  People don't actually do eye contact. It's part of the standard advice given to kids struggling with social skills, but it's a lie (as is so much standard social skills advice). If you actually look at people's eyes in a sustained way, they'll find you offputting. When you're trying to make eye contact with someone and you're close enough that they can tell the difference, it's better to move your gaze around their face, with an emphasis on the upper half of the face.

  I'm not sure I agree with you about the effect of "poor" articulation. I find that excessively clear articulation makes speakers sound hostile, whereas relaxing the effort a bit makes the speech more conversational rather than lazier.

Yeah it's not like Chicago has a world renowned Shedd Aquarium, one of the best in the world, or the art institute with full on masterpieces' inside - not to mention the amazing food options we have from people all over the world.
