    So on a practical level, considering you did all you could, would you now use the meat, or do you have to dispose of the carcass because she hadn't been slaughtered.?

    Can't wait to make my own cheese! What do you do if you want to age it longer? Also if you leave it out on the counter for 3 days, what do you put it on, and do I cover it with cheese cloth or dish towel or....? Thank you for the advice!!

    I have a Juniper too. I got her (Joseybean) from my daughter’s boyfriend. She’ll be 2 in August. She has the exact same coloring as Juniper and acts just like Juniper does in your video. I’m not sure how valid DNA testing is, but my daughter got me a kit for Christmas last year. Results say she’s 51% Catahoula and 49% Blue Heeler. I wanted to share a photo of her with ya, but I couldn’t figure out how to post it. 🥲

    I have 9 of them. Best dogs on the planet if you can handle them. 😂 Its just hard to explain it, even though you explained them very well ( very very well) i don't think anyone could understand unless you actually spend time with one to truly get it.

    What a great video. I've never heard of these breed, but very interesting. And what a wonderful dog. But like you said earlier, not everyone needs a Catahoula. Someone here in Dayton, Ohio area. Someone posted due to a divorce, the had a pure bred Catahoula free to a good home. And someone posted this link. And said please review this video, before adopting a Catahoula. Hopefully they do. Most people don't realize a high energy, highly intelligent dogs. Need that constant stimulation. Thanks for sharing this :)

    I like that you stressed that this is a 24/7, 365 type of job. Yes, goats are cute, chickens lay "free" eggs, and you won't have to buy meat at the store. But as a person over 65, I see that any day an accident can lay you up for months and all you worked for can disappear. It may be great while you are able, but when older age hits, you need the next generation to take over and not run to experience what you left behind. Or you have to downsize your stock, and then you may not have the income needed to pay taxes. It is tough, not for the dainty.

    Thank you for the lovely videos! And 3 bucks. wow! Would you consider doing a video on managing multiple goats? training? I've recently tripled the size of my herd (i had 5) and I'm struggling with all kinds of behavior issues. from the new ones being scared of me, I cant lead them or get close enough to even clip on a lead, to the more tame ones now rushing the gate at milking time and just general chaos. It also does not help that all my goats are large breeds and strong as trucks. 3 of the scared ones don't know what grain is so I can't even bribe them. lol

  • @YouCanFarm
    @YouCanFarm25 күн бұрын

    Sure, those are great ideas for videos! Training the skittish ones can be hard. Be patient and just sit with them when you have time, and try to figure out what treats they might like - tree branches are usually irresistible!

    my catahoula is on her final stages of life, she is 15 and she is still spunky AF.. all catahoulas are long lived that I have met.. such a good breed of dog.. unique and bad ass.. to smart for humans own good hahah.. do yalls spin a lot when they play? mine do what I call a jump bark spin.. they jump, spin and bark in this one move... laaawl, bonnie blue when she was young was a ninja.. We lived in an area with 1 free roam herd of cattle..when they would come down our road.. there was this one fence post that bonnie blue would NOT let that herd of cows go past.. she would stand out there and stand the herd down, dodge any attempts to charge her.. till the herd turned around.. I have a million stories of her doing some crazy ninja shit in her life lol. The certainly are NOT a first dog person dog.

    Your videos have been very helpful. I recently inherited some property and am trying to not let my anxiety delay my progress. Your videos make keeping goats or sheep more approachable. A lot of people strangely gatekeep homesteading knowledge like you need to be born into it or trained on a farm for a decade first, you are very down to earth and feel like a real person doing her best. Thank you again.

    I’m kicking around the idea of getting sheep and/or goats but just don’t know if I should. I only want them to roam my property to help keep things from growing out of hand. I have both woods and larger grass areas across 12 acres.

    They might require more health maintenance they you are looking to invest, but either or a mix of the two would do a good job of managing your land.
