Syd Barrett - Wined and Dined

Wined and dined, oh it seemed just like a dream!
Girl was so kind.
kind of love I'd never seen
only last summer, it's not so long ago...
just last summer, now musk winds blow...
Wined and dined, oh it seemed just like a dream!
Girl was so kind.
kind of love I'd never seen
only last summer, it's not so long ago...
just last summer, now musk winds blow...
Chalk underfoot, life I should prove
dancing in heat, our love and you...
Wined and dined, oh it seemed just like a dream!
Girl was so kind.
kind of love I'd never seen
only last summer, it's not so long ago...
just last summer, now musk winds blow...

IT IS REALLY FUCKING COMPLEX, there are so many layers of sounds one guitar is keeping the harmony, other guitar is painting a beautiful but abstract solo melody and the other is just there making mind blowing duck noises that reminds us of the last part of Bike. Meanwhile the voice sings an amazingly beautiful, honest and pure poem that's full of melancholy and can easily make you cry when you're in the mood...

Just imagine how much more interesting Floyd would've been with Barrett still on board through the 70s. I have a feeling that Waters wanted to be the main man anyway. Some of the tunes he released after he left (like this) show what a unique talent he was. LSD can be a f****r.

@@joannetelling his solo albums were technically Floyd projects in all but name. Nick is the only member who didn't participate, because he couldn't keep up with Syd's erratic timing. Even Syd's own replacement as Floyd's front man joined in (Gilmour), heavily. It was still Syd composing the pop stuff, getting weird on guitar, and heading the whole thing up, being the central talent as always. Madcap even has similarities to Dark Side, and Dark Globe sounds like The Wall. Throw in some extended jamming and his solo albums would be the next natural step for Pink Floyd (which he named) to have taken with him still as the leader. If the studio side of Ummagumma qualifies as a Pink Floyd album, Madcap and Barrett certainly should. They sound better than what Floyd were producing on their own anyway, at the time. They could've been recorded yesterday.

I just spent the most beautiful 3 days with my girlfriend, the girl of my dreams (distance relationship, she lives a 4 hour drive from me)... my car had broken down so I borrowed my brother's car... those 3 days were the best of my life, in fact every moment I have ever spent with her seemed just like a dream, girl was so kind, kind of love I've never seen.... she left me over the fact my brother was having issues with his own relationship, and I needed to support him, so on her last day here, I spent it trying to support him, as you can imagine she was pretty pissed off at that... she is still in contact with me, we will meet again this month for my birthday (near the end of January), but our relationship is shaky... my brother and his girlfriend seem to have broken up... what a way to start 2024

Definitely not just you reading the comments for both songs. I think most would agree with that, especially considering Graham Coxon considers Syd Barrett to be one of his major influences. Even though it's a common thing for people to say riffs are stolen.. it kind of seems more likely than not in this case (well, to me). But Blur did something really cool with it, and I'm glad nothing ever came up from that. It's really cool that people take influence from Syd's solo work even though it's clear not much time was put in, though that doesn't affect how great these songs are at all. I wonder if Syd Barrett would himself recognize it, or maybe if he heard it?

Anyone got the sheet music for the lead electric? I'm learning each part, the acoustic guitar was pretty easy find chords for and the bass was easy to figure out by ear, but for me it's harder to recognise notes by ear on the guitar.

@@lodocart4681 That's right. His playing was very rough compared to Gilmour's clean and technically very good one. Barrett still had very great ideas, but was struggling with performing them for a while already. So some of his former bandmates were supporting him with producing his solo albums.
