I want to start a organization about helping immigrants feel more at home, as I've met some immigrants from Senegal and saw they missed their country but had to escape. I was interested in learning their language straight away, and wanted to make a project related to that.
Hi! I was thinking on something similar. Would you like to partner up and be the cofounders and start one together? I don’t really have people around me to help me, I am from a very small town with only 200 students in my whole school where nobody wants anything. And I am an immigrant, but I am a successful immigrant so seeing my relatives and other people struggling really makes me sad. I have some other ideas for such an organization. So if you would like we can discuss it and I think if we team up it will become somewhat easier.
Hi how long did it take for hackplus to respond after you sent out your application?
Has Hack plus responded?
I enjoy your videos, great info, hilarious and funny. You have a great character!
Thanks for the video! I'm coming here next fall, currently looking through videos about the student experience and I found yours so I'm watching all of them. I also make vlogs so I'm trying to learn from these in that way as well. I have a quick question: Housing applications opened up a few weeks back and I'm pretty certain I want to live in a residential college, but not sure if I want to put Ayers or Slivka first. What's your opinion on Ayers (facilities, social life, what kind of kids live there), and would you recommend it for someone who plans to major in Applied Math and CS? Hope to see you on campus!
Applied math so SURELY slivka right lmaooo naw but slivka is better than ayers in terms of quality of life other than that, slivka has closer relationships I feel? Ayers is more of a dorm vibe so more partying compared to slivka ig?
@@vincent_yangngl you do make a good case for slivka, i'll keep this in mind thanks man and again see you on campus
Thank you. Very helpful
Thank you
Super helpful video! Thank you for the NU focus on the topic.
hi i want to start a mental heath nonprofit where teens can have someone to talk to for problems that they have but I don't know how to get the resources for the services I want to offer. and like do you have any advice on getting a audience base
Tiktok however this already an exact copy of this app already being highly advertised on it
Could you make a video on prestigious summer camps for middle schoolers? Great video!!!
I am a freshman in high school and I'm trying to make a non-profit. Will I have to file taxes if I am not an official nonprofit? Once I file for 501c3 I will have to file taxes?
501c3 basically means ur exempt from filing taxes because ur a non-profit.
I feel like you just screwed up your recs though. You aren’t supposed to see ur recs like at all. My teachers and college consuleors basically told me to waive my rights to see the letter because if you don’t, colleges take it as like you influenced what the recommendation letter said. And i disagree with the point on teachers not knowing you. You should only ask for rec letters from classes you had for 2 semesters and that you actively engage in the class. The teacher isn’t going to know you at all if you are in the back of the class and barely participate and will have nothing to write for your rec letter.
Yea def screwed up on the recs lol that's the point of the video, but i dont think it's the same reason as what you said, so i just wanted to clarify for anyone reading I didn't ask to see my recs at ALL- I personally did waive my rights, but technically the counselor/teacher is still allowed to show you if they have a draft or something (?) don't quote me on that. You won't be able to see the final result though, like I didn't see the final letter they sent in, even though the teachers did ask for guidelines (and I didn't request any changes or anything for the stuff they told me they wanted to write about which was the point of my video imo). I didn't get to see my counselor recc until I was applying for a scholarship way after my college apps, but I later learned that it was the same recc letter she sent to colleges, and it was made from this form she sent at the beginning of the year that I didn't think too much about bc I didnt know it was for the letter. SO what ended up happening was my counselor and teacher reccs just said the same thing since it was just the same info lol... the best recc letters define diffeernt aspects about you- and only you can technically control that info depending on what you tell the teacher in your coffee conversation about the recc letter. That being said, I didn't really like my counselor's letter because it was like word by word what I wrote on the form, and despite me co-founding the student council (it was a small school), and becoming president- none of that was ever emphasized in the recommendation letter really- and I actually made an impact that wasn't outlined at all-and if the counselor had written on about it... it would've made my app much stronger since she comes from a position of authority... Basically, she had a template and copy-pasted everything over from the form... which imo at that time was kinda lazy, but she does have like 200-300 students to write letters for ig... My point on teachers not knowing you would apply in the case that you have a big class (or in my case, my final two years were online, so it was kinda hard to have the same feeling of connection), but also applies to when there aren't classes in which teachers are shared in those subjects- which also applied to me in that case. That being said just know that this is completely subjective, so it's just my experience imo
But back to the point of the rec letters from teachers with 2 semesters, if you just go to class it's not really enough for them to rlly know you, unless you work with them in a club or social activity, but there's much more depth that can be explored in a coffee chat -> and if teachers are busy, then the stuff I said in the video applies (I do think my opinions have changed since the making of the video, but I digress lol)
@@vincent_yang yeah i guess that is true thinking about it. My first rec had the me send the teacher the answers to a whole list of questions she asked. The second teacher wanted me to make a flipgrid video as to why i wanted him to be my recommendation.
@@vincent_yang i think you could have possibly included the fact you cofounded the student council inside the form that the counselor sent you. Since she did just copy it word for word it would’ve worked out
@@vincent_yang my teacher had a list of requirements for asking for a rec letter and i think it is good, and its how you know the teacher does know you. You don’t need to do coffee chats or use up the teacher’s free time. You should probably consider asking me for a letter of recommendation if: · I have taught you for more than one semester. · You had a weak start to the term but worked your way up (writing, participation, effort, attitude). · You earned consistently high marks on writing assignments (5.5/A), or you ever earned a 6 /A+. · You showed evidence of completing the readings. · You participated at least once a day. · You plan to major in English in college. You should probably not ask me if: · You did not participate often in class discussions. · You turned in work late / I had to remind you to turn in work. · You were frequently late to class or absent. · You frequently did not read / scored poorly on reading quizzes. · You were more successful in another humanities class (even one from sophomore year). · You plan to major in history, foreign language, art, or music in college (ask a teacher of that subject). And if you have things u think they needa add or know about you, you can include it into a email. What I’m saying is it should be enough for them to know you if you are proactive jn the class.
If you have this information in a Google Doc, can you share please?
How big of a time commitment is being an RA at NU?
for socializing and making friends. social media honestly is a great way to make friends before u arrive on campus. There will be unofficial pages where ppl r putting themselves out there and you can follow and dm them! Slowly people will even start gcs and u can honestly get friends that way through socializing online on the groupme, different pages, etc!
How many channels do you need to go into/paperwork
I want to do a non-profit getting donations-clothing for low income families and homeless people. Would that be good?
you could probably start a club in high school doing that, and then expand. its a really good idea :)
Thank you man! Love your videos. May I ask about comedy groups at Northwestern? Are there any improv clubs that are currently workin? Can't find any🥶🥶

The goal is to post 7 videos during Thanksgiving... let's see if I can hit that goal lol... :D
1. Identify your "spike" for the Why Us essay 2. You need to mention courses and activities in your essay that align with your activities list 3. Listing labs that will show you plan to continue your research project 4. Listing your aim and career path in your essay --> what is your goal at the college? 5. Balance on the school's courses and the school's extracurriculars How to Research Colleges: - course catalogs - clubs and organizations - look for labs - events
thanks a ton!
Thanks king ❤
I hope to see you too
love your vids

I'm about to apply ed...wish me luck
!!!!! so exciting!!!
It is with great regret that I inform you THEY CHANGED THE DARN SUPPLEMENT! And now it's a hybrid why us plus diversity essay. Here's the new one: We want to be sure we’re considering your application in the context of your personal experiences: What aspects of your background, your identity, or your school, community, and/or household settings have most shaped how you see yourself engaging in Northwestern’s community, be it academically, extracurricularly, culturally, politically, socially, or otherwise? P.S. : 0:44 Unfortunately, your video wasn't evergreen. And of course, I'm waiting for the new video (even though it's not gonna help me, but I'm still interested in your perspective).
OH NO I WISH I CHECKED SOONER 😭😭😭😭😭 thanks for informing meee I will def make a vid on that
Thankfully this prompt was optional for questbridge applicants because it was so similar to the questbridge essay
Is the research at the start of the essay what northwestern offers or something you have already done in the past
uhh I think it depends on what you're talkign about... are you talking about a program you want to apply to, or are you talking about research you've done in your past. Cause both are important
Oh God...... Where are all the international students at?????
My God! And I thought the college application process was stressful on my day. To have to be "professional" at the age of 17? That's insane. Anyway, Northwestern is an excellent school, so you did OK.
Do aspiring marketing and business majors need research projects ???
some portfolio would be helpful!
Thank you, right now I am eating barbecue ribs on the toilet
There is an agreement between UC and junior college where your chances getting in are much higher after finishing the first 2 years at JC. Talk with you HS advisor before jumping in.
So what was the reason??? WTF
Will you review my why us essay?
He actually got rejected because he's way too cute 🙂
Teacher so busy like a professor now
Only one school need to get in.... MIT
Love watching your videos!!!! Always informative and bring a good and chill vibe 🔥 ☺️
Your personality is so fun!!
You are so adorable ❤
I belonged to the “mediocre student” demographic coming out of high school. I managed to get into a state university, but I graduated with honors from that college in 3 years and was admitted to Stanford (and Brown) for graduate school. I also have M.S. in IT from Johns Hopkins University. I’m glad I spent my high school years having fun instead of starting a non-profit, taking 15 AP classes, and playing oboe. I get tired just thinking about that treadmill.
I get your point- but the oboe is one of the most beautiful instruments 😂 many people take enjoyment from playing or listening to this instrument
@@user-gi2kl7cv3cdon't you find it disrespectful in mentioning the least important part of someone's comment, disregarding the entire main concept of their statement, and not really adding anything of importance?
I've fallen into that high school trap and I'm pretty much stuck. Sucks balls.

What’s up bro! I’m always looking for new friends around the Evanston/West Ridge/Rogers Park area . Hmu if you wanna get to know each other
