Charlie was once again fishing, and I can't fault him for not being with me as the trout are really running great right now, while I was on this adventure and and thus, I was the only one there to shoot the video and do the removal. Don't worry, he will be back next week. Thanks for watching. God's peace to all.

    Good morning Mr. Ed, from the lakes region of NH where it's 44 degrees at 6am on Saturday morning. Had the bear tear my compost pile apart day before yesterday... so that did it, my back yard is now electrified. The trick now is to not go sleepwalking and do an accidental fence check⚡😵‍💫⚡🤣 It always amazes me how the bees fill the various spaces with comb. Thanks for bringing all these wonders to us. Since that is within my life time and growing up south of there near Oak Alley and other plantations I always think of old as before the civil war. Alls good that ends well - always nice to find the queen & I wish I was as experienced as you at finding her! Considering you weren't sure if she had gone up behind the brickwork do you ever spray some pesticide or soapy water up there just in case you've left enough behind with a queen to start again? I've had 2 attempts at removing a swarm generator in some old tyres buried under a water tank & although I didn't find the queen I had removed all the comb & didn't think I'd left enough bees behind to support a revival + filled the cavity with old feed sacks & moth balls for the smell hoping to fill the dead space & so not leave it as attractive for another swarm to move in.... but they're still there so will probably have another go in spring.....

  • @JeffHorchoff

    @JeffHorchoff

    Ай бұрын

    I possess no special skills when finding the queen, it's always a grace when I find them. Hence, the "Thank you Jesus!" The only thing I spray is the Honey Bandit, and trust me, NOTHING stays where it was sprayed unless there is a space further back the bees can run to which is what probably what happened with your swarm. Thanks for watching. God's peace Rachel. Mr. Ed

    Jeff, I like the colored walmart rubber bands. 3 colors. Pink is for girl brood. Blue is for boy-brood. And purple is for mixed/other comb! My bees have told me that they really, really appreciate the ADHD color coordination! Haha... BTW, I've always just sucked up the queen into the vac, she does just fine in there.

    Did that last frame with nectar (and soft comb) make it or did it collapse? With the high risk of collapse, I would have put it on the other side of a blank frame for the transport, so it can't collapse onto a brood frame.

    Do you keep the gentle bees in a separate yard to keep track of them for making more queens with those easy going genetics? Or do you keep track of them another way?

  • @JeffHorchoff

    @JeffHorchoff

    Ай бұрын

    I do not. I place all the removals I do in our general yard. That way, the genetics get mixed with all the other hives out there. For me, that is the easiest and best way to do it, and we have over 200 hives right now. In future, why not put the chest on another ladder next to you so you don't have to climb up and down so much?

  • @apveening

    @apveening

    Ай бұрын

    I concur, I can see three advantages to doing something like that (not necessarily a ladder, some other high stand will also do): 1) It is less time consuming 2) There is less wear and tear on your knees 3) It will be easier for the bees to find and settle on the brood, saving you some vacuuming and making sure there are enough bees on the brood

  • @JeffHorchoff

    @JeffHorchoff

    Ай бұрын

    In theory that sounds like a good idea, but in practice it is not. Anytime I work off a ladder it is a dangerous situation. Going up and down a ladder is a lot safer than trying to reach over one ladder to place comb into a chest that is perched on top of another ladder. Still, I appreciate you trying to make my job easier. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. Hi Mr. Ed, thanks for the video. Which thermal camera are you using? How long have you had it and how do you like it? When using the cooler to transport brood comb, are you using any type of pizza box support or anything to prevent pancaking?

    The thermal camera I now use is from Vevor, and you can get it for about $280.00 by using the code VEVORSALE5 and for signing up with Vevor. The camera works great and I have been using it for about 6 months now. It may be something worthwhile looking into. The video link below is a video I made showing it off. When I place the comb in the chest I simply stand them top side down laying them against each other for support and sharing heat. Thanks for watching. God's peace Dan.
