Major thumbs up! Good job, man! Decades ago, the band I played guitar with, had on our playlist, the Rolling Stones arrangement of Don Covay's "Mercy Mercy". I listened carefully to your bass, and you had nailed Bill Wyman's bass lines down!! To me, the Stones arrangement of "Mercy Mercy" is THE bada$$ arrangement!! 👍

Nice work!!! The Rolling Stones covered the song on their EP, Five by Five and second U.S. album 12 X 5 in 1964. Besides the band members it featured Ian Stewart (aka the 6th Stone) on piano. In October 1964, they performed the song as part of their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. They played it on a regular basis on their tours in 1964 and 1965. In 1964 the Stones opened their famed TAMI Show with the song. After more than a decade they performed the song again at the Knebworth Fair on August 21, 1976. It was also included on the 1977 live album Love You Live, from the El Mocambo club gig in Toronto.

in their early days ENTWISTLE frequently played this song with a pick (he said back then he switched back and forth between pick and fingers pretty much randomly until the 80's when he went all fingers) and so i always wondered what he used on the original recording. the SMOTHERS BROS. appearance was lip synched so not a good example.
@robgray1999Ай бұрын
I believe he used a pick on the recording on a Fender bass with flatwound strings. He wanted to use a Danelectro with roundwound strings but kept snapping them
@NoirL.A.Ай бұрын
@@robgray1999 i always heard it was a danelectro longhorn but i never heard pick or fingers. either way you could be right.

Must admit I like both and prefer a Hofner 500/2 Club bass for playing live due to the weight and it also tends to have a punchier tone in a live mix than the Ric
