This song is my thesis on why Syd had the necessary skills to become a pretty good rapper.

Anyone got the sheet music for the lead electric? I'm learning each part, the acoustic guitar was pretty easy find chords for and the bass was easy to figure out by ear, but for me it's harder to recognise notes by ear on the guitar.

Effervescing Elephant Syd Barrett An Effervescing Elephant with tiny eyes and great big trunk once whispered to the tiny ear the ear of one in fear, you hear that by next June he'd die, oh yeah! because the tiger would roam. The little one said: "Oh my goodness I must stay at home! and every time I hear a growl I'll know the tiger's on the prowl and I'll be really safe, you know the elephant he told me so." Everyone was nervy, oh yeah! and the message was spread to zebra, mongoose, and the dirty hippopotamus who wallowed in the mud and chewed his spicy hippo-plankton food and tended to ignore the world preferring to survey a herd of stupid water bison, oh yeah! And all the jungle took fright, and ran around for all the day and the night but all in vain, because, you see, the tiger came and said: "Who me?! You know, I wouldn't hurt not one of you. I'd much prefer something to chew and you're all to scant." oh yeah! He ate the Elephant.

Approximately one minute and 20 seconds (excluding intro and outro) of PURE GENIUS! So adorable in this song. I have the double vinyl "the madcap laughs", bought it in 1986 or so, and I love every song in it, but THIS, and Rats, are my favs

This song reminds me of two people... one is an old friend (he practically was an elephant, 2 metres tall and the clumsiest person you'll ever meet), this song describes his persona :D Other was my old surveying teacher, we once had a game of Truth or Dare (both teachers and students), he dared me to cover this song, which I did :D

Although Roger Waters’ stage show is brilliant, it does not come close with what Syd can do with an unplugged telecaster and his imagination

A sad story... Syd Barett was a talented, gifted young man... A real tragedy for the whole family... Pink Floyd ignored the problem, says Nick Mason... Syd's older brother was a doctor!!! They also repressed it!!! He said: Everything is fine... Nothing is fine... When he made his 2 solo albums, Syd Barett was a sick person... He was on the verge of schizophrenia... I'm interested in how he lived with his illness afterwards... Unfortunately there are no more books in Germany...

I think I can hear Blur's inspo from this track on "Trimm Trabb", possibly a similar chord progression. Might just be me though. Love Syd, he was a genius!

Definitely not just you reading the comments for both songs. I think most would agree with that, especially considering Graham Coxon considers Syd Barrett to be one of his major influences. Even though it's a common thing for people to say riffs are stolen.. it kind of seems more likely than not in this case (well, to me). But Blur did something really cool with it, and I'm glad nothing ever came up from that. It's really cool that people take influence from Syd's solo work even though it's clear not much time was put in, though that doesn't affect how great these songs are at all. I wonder if Syd Barrett would himself recognize it, or maybe if he heard it?
