Turning A Skittish Goat Into A Sweet Mama And Milker

My goat Destiny has been wild and untouchable so far, but now she is in the late stages of pregnancy and I need to get her comfortable with me and trained to be a milking dairy goat before she gives birth. I'll cover what I did to win over my skittish goat, and show you what signs to look for when trying to predict when your goat is going into labor. You'll get to meet our newest baby goat at the end, and watch me fumble through my first attempt at milking my new mama goat.

What an amazing video!! We just had two goat babies born on the farm in the last week, two different mommas!! Thanks for keeping it real when it comes to farming, it's not always glamorous lol. I also love your goat house, we have an old trailer that we use for the goats so it reminds me of our set-up. Keep the great content coming ❤

Ever considered putting cameras around your different herds so you could easily check his things are going without walking to their shelters & surrounding grazing areas?? The cost & capabilities of today's video cameras have dramatically improved over the last few years. Live video is now available from trail cameras generally used for hunting....

Yes, I've thought about it. Our animals move daily so not sure how practical it would be, but maybe something to consider in the barns during birthing.

awe, do you hand milk all eight? I hand milk my 3 does, but next year I will have more in milk.. I hope to hand milk all of t hem and have them trained to machine just in case I can't do it.. I love the one on one time, along with the bond that grows when you interact one on one

Yes, I'm actually hand milking 10 now since I added this doe plus one more. I love the relationship it gives me with my goats too.

Hi. I enjoy your videos very much. I was very impressed with your resume and education. I just saw a video from 7 months back where you collected brewer's spent grain. To which animals do you fee the spent grains and how much? I give my sheep about a pound each every day. They like it. Thanks

Thanks! We feed the brewers grain to just about all our animals - pigs, sheep, goats, and all the birds. The pigs get as much as they will eat, but the ruminants get maybe one half to a pound per day.

I feed them a 16% dairy goat feed, alfalfa pellets, and black oil sunflower seeds when they are on the milk stand. They love it!

As the farmer it is my responsibility to have a purpose for every animal born here, before I even breed the parents. Our main business is meat production, so I was just being honest and realistic about his future. He will be loved and treated with respect regardless of his purpose.
