From a European point of view: it never occurred to me that this might not be allowed? What about that whole freedom thing Americans keep going on about? Growing food seems like a very fundamental freedom to me.

20 years ago we bought our second home and by that time we had heard enough stories from friends that our requirements began with #1 No HOA. My home, my money, my decisions.

because the HOA is the one that actually owns the land so they get to tell you what you can do on their property.

@The_huntress111 "bought" a house... she likely didnt pay up the full sum. she put down a fair payment and engaged in an agreement to pay off the rest in 10 15 30 years... untill then, it still belongs to the HOA
