How do you know ? Do you know how big the galaxy is, do you know about the planets we can’t see ? Where does the universe end ? You speak like you’re so sure, to think we are the only planet to have life is ludicrous

Yeah once a man wanted to patent an automobile that used water and got over one hundred miles pr gallon and he barely lived for one year. Once GE inserted mox fuel rods into a nuclear reactor despite official restrictions on mox fuel and now the entire pacific ocean is contaminated. There’s absolutely Nothing power companies would not do for more of your money.

I would say that calling selling of Alaska a mistake from Russian perspective is not that obvious. Some context is missing. For example, at the time Russian settlers had a very big problem with indigenous population. That conflict was bloody and Indians were actively supported by French (Canada). At the same time the settlements were note self-sufficient and the logistics was long, hard and way to expensive. So, at the time from Russia perspective it was too demanding, there were more pressing matters and there was a risk that it would be lost anyway. Selling something that you are not ready to fully support and likely to lose might actually seem like not that bad of an idea. I’m not a professional historian so this opinion is open for debate.

I laughed my ass off when the bald dude is promoting a hair growth product but it is absolutely genius. The gentleman speaking as the host talks about how his hair journey is over and using expressions like that bald dude on the Internet just makes me laugh so much. What a brilliant advertisement. Normally I hate ads with a passion and do everything to skip them 99% of the time, but this definitely represents one of those rare one percent occasions. I hope the announcer always promotes the hair growth products because I absolutely love the way he does it. The opposite and I’m so freaking I have to shave my head & some areas of my body every month because I’m like a gorilla 🦍.

1- again, the way you cook your voice into the basement at the end of a statement is akin to a moronic socal braindead valley girl. Truly annoying. 2- in line with #1, IT'S NOT MEEEEETHANE.. It's "meth-ayne". This is how it's pronounced. The english language has a very specific rule about when to elongate the vowels. Example: 'eta' would bee "ee-tuh" because vowel-cons-vowel rule. But 'etha' doesn't follow that rule, so it's "eh-th". Also in methane, the 'ane' at the end DOES follow this rule, which is why It's 'ayne' and not 'Anne'. Get your English right and stop trying to sound like you're some posh witty knowitall. "Look at me and my English accent acting like i know everything". Ignorance, and true irony.

Without rail connections (not possible) or a warm water Pacific port Alaska was next to worthless to Russia. The only countries that were viable were Great Britain, USA or possibly Japan. Russia made the best choice available at the time.

Here's a significant factoid on the sale of Alaska. In the late 1980s, a search at the US National Archives discovered TWO different documents for the sale of Alaska. The original, and a doctored version. The original was for the sale of an offshore trading company, and all rights to conduct trade with the Alaskan peoples. It stated that Russia had never managed to make any inroads on the mainland, as the Natives kept repelling all efforts at establishing colonies. It made no claims to owning any land in what is now called Alaska. Now, this was not exactly the sort of persuasive document needed to sway the US Congress, so the bill of sale was 'edited'. And the edited version is what was presented, and eventually approved. When this extremely uncomfortable and inconvenient discovery was made public, the US government and its disinformation wing (of course) responded with denials followed by a deafening silence. For the following decade or so, there was an absolute media blackout on ANY news regarding Naive Alaskans. Because you know, making pariahs out of entire peoples for stirring up uncomfortable facts, or for demanding restitution is the go-to response for any modern day 'civilized' nation.

I lived in the US for a few years back in the early 2000s. MULTIPLE times Americans asked me why Russia wouldn't accept the return of Alaska after the lease expired. There was no lease, it was an outright sale. It was called "Seward's Folly" because Alaska is empty of anything useful. Yeah, America regrets it. OTOH, international politics would probably improve if Russia had territory in North America again. Rump is currently saying that Russia leasing Alaska to America was a mistake and that it wasn't completed properly or justly. Therefore, Alaska still belongs to Russia. And that the US needs to get back the trillions of dollars in lease payments we made.

I don’t get the point of comparing the Aztecs and Incans to a university in Europe. Both, the Aztecs and Inca were late comers to already established civilizations that had education systems already in place. The Aztecs stumbled into the valley of Mexico from present day New Mexico and Arizona. When they arrived they found themselves surrounded by well established civilizations like the Texcocoans, and Tlacopan, who were said to be the descendants of the Toltecs who are believed to there as early as 640 AD.

What people often forget is it’s not just space but also time. The universe is 12 billion years old. Our star didn’t even exist when it first cooled enough to be habitable. Entire civilizations could have evolved expanded, and eventually even wipes out without a trace. If it happened 3 billion years ago supernova and other astronomical phenomena or even just the expansion of space would have obfuscated or annihilated any real evidence of their existence.

Russia actually needed cash at the time, and just like the Americans called it Steward's Folly, St. Petersburg considered Alaska completely worthless. The money they got from the sale went right into much needed infrastructure projects.

People are so soft. You can tell that we as a people haven't experienced a real war for a long time. When you're battling evil, it's not all puppies and rainbows. Sometimes, you have to do what needs to be done because your enemy won't hesitate. Also, I'm not sure why we are required to take prisoners. The enemy is the enemy, armed or not, you put them down. So pathetic to listen to soft moronic people complaining about these "war crimes" while enjoying the freedom the actions of the allies brought them. War is war. People need to stop with the bleeding hesrt nonsense and toughen the hell up.
