ZX Spectrum FROM HELL -Missing Legs! - Part 3

Ғылым және технология

The epic ZX Spectrum from Hell repair continues!
Today we look at the upper ram chips, the logic chips (again), a crispy resistor, the power conversion transistors, the ULA socket, the lower ram (a bit) and the logic chips (again again).
But will repairing something in each of these areas result in a working 48k Sinclair ZX Spectrum?

Although I’ve never owned a ZX spectrum, I’ve watched the first three episodes until my airpods where empty. It’s 3:56 now and i have decided to go to bed, saving the best part for tomorrow (I’m sure I’ll see a working computer then). Incredible how bad a job was done by the previous (don’t know what to call it), “person”, but more incredible still is your perseverance (or stubbornness) as you call it yourself). As said, i never owned a ZX computer (came here via a comment on Ian Scott Johnston’s channel), but you have me as a new subscriber😊. Will definitely watch more. Thanks for your first class entertainment!

Oh my god. I thought my Speccy was from hell. Both of my diagnostic ROM's diagnosed a bad lower RAM (bit3). This result didn't change even after replacing both lower and upper RAM (bit3) and even after disabling the upper RAM. I ended up desoldering/replacing: - Power connector -> bad - ROM (for the diagnostic ROM) -> good - ULA (already socketed) -> bad - Lower RAM (bit3) -> good - Upper RAM (bit3) -> bad but no difference in diagnostic result. - Lower RAM (bit0) -> good - Z80 -> good - All of the capacitors -> probably bad but no difference - Lower RAM (bit5) -> good - Lower RAM (bit4) -> good after repairing the broken leg - Broken trace under lower RAM (bit4) - Upper RAM (bit3) -> bad again/already socketed Fortunately I got some useful advices from Happy Little Diodes to find the RAM fault. But these are really tricky when you have multiple faults.

@@MoreFunMakingIt The extend and type of damage inflicted on that board is mind-boggling. I may fail to repair my ZX Spectrum (due to the lack of diagnostic tools and parts ) but one thing is sure, I will never succeed in making it look like that! lol Amazing job straightening it up btw!!! Your video (in my eyes) managed to surpass Gadget UK's Amiga repair video (destroyed by battery leakage ) and leesmiths workshop Atari XL (destroyed also by battery fluids). Those are the three most extreme repairs I have watched to this day. 👍
