Zuko was always some of the strongest story. As for Aang I think they are doing something interesting with him with the responsibility of power. Aang keeps trying to give himself over to others so they can handle the not only the power but the sorrow it comes from welding such power. Ozai is great, and daniel dae Kim is great, so glad my fan cast of him lead to him being cast.... I'm being delusional.

The arc with the 41st is hands down the best change from the original show. It's one of those changes that ADDS instead of takes away or is an unnecessary change. It's this moment where Zuko evolves from the whiney, stuck up version of himself. It makes him more complete and makes the attitude he's been harboring make much more sense. It also shows off the chemistry between him and Iroh. Definitely my favorite episode of the series so far.

Hopefully they can remedy that in the next couple seasons. I do disagree somewhat with your point about the 1st season of the cartoon. Yes it was not as "good" as the next seasons, but it did a great job in laying the framework for the rest of the show. I do not think the LA adaption did a good enough job in this. I think the issue with Aang is in the original show he didn't really buckle down and start taking his role seriously until after the siege of the north. The first half of season 1 was more him dodging responsibility and the second half was him panicking and coming to terms with the weight of it. This show cut out more of the dodging and focused more on the weight of responsibility, so it feels a bit one-note at the moment. Aang's development comes along a bit more once he almost loses Katara to the general and loses Appa in the desert. I think we'll see a much better version of Aang in season two, especially now that the show is cleared to finish the whole series so they don't have to rush as much

Agreed, I watched the original as an adult, and it irritated me to no ends with all the fluff episodes of unnecessary story. However I understood that it was a children's cartoon, so they wanted to appeal to that demographic. I'm enjoying this one much better

Well Zuko's dialogue throughout the season has been completely re written because he sounds dumber like he's never had any training being a commander before.

You guys absolutely nailed it why people are disliking the show bcoz they just took so much story out of Aang and Katara even...this show really should have been 10 episodes to give proper screen time to all the characters...the show is more focused on Zuko rather than Aang gang...hell they didnt even bother with making Aang learn waterbending with Katara and they disnt even hint at a possible romance with them

Absolutely agree that Ozai banished Zuko because he thought it was good parenting. Even in the cartoon he said “suffering will be your teacher”. He never expected Zuko to succeed. He wanted Zuko to suffer and become stronger (then Ozai would have reversed the banishment), or stay ‘weak’ and away from the throne forever.

You guys have also to understand that the writers hadn't known that they would get more seasons. That's probably why they wanted to get as much of the story as they could in this season. They'll probably spend most of next season on character development since the third season is already green-lit 🖖😎👍

I remembered in an interview that the creators said they are not going to do the time limit till comet because of the aging of actors between seasons. Obviously, the comet will come. It will just be after small time skips after seasons unless they do season 2 and 3 at Sametime, then they may change their mind.

I'd like to point out that in the credits of every episode, the original creators are not there. But in Episode 6 they are written as writers of that episode, because it is the only one they did work on before they left. The best episode in the show is the one the original creators worked on.

zuko and iroh continue to be the most compelling characters in any adaptation. I guess the 41st division change was from the og creators. They have a writing credit in this ep i believe so makes sense it worked.

The dynamic between Zuko and Iroh is definitely the best part of this season, the most heartbreaking and well rounded journey. If the show gives this much attention to the relationship between Katara and Aang in the next season, this show would be unstoppable. As it is, I think the live adaptation would have been spectacular if it had been 10 episodes long in order to further flesh out the relationship between Sokka, Aang and Katara while letting key moments breathe more.... This show is on the very verge of greatness. You can tell all the pieces are there. The script and pacing just needs some tweaking.
