Ferdinand Hodler and Mark Rothko: A Passion for the Italian RenaissanceNiklaus Manuel Güdel

Niklaus Güdel, Director of the Ferdinand Hodler Institute, Geneva, proposes a comparison between Ferdinand Hodler and Mark Rothko based on their common interest in the Italian Renaissance. Preoccupied with color, death, and the place of the human body in nature, both artists found inspiration in Italian painting, notably the art of Giotto and Fra Angelico. This lecture is supported by the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York in conjunction with the exhibition Ferdinand Hodler: Drawings-Selections from the Musée Jenisch Vevey.
Held Thursday, September 14, 2023.
