Hey ATBOY! You dont miss a part. The item that you talked about at 6:30 just should be built different. The part with teeth should be between those two rings.

Very detailed, step by step. One hint that I needed to apply on 'this bolt on the back' that you removed as first thing. Originally (when first removed) it's covered with this rubber adhesive and didn't wanted to get unscrewed as easy as on film. Important here - if the bolt turns around and does small 'clicking' stop pressing it down to unscrew - you need to pull it up gently while unscrewing - what is not intuitive. When whole interior that is here disassembled is removed - then I cleaned excessive old adhesive on that main bolt (with alcohol) and used WD-40 to grease it. Without it no way to get whole thing screwed back into original position. One more hint is that - since whole interior goes out easily - if it's only old grease that stops it from working. - WD-40 might be a good one to get i cleaned enough (no need for full disassembly). It's not recommended but in some cases may allow for quick fix.

A big THANK YOU! for the breakdown videos on the M091's. I picked up a nice Schwinn KOM S9 that's been living in a garage for the past 30 years and cleaned/greased the shifters following your excellent tutorial and they work perfectly now. Mine weren't as gummed up as your examples, so I caught a bit of luck there. Also, at 4:53, mine was exactly like yours with that small piece having some spring to it. Alright, time to hit the trails. Cheers.

Road bike 7 speed rear axle hub spacing is usually 126mm, not 135mm. Mountain bikes do start at 135mm for 7 speed, so this method will only work for mountain bikes.

I wish I'd watched this before I took mine apart. Very helpful video. Thanks for uploading. To get that second spring on I used a nut that was big enough for the bolt to go through so that the vice had something flat to push against. But for anyone doing it also be careful when pushing that part onto the spring as I accidentally did it slightly askew and did a little damage to the stop guide thing on the main part.

Awesome video. Thanks for taking the time to develop such a thorough product. Daunting job, but with your simple process it makes it achievable. FYI, near the end of the rebuild you have to hold back the spring and you use an Allen key. I had a look to see what the special Shimano tool looks like - a thin metal straw. I used the inside of ball point pen, one made of metal. I cut off the ball point bit and it worked perfectly first time. Thanks again.

Thanks for making this helpful video. One question if I may? What is the purpose of the slot head screw on the parallelogram? It is concealed by the cable screw and it s hard to see without flexing the derailleur. It shows up @12:08. Just curious.

Thanks to this video, I managed to save my st7801........ not exactly the same but couldn't find any for the 7801 that showed these internals..... this 105 turns out to be very similar and helped me work out the main order of assembly needed - especially the springs. Now managed to get the 7801 back to working order saving more than a few pounds. Cheers 👍🫡

I believe it will not work. I use a 11-40t 9 speed cassette and it works fine. I think this is the maximum the long cage derailleur can accommodate.

Thanks so much for this. With mine, the top screw that holds it to the lever housing fell out while riding. I put it back together and it all seems to work OK, but the shifter doesn't stay in position- it always jumps back down to the smallest sprocket. I've taken the lower cover off and removed the mech from the lever housing and it looks like everything is together correctly. The main (outer) pawl looks to be doing what it should, but I can't see how the mechanism is meant to stay at the set point (in the selected gear)- is it those inner pawls that handle this?

I am up to the warning. My cable end is stuck so if I don't go further the lever is junk. But alas on mine, the ST7800 the Philips screw at the back, at 4:40 is surrounded by a "don't turn me" washer bent up all around the screw on eight sides, and the Philips screw itself appears to have been made out of a particularly soft metal so that the cross of the Philips head stripped rather than allow the screw to open. I think I used the right sized screw driver, and put all the force pushing my driver into the screw as I could manage but all the same, it was not turning and I went and stripped it. They really don't want me to get to the mechanism. Perhaps I could drill the screw out. Perhaps when the bolts are back on the nose, the Philips screw does not need to be there. I have a special reverse threaded drill tool designed to remove stripped screws. I will try that. Thanks for the video.
