    I bought this as my first ever DSLR 5 months ago. I bought it for 150euro in mint condition with only ~2000 shutter count. So far, I shot with nikkor 18-70mm (~50euro) and I didn't really like the image quality even if it's upgraded kit lens. Do you have any recommendations for standard zooms that would perform better? Indeed I did cheap out on lens but i'm simply not sure what to get because at the time, better standard zooms would all cost 4x more. Overall, this camera body is 9/10 for beginners, much better than what Canon and Sony offer at this pricepoint. Only things I don't like about this body is questionable build quality (some parts are great but some are made very poorly) and no flip screen.

    Hi Danilo! Thank you for asking. Have you considered its native AF-S 18-55mm or AF-P 18-55mm. I have compared these lenses (kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIJkq8x_isfKltY.html). One of the sharpest lens that I very much like to use with D3300 is the AF-S 50 mm F/1.8 (kzread.info/dash/bejne/la5ly5Vxiqq3Zbg.html). It's a full frame lens but it works so well with the D3300 - very sharp indeed. If you want better image quality then prime lenses are better. Kind regards!

    Hi! Thank you for asking. This is a very good lens and will work for multiple purposes. However, it is primarily a telephoto lens and therefore the minimum focusing distance is not optimal for food photography. It can work in certain situations but you'd be better served with some other options. Kind regards!

    Hello everyone at TomPhoto, subscribers and team. What great news for us. I used Gimp for many years in my last job to enhance product photos and make graphics, etc., but I didn't know about this nice feature. After a period of illness that changed my life, I stayed at home a lot and started photographing as a hobby (nine months ago). I learned a lot from your channel. The modern Nikon lenses I have are good because distortion correction is included in the firmware, but I also have two vintage manual lenses and a surprisingly good little Yongnuo 35mm f/2 (hard to believe the image quality for the price) and now I can fix the distortion thanks to your video. I especially like your production style and narration. It's very well done. Your photos are also very good. Wow, the first photo in this video here... You have the best voice and accent for this job. I have four copies of the XF 18-55. They are only good at close focusing distances, for people and the like. Towards infinity, they are all faulty - with weird field curvatures in different areas of the frame. This lens cannot be recommended for landscapes.

  • @tom_photo
    @tom_photo3 күн бұрын

    Hi! Thank you for making these points. This lens has been working quite well for me for landscapes, too. I think there can be variability between different units. I'm addressing this question quite soon in another video. Kind regards!

  • @GiovanniBausC
    @GiovanniBausC3 күн бұрын

    @@tom_photo Thank you! Just discovered your sharpness diagrams in your other video. These seem to confirm that there‘s something weird going on because you need to stop down to f10 to get somehow reasonable results from the 18-55. At f10, you basically enter the realm of hyperfocal distance which effectively masks out any effects of field curvature, but is close to the diffraction limit already. That said, the 18-55 works magnificently for me at closer distances. It‘s just with landscapes that each of my copies exhibits different drops of sharpness within the image - or areas which are front-focused, also depending on focal length. But I tested only up to f8. Too bad, I really loved the idea of having a small but fun and powerful second system with my X-T3 and the 18-55. Btw. with the XF 50mm f2 my X-T3 delivers tack-sharp images even at wide apertures. So it‘s not the camera. Interestingly, the 18-55 seems to be significantly better on the X-T20, more than the difference of less than 3 MP would suggest. I must admit that I‘ve tested my 4th sample of the 18-55, which I received just recently, only with IS on so far - will do another comparison with IS off shortly.

    I was going to suggest you to get another x-a1 from mpb eu. But I just checked the price and it’s incredibly expensive, almost 300 Euro! After I watched one of your earlier videos on the x-a1, about two years ago, I got one from mpb uk for about £70 in quite good condition. Now the price of the x-a1 and the x-m1 are very high. Maybe you can try to get an x-a10 or x-a20 even though those don’t have a hot shoe? I find the x-a20 faster, has an electronic shutter, and the selfy option and it’s got more colour options for manual focus peaking. So I find it good for travel. It’s a bit heavier than the x-a1 though.

    I'm on my third copy of this lens....going back four years (this version is the best). I use this lens only with non-stabilized bodies and mainly for travel. My copies have all been sharpest at F8, which certainly limits its usability in low light. Having said that, it's built like a tank, has great dampening on the zoom and focus rings and the OIS works extremely well. I agree with many who say this lens should never have been called a "kit lens". On the second-hand market, this lens in almost mint condition can be had for $300....a bargain by any measure.

If this fails try to do it manually. From the BIMP download page, download the ZIP file containing the BIMP plugin files. Extract the contents of the ZIP file to a temporary folder. Navigate to the GIMP plugins folder, typically located at C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\. Copy the extracted files from the BIMP ZIP file to this plugins folder. Not used the camera in a while but dusted it off again just now in conjunction with also aquiring a Canon EOS700 DSLR from a friend and the little Fuji still a great camera for sure. Only thing with it is the sensor is a bit noisy so at higher ISO esp in low light the images tend to get quite grainy. One thing that is for sure is mobile cameras sure are great today but they cant really beat dedicated photographic equipment although my current mobile actually has a camera from Hasselblad in it and it shows! @@tom_photo it most certainly did for thé HDR option. Its interesting that HDR then takes 2 pictures regardless of the setting of the release mode dial. The behaviour with bracketing is différent. When I selected 3F and took a picture, only one frame is taken if the release mode is on « S ». The camera took all 3 frames automatically When I chose Cl mode. For someone starting out on these fun techniques, thèse additional steps are vital to know yet few if any videos point them out. I own a Nikon D600 , which is virtually identical to your D610 , I was unaware of the levels of customization and fine-tuning available in camera, this is very useful. I almost never use HDR though, I prefer natural look of shadows, especially when trying to convey mood. I also don't spend much time in post and like to shoot jpg so HDR, done minimally and tastefully, along with bracketing , seems the way to go. Thanks for the video🙂
