Learn and grow, always. Join me as I continue to develop empathy for others by experiencing life in books through different characters' perspectives.
I am the creator of #Respawnathon, a video game related readathon and the #ShelfMastery video series.
Books that are romcoms, take place in NYC, navigate the dreamscape, with main characters that are artists, Cuban, overweight, and/or struggle with anxiety, are likely to immediately capture my attention.
I’m passionate about reading. I look forward to passing that on to others whether they read middle grade, young adult, new adult or beyond. Discussing what we’ve read helps us exchange ideas and potentially shift rigid mindsets. There are so many unique worlds and perspectives to explore in books. I hope you’ll join me in discovering them.

A riveting look at the tremendous promise and inherent risks of the use of psychedelics in mental health treatment through the lens of a New York Times reporter whose journalistic exploration of this emerging field began with a personal crisis. When he signed up for a psychedelic retreat run by a mysterious Argentine woman deep in Brazil’s rainforest in early 2018, Ernesto Londoño, a veteran New York Times journalist, was so depressed he had come close to jumping off his terrace weeks earlier. His nine-day visit to Spirit Vine Ayahuasca Retreat Center included four nighttime ceremonies during which participants imbibed a vomit-inducing plant-based brew that contained DMT, a powerful mind-altering compound. The ayahuasca trips provided Londoño an instant reprieve from his depression and became the genesis of a personal transformation that anchors this sweeping journalistic exploration of the booming field of medicinal psychedelics. Londoño introduces readers to a dazzling array of psychedelic enthusiasts who are upending our understanding of trauma and healing. They include Indigenous elders who regard psychedelics as portals to the spirit world; religious leaders who use mind-bending substances as sacraments; war veterans suffering from PTSD who credit psychedelics with changing their lives; and clinicians trying to resurrect a promising field of medicine hastily abandoned in the 1970s as the United States declared a War on Drugs. Londoño’s riveting personal narrative pulls the reader through a deeply researched and brilliantly reported account of a game-changing industry on the rise. Trippy is the definitive book on psychedelics and mental health today, and Londoño’s in-depth and nuanced look at this shifting landscape will be pivotal in guiding policymakers and readers as they make sense of the perils, limitations, and promises of turning to psychedelics in the pursuit of healing.
Amazing
Yes
How can I read those books online
Good discussion
I also wanted more of the influencer mom conflict and less of the... Romance. But, I think the appearance is based on Mothman, a cryptid in the... Mid Atlantic??? Northeast??? Which is not the same as an actual moth. That being said I have no idea if Mothman has feathers or not.
Lol, if I had just kept watching I would have heard that Ali has alllll the Mothman information
She really did! She was the perfect guest host for this book. I learned so much!
Great choice! And I went into B&N today...not worth it! Ugh. Happy holidays and best wishes! Xx
Happy holidays and happy new year!
Hey is there a chance theres a product like that of bookbeau for europe? Also, loved your vid!
Sorry! Just now seeing your comment. Unfortunately, I don't know of any specific vendors I can recommend. You might be able to find some on the European Amazon website. Try searching "book sleeves" - wish I could be more helpful.
Definitely team manuscript all the way. Verity is a total psycho and that was her last card to play.
sounds boring af tbh. shes writing a book, and there's spicy sex and abuse? damn, YAWN, sounds like everyone's life.
love your hair...pretty btw.
Thank you! It feels like it took forever to grow out the pink for the gray... but here we are. lol
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves animals.
Good thing i listened to this video, i dont remember anything but thats probably enough to wing my class thing, never gonna read trash books ever, thanks internet
Such a cute review. Are you back to youtube?
Aw 🫀
This was delightful.
Thank you! I have a lot of fun with these types of videos.
Hoover needs to release a book from Crew’s point of view!
👀 Oh man. I can’t even imagine. That could be super creepy.
Just subscribed to your channel. I loved the review as I just picked this from the library. I hope to enjoy it. Thanks.
Awesome! Welcome! The characters are messy but I grew pretty attached to them. Let me know what you think of it.
My books often get damaged from being in my bag. I hope this works. 🙏🏿
I'm worried that the corners of the covers will slightly bend in the sleeve. Had any problems with that?
I haven’t really had that issue. I like to get bigger book sleeves and prefer the ones that can be buttoned or zipped at the top. Using a bigger sleeve helps avoid any wrestling you might need to do to get the book in or out.
@@LibriLabra thank you!
I have always wanted to be a professional student. I'd take getting paid to learn. I enjoyed this book, but I have not yet read the sequels.
Have you read any of Okorafor's other works?
@@LibriLabra I have. I started with her Book of Phoenix, and then Who Fears Death. I think the most recent work I've read by her was Remote Control. I definitely like her writing.
Do they have a horror paperback section?
It's been a while since I've been there and I don't purchase horror often, but I can't image them not having a horror paperback section. I'd try giving them a call before heading over there or you can also try checking their website.
@@LibriLabra Thanks. I e-mailed them. They have what I am looking for.
I am dying to read Girl Stop Apologizing. OMG I LOVED VC Andrews books growing up! We didn't have YA when I was a tween/teen so that's what we read - I can't believe my parents let us read those books when we were like 13 or 14 lol
I may revisit Girl Stop Apologizing soon. I've been wanting to annotate it. Definitely some good nuggets in there.
Love this tag! I think you could totally use YA books for this - I'm over 30 (40) and love YA! YES - the first book that came to mind for the first question was Evelyn Hugo - I love that book sooooo much! I'm reading Carrie Soto now!
Oh nice! How are you liking Carrie Soto?
@@LibriLabra I LOVE it so far! I was hoping for a little more of the Brandon backstory because I LOVED Malibu Rising, but it's actually nice that the focus is more on Carrie and her own career. I'm only a casual tennis player/watcher, so I'm learning a lot about the sport!
oh good, Tom brought up the Toll--I was hoping he didn't get left out of the discussion! He was interesting... the fork. LOL. Wait--a fork! It's all Tonist propaganda! lol
oh...and his PR handler getting his desserts in the end...another damning judgment on our system, I think on the social media side. Hmm...
i was recently looking up tropes for a tag and saw 'consciousness-uploading' as an SFF trope, and I was like, what? There's more than Memory Called Empire that does that? Haven't seen Westworld, and totalll missed this one! D'oh. :D
interesting that Tom saw gender in the commentaries--i read them as neutral/male posturing bc of the content, which perhaps is not fair 🤣
The first commentator (to me) was an older, establishment male. The rebuttal commentator seemed younger/reflected new research so I thought of "her" as the most opposite voice I could think of to the first commentator.
Another let-down was the Texas rescue, like..... no. I knew something had to happen but...holy deus ex machina, Batman.
Q. Why wasn't Anastasia known as...a last name? Just realized that... yeah, Faraday was disappointing in this book for me.
My guess is when you get famous enough, one name suffices. Though interestingly in her case, she was known by her first name, not her last name. (And let's face it, Anastasia's got enough syllables as it is.)
@@tombrennan1842 I was thinking it was also because her family was famous and using her first name distinguishes her from the rest of the family?
@@tombrennan1842 That's as may be, but there's a common practice of characters calling women by first names, men by last names, and it tends to have a respect value attached to it, which is why this one makes me wary.
@@MargaretPinard Agreed. Though Rowan was known by his first scythe name too. Was it an age thing?
@@tombrennan1842 Rowan never got to do take a scythe name, so his rogue status and self-appointed single name really puts him out of bounds, I should think.
Goddard DID break the rules, but he SAID he didn't so he was redefining reality before he ever got to redefining the word 'bias' --spectacular political parallel there. But yes, Desirai, throwing the book against the wall was a thing.
The inserted "all Rejoice" pages followed by commentary, and then commentary ON that commentary?? Felt too biblically real, lol, but then that ended up being the point! I got played.
Have you read The Handmaid's Tale?
@@tombrennan1842 I think I did, but then memories were supplanted by episodes and teasers of the TV series...
"She WAS weird" lol Yeah, Rand and the possible authorial commentary on the people who thought they could remain close to the power-hungry idiot and protect us from his worst excesses.....and maybe comparing Rand to Purity?? I don't know that Shusterman really paints female characters all that nuanced... :/
I'm back! Just finished this one! I would say 1 and 2 were really excellent for the genre, and the third was slightly less so. #initialimpressions
Definitely team manuscript…. I have to be otherwise it’s just too awful😩 best book I’ve ever read!
Thanks for the in depth analysis.
Thanks for watching!
The psychomachia was a good tie in to reality. If you read Klavans memoir you can see how his life influenced this book and the characters in it.
@17Because they were all in on it together. The twist was good cause it was set up that he really was going to jail but then he didn’t. He’s not off Scott free he literally has to be on the run. The point of not remembering the name was that it was his way of letting her know he wants her and puts himself above her current partner. But at the end he admits that he was being an ass. He showed up at his childhood loves house and realizes he shouldn’t have. They were both different people. You guys should have an outline when doing these reviews so you don’t sound incoherent.
I just purchased the two books from Amazon, great review ☺️
As I was getting ready to reply to your comment my nightly alarm went off with the message saying “Girl, wash your face” lol I’m also excited to look back and realize I’ve been soda free for 3 years now. I hope these books are as inspiring/motivating for you as they were for me.
@@LibriLabra Good morning, Amazon delivered the next day. I can’t wait to start reading on my off day with a cup of coffee. I’m proud of you for not drinking pop ☺️. That’s awesome.
I am team manuscript.I will just say the scar on Chastin's face...I have read the book last weekend and like you, could not stop reading 😱
I was glued to the pages. I hope she write more books like this.
@@LibriLabra I was glued too, just did not like those sex scenes,I think they were unnecessary.
okay like i was quite unsettled at first but lets be honest, what kind of mother would want to kill her children? why would she be more towards intimacy rather than loving her children? then i stepped back and thought of all the manuscripts and realized that she forgot the detail out the abortion bit. what made her write about that? there was no explanation on that bit. also given that she has kept jeremy in dark for 6 long years, pretending for another few months wouldn't be a big task either. but here comes the question: why did jeremy react so much and killed his wife after he read the manuscript? hes read it before so why is he acting like he has never read it before. now for me, i might be taking a huge turn but i think it was ALL planned by jeremy. idk how tho but it doesnt add up to how jeremy would kill his wife even though he has read the manuscript before. it seems that he's the bad one here and its just his way of trapping girls. its just an opinion and feel free to disagree.
It's in Fern Park
Great video. Amazing recommendation. This was just what I was looking for. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I've heard GOOD things about this book!!! The way you're starting makes me think you didn't like it?!? :P
No! I loved it and gave it 5 stars. In our book club the person that nominates the book chosen leads the discussion. My husband and I talk to each other about upcoming book selections often. Sometimes we forget who chose what and which of us is leading the discussion.
+TBR we are catching up on our videos and comments today! Happy Bookish Monday Friends

Hello! Hope you're doing well!
This series made me laugh. It was funny, cute, romantic, and heartwarming. It reminds me of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.
Happy to hear you enjoyed the series! I really enjoyed Fangirl too. I’m hoping to find more books like them. Do you have any other recommendations?
Colleen said in an interview that she believes Verity is evil when she was asked if the letter was real/true! My thoughts exactly and this book destroyed my brain in a great way lol
I honestly love Mal, i don't get what all the hate is about
I haven't been able to figure it out either. lol
