At first, I wasn't going to click on it because I thought it was about vampires. Then I saw it was a Charles Paris book.

Was the a war in Patagonia that the Welsh were involved in? I know there is a Welsh link to Patagonia as some Welsh settlers moved there in the 19th century and there’s still a lot of Welsh spoken there. I’m not sure if the whole war thing is made up though.

🇬🇧 The reason I love Charles Paris/ The wonderful Bill Nighy is as someone said, the soundtrack! I'm from the era of those songs & the amazing 1970s/80s The things Charles talks about being young then, brings back so many memories for me... Bill Nighy is my ultimate favourite actor & I've followed his progress for decades. He was "Made" to play Charles Paris & I adore that Snort he puts into his laugh. I've listened to every one of these stories 3 to 4 times over & still enjoy them as much as the first time. I wish Bill would make more or Radio plays of a similar ilk. I'm not sure if other regular cast members are still with us, but I'm sure some enterprising playwright could pen a similar set of stories? I recently saw a photo of a young Bill Nighy & he was such a looker! Wow Yet even now, he still cuts a dash & impeccably dressed. Anna Wintour is a lucky lady! Peace 🇬🇧🙋

Well, I just listened to it all and enjoyed it. Mind you it’s afternoon now and not late at night so I am relatively alert. The story hangs together, is easy to follow, has twists & turns with a surprise ending. I rate the author and have read/listened to other of his works. “A Decent British Murder” is well performed and held my attention. My thanks to Old Time Radio for making it available.

My second time hearing this and although I knew the outcome I still thoroughly enjoyed the comedy aspect of this, together with the great acting.

I kinda guessed the outcome early on BUT that in no way detracted from my enjoyment. I was quite thrilled that I had more or less worked out the ending.

You can tell George Cole had no formal training - everyone else’s diction is so crisp and beautifully enunciated whereas his isn’t. A well-acted piece nonetheless.
