    You are tremendously great! Please, never stop. Your videos are great. Play the bass lines the same way as the original track! That's fucking speculative! It serves a lot to study and, also, to see how it was originally recorded. Really thank you very much. Go on and never stop being absolutely wonderful with the music. Greetings from Argentina!

    My God, this tone is KILLER! I have a 4001v63 and really want to replicate this tone of yours. If you remember, what are the settings of the knobs? Also, I read the previous comment and notice that you connect your bass directly to an interface. Do you use any kind of amp simulation and compression in the DAW? Cheers mate!

    You may have literally just sold a Ric 4003. So often this is exactly the tone I'm looking for. Thanks for sharing!! To sum it up - you're using DHS flats, with a pick. Straight to interface with both pickups on and push/ pull knob set to vintage. Correct? And are you using anything to mute the strings? Sorry so many questions. I'm a guitarist - not a bassist. So any chance I get to ask questions I ask!! Thanks again. (Just subscribed, also)

    K W Great! Yes that's all correct. I'm using the inbuilt muting system on the bridge also to mute the strings. Thanks

    Nice. I have a question. I know yours using the “vintage tone selector” here, but listening to Wings Over America or the rockshow dvd… do you think Paula bass had the capacitor removed from the circuit? (Effectively what would be the vintage tone selector off).

  • @robgray1999

    @robgray1999

    2 жыл бұрын

    Apparently Paul’s bridge pickup was broken for years so he could only use the neck pickup until it was replaced some time in the 70s. Not sure about the capacitor

    Fantastic! I've got a 4003 bass with flats as well. Couple quick questions if I may. Which pickup are you using and is the push/pull knob up in the vintage mode or not? Is this recording direct or with an amp? Asking to try to cop a similar sound. Thanks!

    Rock And/Or Roll Hi, thanks for the comment. I generally use both pick ups with the vintage tone on. This was recorded using an audio interface rather than an amp.

    Very good, but to match the sound exactly, you need to use Thomastik-Infield Jazz Flats. They last forever (8 years so far on my 35yo 4003s). And make sure you have your mutes dialed up, which sounds like you do.

  • @robgray1999

    @robgray1999

    Joe Sasser Thanks. I have Thomastiks on my fender bass so I decided to go for a different brand for this bass. McCartney would have used Optima strings which came as stock on old Rickenbackers, so I assume that would be an even more accurate tone

  • @bassmanluke

    @bassmanluke

    Paul never used those foam mutes for wings. All in the palm. And as Rob said Paul would have used maxima/optima strings. Probably closest today is Pyramid 640/1 or the ( GHS string used in this video. Thomastiks don’t do the same tone, too floppy

    Must admit I like both and prefer a Hofner 500/2 Club bass for playing live due to the weight and it also tends to have a punchier tone in a live mix than the Ric
