The Morgan Library & Museum

The Morgan Library & Museum

A museum and independent research library located in the heart of New York City, the Morgan Library & Museum began as the personal library of financier, collector, and cultural benefactor Pierpont Morgan. Today, beautiful, light-filled spaces, designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano, connect three centuries of landmark Morgan architecture, offering visitors an intimate and engaging encounter with the great span of artistic achievement.

The Morgan Library & Museum provides visitors with an unforgettable experience in midtown Manhattan. Only at the Morgan can you come face to face with original manuscripts by Mozart and Beethoven, drawings by great masters such as Rembrandt and Rubens to contemporary artists like George Condo and Wangechi Mutu, unmatched medieval and Renaissance illuminated texts, a Gutenberg Bible, literary items from seminal writers such as Twain and Hemingway, and evocative Ancient Western Asian carvings more than two thousand years old.

Your slower, calmer pace of life in this video was rudely punctuated by an office ad showing how you can get x.y.z. done much faster with some bot aid or other. It was high tech, people under pressure, deadlines looming etc. So far removed from where I'd been just moments before it was like a shock to the system. But that's the world of many; pills for their blood pressure & heart attacks on their horizon. Certainly no time in their lives to write letters. I need to get back to it though. You keep letters; well I do and I always appreciate the trouble someone took to do so; time to redress the balance.... Thank you, Rajiv.

Peter Hujar was a true artist. His photography captured the outsiders, the outlaws and he was not going to sell out. I am so glad he is finally gaining some recognition. His work certainly matters to me. ❤

What makes him very distiguishable? I like his paintings but what makes the very special, and different to other artists?

Tintoretto did use clay and wax models for his drawings, it is obvious. That does not mean he did not draw from life. It is not a question of neither, but both.

perhaps the most telling quote is " He has novel ideas I know and he's a jarry queer fish be- times, I grant you, and cantanberous, the poisoner of his word, but lice and all and semicoloured stainedglasses, I'm enormously full of that foreigner, I'll say I am ! ", Joyce admitting he was full of that foreigner. (Page 463)

It pisses me off he was not appreciated in his own lifetime. He got the most dreadful reviews for his book. He was extremely talented and captured those that were "outside" society and his photos of animals esp the cows are magnificent. He was so poor. He was the real deal.

I am really impressed by these Morgan L&M videos … they are oriented to show the artist craftsmanship not just the final perfect job … is inspirational and educational at the same time … usually the artist covered are less well known which is refreshing …

Wow wow wow wow … the most exciting pure artist ever … his extraordinary use of the original palette is breathtaking … his drawing natural skill is beyond use of line … is more volumetric and multidimensional … the use of values is dynamic … in my humble opinion Holbein and Botticelli were the inventors of the modern idea of the human image in the collective mind … kudos for this marvelous exposition … is a gift for the Humanity
