    Thank you for the valuable video! I have a question. if you done scanning and deploying them before the show at coachella or any festival, do you leave the mics and iems turn off? while the mics and iems were off, can your coordinated frequencies used by others? or by turning the receivers and transmitters are on, you are safe?

  • @NicholasRadina
    @NicholasRadinaАй бұрын

    Thanks for the great question! The general answer is...It depends. With large festivals, often you will find a coordinator that "assigns" freqs to you. Yet often, it comes down to courtesy and respect for others during their set. If you are lucky to be headlining, you have a bit more flexibility. A convo with the other monitor enginners or montior tech helps tremendously. Some IEM channels I like to keep hot always if able (such as crew mixes, my Q, etc..). If you have a good relationship with the other engineers, all of this is easier. If able to scan early and know what the environment looks like before anyone fires up, that helps. Making a note of what the other bands are using if transmitting during your set can be used in your inclusion list. Some may scan, coordiatnte and "let 'em burn", in efforts to keep others from coordinating over yours or at the minimum see your frequencies as "no go". At the end of the day, making friends prevails! Hope this helps!

    Great Question! Not lame at all! Remember the name of the game is to avoid digital TV channels which transmit at huge power within the legal range of our tiny wireless mics, IEMS, etc..(which vary by distance, location, etc..) as well as other transmitters. If other transmitters (mics, instruments, radios...) are used, you need to ensure the frequency choices are compatible with EACH OTHER. Hi! Thanks for the great question! If not using WWB, then yes it's important to stay within the pre-coordinated groups. Basically these groups are made up up pre-coordinated frequencies that Shure has deemed safe to work with each other. If you are not using WWB, then scan using the hardware and then choose a group with the most "free" channels. Pick a frequency within the group, leave the transmitter ON and then scan with the next device in the SAME GROUP. Rinse and repeat! I hope thats helpful to you!

    Trying to understand the Pad better. Are you applying a pad on all receivers (P10 body pack and Axient receiver) in order to make them less sensitive to other RF sources in your environment? Also, you like to keep your PSM transmitters at 10mw. Not sure I understand how having a lower signal strength is beneficial??? I'm fairly new to the RF world. Studio guy who has found himself running monitors for a rock band on tour. After last week's gig at an Air Force Base (cue Spinal Tap) I've realized I can't rely on the sound company alone for RF coordination. Thanks.

  • @NicholasRadina
    @NicholasRadina Жыл бұрын

    Good questions! So the goal in the RF game is to reduce the noise floor and have a signal-to-boise that is sufficient for radio transmission. Using pads on RECEIVING antennas or (inline pad) for mics, instruments, etc... in some " nosy" environments helps us achieve a lower noise floor with enough RF signal from the mics, packs. Same thing for IEM's...sometimes engaging the pad on the IEM pack will help reduce the noise floor issues. As far as the transmit power (10mW), believe it or not 10mW is a LOT of power seeing that we are just trying to transmit 20-100' max. Remember the need to reduce the noise floor...your mics and IEM transmitters contribute to that "noise". By using just enough transmit power , we can further optimize a cleaner RF coordination space. I'm a bit nerdy about doing my own coordination even when there is someone who coordinated. When there is a issue with RF, my artists will look at me...not the vendor. I like to take responsibility and not pint a finger. In order to mitigate this, I will often ask that the vendor have the WWB file open on a laptop so I can review the file. Hope all f this helps!

    Good question! When using software (like WWB) to coordinate your frequencies, it's important to give the software an accurate "view" of the RF landscape. Remember we are trying to get the highest signal to NOISE ratio. When looking at your scan data you will see a certain amount of steady noise. Your transmitters need to be above that noise by a fair amount. You can use pads to "push down" the noise (as well as your transmitters), BUT your 10mW transmitters are quite strong and will rise above the noise. Yet, using pads will push the noise further down, which in turn can improve your reception.

    Can you do one from scratch please? The bottom left of the Freq Coor. Screen is empty even though I have scanned successfully. Idk what I'm doing wrong or how to add it to so I can actually assign and deploy

    Hi Vic- sure, I’ll see if I can put one together. Do take a look at some of my other videos, there may be a more basic walkthrough.

    The bottom left of my freq coordination is empty (even though devices are online and I have scanned)

    Thanks for the comment. Did you “add frequencies” to the coordination space?

    So I’m kinda confused how wireless workbench talks to the shure units. Is it done via wifi or cat5?

  • @NicholasRadina

    Hi Brian! Thanks for the question! If you have Shure products that offer network capability, WWB will be able to network/talk to them. Remember WWB can coordinate many different brands/models but only “talk to” Shure products.

    @@NicholasRadina right but actually networking the computer to the rack units needs some sort of connection via cable or wireless connection. I’m asking if it’s done via wifi, Bluetooth, Ethernet cable, etc.

    @@brian_malota if the Shure unit has a network port, this is how you can connect the unit(s) to your computer running WWB. Each unit will have a network setup where you can choose DHCP or static IP, etc…Obviously you can use a network WAP/switch to connect to the units wirelessly. Hope that helps!

    I've been doing so much m32/x32 work recently, its nice to look at m7cl in a video cause thats the first board I ever worked on. My community college is probably gonna replace it with a tf5 soon but I'd still love to get on it a few more times before they do.

    Thanks for the comment! I always enjoyed the fader layout of the m7. I could see everything so easily. Best to you on your next show!

    Hello thanks for video I use sennheiser ew 100 g3,100g2,300g2 and rear of reciever has not wlan rj45 there's rj11 so question is can i use this program and if yes how can do this?

  • @NicholasRadina
    @NicholasRadina Жыл бұрын

    Hi Vaqif- thanks for your question. The RJ11 is for data yet used exclusively by Sennheiser. This is not a network port that can be used with WWB, etc.. Only Shure devices can be networked with WWB. Yet you can coordinate nearly every manufacturer with WWB-just not the convince of networked devices. Hope that helps!
