That diagram of all the traces under the lower RAM chips is brilliant. Nice to know I'm not the only one that needs a mud map to find their way around a circuit board. Looking forward to part 3!

I took a picture of the traces and opened it in PS. Then traced over the actual traces on a new layer. It worked really well. Well, it kinda worked. I missed 2 broken traces altogether!

As an added side note, I had one of these rubber keyed ZX Spectrums when I was a kid and it went in for repair so many times that I doubt there was much left in the end that was original. I remember a few times going to the local electronics repair shop with my Dad and witnessing the ever increasing nest of multi-coloured wires as the repair tech showed my Dad the latest fixes. Ever since I've always had a very strong impression that breathing on these circuit boards would be enough to make the traces do an impression of a drunk lemming, lol.

My boyhood Spectrum only had the one fault in its life. The keyboard membrane gave up eventually after too much Daley Thompson. I biked into town and ordered a new one. Picked it up a week or so later (very vivid memories of that journey) and took it home. It was my very first computer repair. I still remember opening up the case and wondering how I was going to get the membrane out of the keyboard.

@@MoreFunMakingIt Lol, definitely not. Besides, from watching these spectrum from hell repair videos, I'd say you've already had the but, or more precisely the butt, lol. Amazing repair work on such a mangled board. Someone clearly shouted yeehaaa before diving in to try to do the prior err... repairs, lol?

@@MoreFunMakingIt I bet that was quite nerve wrecking at the time, but a good starting point on your repair learning journey. I think that my Speccy completely gave up in the end, but no idea what eventually happened to it. Maybe I'm watching you repair it right now, lol. 🤣

There is definitely a point where the amount of work you put into a thing is worth much more than the thing itself. I blew waaaay past that point quite close to the start of the first episode :D But this became a challenge and I can be a stubborn old fart sometimes.

@@MoreFunMakingIt I agree I think sometimes the fun is just the challenge ( If its not commercial ofc). My challenge at the moment as a beginner is actually finding something that is genuinely just not working rather than a dealer etc who has already had a go and failed as I would be starting with no chance if you know what I mean.
