Building A Pen To Separate Our Bucklings

We have two young goat bucks, and we need to separate them from the rest of the herd before they start breeding any females. We don't want our young doelings to get pregnant just yet, and we want to control any mating with our dairy goat girls. We are able to scrounge up a bunch of fencing materials around the farm, so we put up a pen to house the boys practically for free, except for a lot of our own sweat! We use some woven wire fence, t-posts, aluminum wire, some scrap wood, and some extra polywire to make a secure enclosure for the bucklings to live in from now on.

Fantastic work! Appreciate you showing the realistic picture of what it takes to care for livestock. I know it takes time and effort reusing the welded wire fence as I recently took down a bunch of temporary fencing and extracted the 25 or so tee posts around our chicken run and garden setup here in our urban Pittsburgh neighborhood. (to reuse of course because it’s expensive!). We are going to move to our new 4 acre…weedy, rugged, 160” a year rainforest property located on the most active volcano on Earth. A lot of folks have goats as well as sheep there and I am learning the needs of the livestock that will ultimately fit the property and ourselves.

I have to laugh. The close captions thought your hedge trimmer sound is applause.
