    I want to say, I know people are afraid of temperamental bees, and I understand why. But if I was a beekeeper, I'd like to have a colony or two with a little bit of feistiness, because as you said, they will defend their hive.

  • @JeffHorchoff

    I am delighted to hear you understand my point. To often the quality of "gentleness" is prized in a bee hive, I for my part appreciate when bees are defensive as this genetic trait will be to their advantage.

    Tell me why would you destroy such a piece of nature art?

  • @JeffHorchoff
    @JeffHorchoff23 сағат бұрын

    The sad truth is open air colonies like this one do not last more than a year or 2 due to the elements of nature, heat, rain, cold, wind, and the constant threat of attack by birds and animals. Very often, their mass is their own downfall. Particularly when heat and wind strike, often sections of the hive fall away and hit the ground due to the fact of the weight of the comb. I do agree that the hive is a natural work of art and as such is beautiful to behold, but because the land owners use this pasture as one of the main locations to graze their cattle, their concerns for their cows prompted the removal and relocation of this hive.I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 14 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. Dumb question, but I'm not a beekeeper so I can ask those lol. When there's that many cappings, how do you prevent larvae from hatching? I know smaller processing loads I've watched, the people have frozen them over night etc?

  • @JeffHorchoff
    @JeffHorchoff4 күн бұрын

    That's actually a very good question and one that a seasoned beekeeper may not even consider. In the past I have actually had beetle larvae hatch out from the cappings if I allow the cappings to stay in the drums for to long, over 2 weeks. But in fact, it matters not if they do hatch as they are nowhere near the honey which is several inches below them, they only stay on the top of the cappings. Now, I make sure I get the job done within a week after processing insuring that does not happen. Thanks for watching. God's peace David. Mr. Ed

    what if you had rubber floor mats under where you drip honey on the floor. then take them outside and hose them after the bees cleaned up the honey. just my observation. 2 cents worth. Harper Valley BTA (bee training Apiary) Ohio

  • @JeffHorchoff
    @JeffHorchoff4 күн бұрын

    The little bit of honey that does wind up on the floor is so insignificant that mats really would not help. Also, it's easier to wash the concrete than a rubber mat, and the concrete is already paid for. Wishing the Harper Valley BTA the best, God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

    That’s quite the equipment setup! Here’s another bee tidbit: Have you ever noticed bees at work? The buzzing hive, bees zipping around like they’ve got places to be and honey to make. That is exactly what it means to be "busy as a bee." These little guys are the ultimate multitaskers, flitting from flower to flower, collecting nectar, and building honeycombs like experts. Being "busy as a bee" means you are hustling, juggling a bunch of tasks like a pro.
