Elise Roth, Vocalist

Elise Roth, Vocalist

Vocalist Elise Roth grew up in London, listening to recordings of the Andrews Sisters, Artie Shaw, and Glenn Miller, never imagining that she'd come to be known as the “poster girl” for the vintage music and dance scene in New England. Thanks to her timeless look and lithe vocals, she is setting the standard among performers of Big Band and swing music.
Like many of her jazz forebears, Ms. Roth trained in the classical tradition and received her Masters in Music from New England Conservatory. A versatile vocalist who delights in performing art song and opera, it is truly in jazz where Elise has found the intersection of her passion for music, living history, and performance. Audiences who have seen her perform know that every detail is pitch-perfect, and her classic presentation is second only to her repertoire of music ranging from the 1920s Jazz Age through the 1950s.

I got a tattoo of a bust of Aphrodite with the line 'I, the East. She, the sunlight' written under it <3

I listen to this every day and I love it SO MUCH. And I JUST NOTICED the lyric “I the east and she the sunlight” which made me think of Romeo and Juliet. “But soft what light through yonder window breaks It is the east and Juliet is the sun. “ Idk if this was an intentional reference but it fits with the theme of the song incredibly well. Forbidden love and such. IDK I JUST NEEDED TO BLAB ABOUT IT RAHHHH

apparently this sculpture is The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa by Bernini to represent her... (um- heavenly nut) by an angel thus granting her her sainthood. It was condemned for being too physical and "indecent" and honestly its serving c*nt.

I hope you find an LGBT affirming church, some churches do fully embrace LGBT, and offer same sex marriage.

I love how you kept the theme of the original, about how some churches reject gay people, but brought in ancient lyrics. And you made it lesbian (the original was gay).

this is unironically the most incredible cover. I was expecting some humorous silly cover. This is the just pure art on every level. The lyrical genius is beyond anything I would have expected. The musical cover and production are top notch. The vocalist brings it all together and elevates it all... I am blown away...

I clicked on this song expecting a meme. Instead, I was blessed with a deeply passionate, spiritual experience. My jaw is permanently unhinged as I stare, mystified, lost in such beautiful music. These lyrics are poetry & the instrumental stroked my heart until I reached exquisite bliss. I've not yet known such ecstasy. I feel like I just lost my virginity.
