    Yeah, I find the same problem when there is a lot of traffic. It just keeps the same speed when trying to merge or change lanes rather than speed up or slow down, so I always take over.

  • @choongta
    @choongtaКүн бұрын

    FSD should either speed up or slow down if it knew a merge is pending. If it did know, then maybe it didn't calculate the speed of the oncoming car. All in all, FSD might still need another decade to learn these basics.

    More notes about merging and other lane change behavior, with 12.3.4 and 12.3.6. 1) I have found it important to have my foot ready to accelerate when merging back into the travel lane after passing a car, in case the car starts merging back too close to the passed vehicle. This usually happens when there is a vehicle close behind me in the passing lane. 2) Ego seems to be turning into exit lanes pretty quickly, but often fails to signal (for instance exiting I-459 N, exiting to I-280 in Alabama.) 3) Ego turns several feet later than I would when exiting the highway from a non-exit-only lane to an exit, to the degree that I worry if it is going to turn even though it is signalling. I generally just take over to make a gentler exiting turn. 4) When merging, I don't mess around. At the very least I stay ready to accelerate or brake, and if there is any traffic around, even a lane or two over, I'll take over and merge on my own. 5) There are several places on the interstates where I typically drive which require moving across multiple lanes to reach travel lanes after an interchange. Too often, FSD will merge ok, then just sit in an intermediate lane, even with me turning on the signal to continue over. So once again, I cancel out and move over manually. I remember, maybe from my Drivers Ed class in the early 1970s, that making too many lane changes too close together can lead to a wreckless driving ticket, so maybe FSD is biased to limit the number of lane changes it will make in a short time, but I don't think that can apply in a situation where if you don't make those lane changes quickly enough you can't safely reach the travel lanes on the road you wish to be on.

    23:30 "Chin up" might be a problem with my bifocals. besides, it sounds/looks uncomfortable. It won't matter much to me, as I expect to be driving mostly "hands on" (well thumb and forefinger on, at least) until FSD reaches full level 3, anyway.

    Speaking of that merde... I mean merge, again... I've noticed that many drivers tend to pace the cars around them, I've even caught myself doing it if I'm not paying attention to the driving. I don't know why, but assume it is some sort of normal human behavior. It doesn't require any malice on the part of the other driver to have boxed you in like that, it may have been intentional, but I think it more likely to have been lack of attention, is all. Having said that, I've known drivers who somehow think it is their duty to prevent cars from merging into their lane, but this one didn't have that vibe, at least not from the video.

    negative on the 12V should be disconnected prior disconnecting the High Voltage not the opposite. Also service mode could be used and most important, wait that the heating is completely off, then power off using the screen then 12V off, High Voltage off. Replace the battery, then high voltage reconnect and last 12V reconnect. If it is a model 3 with heat pump the procedure is different. Always consult the official service manual

    When it comes to the merging incident I believe the other driver was at fault. Everyone knows you supposed to go over and give the oncoming car the right away. That driver was being a jerk. it would not have mattered if you try to merge early he still wouldn't have went over to let you merge safely

    I may be wrong but the lane that is losing its lane is suppose to yield. Therefore it was Tesla's fault, imo. And my FSD 12.3.6 does too many of random and repeating mistakes for me to use the FSD!

    Good content, and I appreciate you showing the flaw. Fsd and you made the mistake. Sure, it would have been courteous for him to move over, but it wasn't an obligation. A fully attentive driver would have seen that coming and either sped up or slowed down to get in the lane. I don't think it's fair to say it was both your mistake.

    As a “SUPERVISOR”, I occasionally supervise by using my indicator or press the accelerator to avoid those merging issues. Question: if I become incapacitated I know the car will activate flashers and come to a stop but will the car move to the shoulder or stop on the highway? Anybody ever record a test of this situation?

  • @Dave_Outside
    @Dave_Outside2 күн бұрын

    Mine frequently does the same thing. Try to accelerate hard like it wants to go around the car the right hand side, even though the lane is ending. Just some problem with the software. Once you know, that’s what it does I just take over when I’m going to merge.

    Sorry I’m playing with you. 😜 I know what you’re saying, but it’s still crazy to me. V11 was the “one stack to rule them all”. It was the long awaited change. Suddenly v12 went backwards with that. I’ll never quite understand it.

  • @mthuhn
    @mthuhn2 күн бұрын

    @@techgeektesla It went backwards because unlike v11 v12 has no hard coded rules it is just videos of the car doing the right thing that is why you should take over and do the right thing because I believe that when you press the camera button they have to take the time and build from scratch and then drive the car doing the right thing where if you take over than they have something to work with and they can just smooth it out. But I can't confirm this but it make sense to me

    I think sometimes when Elon says something that others conclude as a lie, they should ask themselves how might he have been speaking the truth to the best of his knowledge at the time of the statement. In this case, I think that you and other critics may not have thought it through but in your defense I have to say that Elon often doesn’t clarify his statements. When you say that his claim of a 5-10 times improvement, what actually might prove him right when you look at what happened to the previous version, 12.3. When it first came out it had lots of improvements needed. By the time it got to 12.3.6 it was much improved over its initial release. In the same way when you compare 12.3.6 to 12.4.1, I don’t think that is a fair comparison because you have not waited for the refinements of 12.4.2, 12.4.3, … maybe 12.4.6 and then pronounce judgement and if it falls short of 5-10x better you can reasonably conclude that Elon’s estimate was wrong but don’t assume it was a lie. I did enjoy your video and appreciate your insights in general!

    28:13 _is _*_this version_*_ 5 to 10 times better in terms of miles per intervention? No, definitely not_ _I'm very disappointed that Elon lied another lie_ Two issues. First, it's not *this version* (v12.4.1) Elon claimed would be 5X to 10X better in terms of miles per intervention, it's v12.4; so Tesla has v12.4.2, ... , v12.4.6(?) to make good on this prediction. Second, a lie is a *deliberate* misstatement. Unless you know that Elon was aware that this prediction was false when he made it-and I don't see how you could-and even if the final version doesn't achieve the predicted improvement, it's still not a lie; but at worst a prediction that turned out to be incorrect. Please don't be so ready to make accusations you can't support. Thank you!

    Cool video. If I can suggest a few things. If you do a commentary outside of the ride, just do it while you show fsd driving. It is long enough, not to add additional video material. Putting words like fsd, tesla, betatester, 12.4.1 would improve the number of people watching. And yes, highways stack is old and it will be like that till 12.5 I think. So it is easier to indicate for Tesla to change the lane sooner before merging.
