I had no idea she stopped playing at 28. Wow. As a 29 year old, that’s unbelievable. And that she died at 42. I had no idea.

Kerson Leong just has the most expressive face. No wonder the camera was more on his face than anywhere else. The music is beautiful. Was it written for a particular event?

I weep with joy. This demonstrates how the greatest music is utterly universal. I truly believe that if the works of Bach or Beethoven were somehow to make their way to the civilisation on some planet in a distant star system, however remote, they would appreciate its greatness and find ways to perform it to each other. Passion or obsession? This woman was indeed a mystery! She obviously lived on stage what she could't attain in real life! Gorgeous indeed but no one to truly make her feel like a real woman! The appearance of that Russian fellow was probably the worst thing that could have happened to that woman! Good for her career but dreadful for her private life!

It's interesting what he says about live recordings and having to make a choice between playing for the microphone or the audience. I wonder why it is then that he goes so crazy when people make audience recordings of his concerts, especially when they are recorded in good sound. Seems the only way to reconcile the two, no?

Wonderful interview. Maestro Zimerman's comments on digital music and studio recordings were eye-opening to me. As a country mouse I am only rarely privileged to hear live performance and I am grateful that he and many other superb musicians continue to provide us a glimmer of their artistry from the studio and live recordings. I find his recent Szymanowski recording sublime, much as I find the Mythes he recorded with Kaja Danczowska. Bravo and thank you.
