HOMESTEAD HACKS & HENS

This is David at Homestead Hacks & Hens , I have another KZread channel called Barnyard Bees which has over 200000 subscribers. I wanted to create a channel that focuses mostly on chickens and homesteading, farming, and some on beekeeping. I just bought an 89' Troy built horse for $100, from an estate sale, that looks similar to yours. It's in great condition and will turn over but not stay cranked. I can't wait to get it running. They don't make things of quality anymore. That's why I still use a 20-year-old Toro zero radius to mow my lawn.

Game chickens are, by nature, territorial, and tend to stay within sight of their roost. But this also means that game roosters will fight for their territory. More domesticated chickens have lost much of this territorial nature, along with their broodiness. So, game chickens are naturally the best 'yard' chickens.

Hey David, have you had any black hens attacked by hawks? I heard hawks hate crows and think black chickens are crows and won't attack because of that. Curious of your experience since yours are mostly black. Thanks.

Happy New Year! We free range our chickens most days but if our dog starts barking too much we keep them in. This dog warns us when animals are near, and so far haven't lost any for a few years now, touch wood.

My mum had 3 chickens disappear overnight to a suspected fox or feral dog. Found one of their bloodied bodies. The remaining chickens now fly up into a mango tree to roost and refuses to go back to the coop (pretty smart). Looking for game birds now who have a bit of a stronger survival instinct . Wyandotte chicks won't even eat small caterpillars; they'll never be good pest eaters

I have 38 chickens here on my farm down here in South Alabama. I have six blue laced red wyandottes that gobble up everything in their path. I've even seen them catch butterflies out of the air. Beetles, spiders, ladybugs, crickets, grasshoppers, grubs, worms, caterpillars, june bugs, etc. They gobble up everything. I free range my chickens with 12 guineas. When I free range them, my 3 German shepherds watch over them. I've been around chickens, goats, cows, horses, turkeys, quail, peacocks, guineas, and hogs since I came into this world. I was raised on a farm, and now have my own farm. I'll be 43 years old on Nov. 22nd. I was born on Thanksgiving 1979. I know a thing or two about chickens and livestock.

My chickens are kept in a coop where chickens belong! But my neighbors seem to think that it’s OK to free range theirs all over the neighborhood. After complaining that they are tearing up my flower beds with no response numerous times, I just let the dogs out! I’ve cried too many tears to care about a 2 dollar chicken that is meant for food! And I’ve spent way more on my landscaping too let chickens free range in my yard!

ALOT of plants.... and these stupid chickens are tearing EVERYTHING up! I won't even get a kitten BECAUSE they tear up flower beds... so I'm pretty aggravated. Just put new mulch out, and they've kicked it out into the yard... costing me alot of money and insane amount of time
