Assuming it's just rendering 2 spherical images with offset positions, wouldn't the effect be completely dysfunctional when you look 90 degrees to the side? ( since it's only capturing a discrete single relative eye position ) And even inverted when you look behind yourself? Wouldn't it make more sense to save a single image and a depth/normal map? If you rendered from 3 or 4 positions instead of 2, I imagine modern software could be able to interpolate the correct view pretty well, but 2 definitely seems too few.
@AmortMedia2 ай бұрын
I thought the same thing at first, but that assumption is incorrect. Blender is doing some clever trickory behind the scenes to make it work. Imagine you have a stereo camera on a tripod. The camera has two lenses spaced apart from each other the same distance as two human eyes. Each lens of the camera would be on either side of where the tripod pivot point is, so when the camera is spun around 360 degrees to capture a panorama, each lens is in the correct location for every angle because it's not rotating on it's own pivot point, but rather the pivot point of the camera as a whole. The neat thing is that Blender knows how to achieve this without rendering a bunch of separate images and stitching them together.

How did you render the volumetrics alone. Im trying but everytime it renders the image first then the fog. Instead of just the fog
@AmortMedia4 ай бұрын
I didn't use a "fog pass", It's just a big cube with a principled volume material. To render just the fog, give every object in the scene the "holdout" material. It's not 100% realistic because the fog won't be affected by light bouncing off the objects in the scene, so only use this method if you have to.
@Tincoco_4 ай бұрын
@@AmortMedia yea yea I got that part with the principled volume. But was a bit confused on how you got essentially the image that put the fog over the clean render. @AmortMedia4 ай бұрын
Blender will fit the equirectangular view to whatever resolution you have it set to. I've never had any problems with 16:9, but it wouldn't surprise me if some playback applications require a 2:1 image. I imagine 2:1 is approximately the correct ratio to keep vertical and horizontal resolution even when viewed in 360. In other words, if you rendered 4096 x 512, you'd have plenty of horizontal resolution, but it would likely appear to have vertical blurring due to the poor vertical resolution.
