Reminder that Zolgen Makiri wasn't even a bad guy at the start. Or at least not worse than the typical Mage. He also was in love with Justeaze von Einzbern. This. Unless you read the original VN, you don't really appreciate just how bad Zouken *actually* is.

This is why I can never truly say that UBW and stay night have good endings , even if both routes ended happily the thought of sakura still being under zolken's command after the war , the worm pit and shinji's "antics" still happening AND the fact that no one is coming to save her is disturbing and puts chills under my spine

Things do get better for Sakura at least somewhat in the other routes. In Stay Night Shinji is dead and in UBW he changes from the trauma of what happened to him so he stops being cruel to Sakura. Rin and Sakura do eventually reconnect in UBW before Rin and Shirou go to the Clock Tower. Also in every route Rin and Waver come and eventually dismantle the grail system so Zouken’s plans for the grail go up in smoke.

@@777MangaKing7771 It's a mistake to say Sakura actually "heals" in the other two routes though. HF is explicitly the only route where she and Shirou confront their traumas and internal feelings. Sakura is just going to go back to being dead inside in Fate and UBW she's going to be dealing with the fact that her sister cucked her and Shirou completely left Fuyuki.

I thought by WoG Zouken is still taken out of the picture in the other routes? Like when I watched UBW there was a scene with Gilgamesh and Shinji in Zouken’s wormpit, and it was empty, and Gilgamesh crushed a worm beneath his foot. I thought that implied Gilgamesh vaped Zouken out of existence?

My first reaction upon seeing the title was "This video is going to he demonetized" because of what I already knew about Zouken's magecraft

Shinji is complaining because he was born in a family of magus and in that world, they're all obsessed with magical accomplishments. The irony is that Shinji is talen ted in many ordinary fields, he's a very good student with very good grades notably, and he seems pretty successful with girls. But none of that matters in the world of magus, either you have a talent for magecraft or you don't and you're useless garbage. Add that with the fact that Zouken is an abusive jerk who probably tormented him with his failures for the hell of it and you can see why he's so desperate.

Man I gotta wonder what the Zolgen family magecraft was before Makiri (i.e Zouken) decided to become a horror movie monster.

I think the fact that Sakura's innate magic was Imaginary Numbers it's conclusion that the crest worms were more of a debuff than they were a buff All they did was sexual assault her for 11 years and made her predisposed to 1: just accept the assault or be slowly/painfully consumed by them & 2: made her a seriel killer with 3: having her become a perpetual seriel r@pist herself the older she became Now, it makes sense that Kama fusing with Dark Sakura results in Her fvcking people to death (based off FGO lore), using people to stimulate the worms and then having the mind broken individuals be decomposed/consumed by the worms That's fucking crazy

Imagine giving your daughter to the modern day Blue Beard. I do have to wonder what inspired Zoukens character and his magecraft functions because all this detail seems taylor made to maximize Zouken's sadism and warped psychology. I like to think even even The Dead Apostles would be disgusted by him. I don't think it's been done yet bt Gem Magecraft might be an interesting topic if the light novel expands on it. I have to wonder why gems and which specific gems are used for what type of magecraft.

If you don't mind me speculating, here's my current assumption for inspiration of Zouken's magecraft. 1) At first there was H. P. Lovecraft's story "The Festival" (written in 1923, first published in 1925), which featured wizards that were implied to have continued to exist after death through worms that devoured their corpses. 2) In 1982, a campaign for "Call of Cthulhu" RPG, called "Shadows of Yog-Sothoth", came out and featured the Crawling One, which is the aforementioned idea from "The Festival", only explicit. 2.1) There was also a creature called "Worm that Walks", which was a telepathic, shape-shifting, magic-draining, blood-lusting creature. 3) In either 2001 or 2002 (I'm finding conflicting statements), "Epic Level Handbook" for "Dungeons & Dragons" comes out and features what is essentially Crawling One, but it is called 'Worm that Walks'. 4) In 2004 "Fate/stay night" comes out. Zouken's shtick is likely inspired by Crawling One from CoC. Less likely, it's inspired by D&D's Worm that Walks (I'm not sure when "Epic Level Handbook" came out in Japan).

Reageding gems, I think they are materials that are compatible with certain types of magecraft and work as enhancers to boost certain spells. I also read somewhere that magic users will dedicate certain things to help with ceremonies and what not.

From what I've seen some dislike Sakura because her character doesn't stand out too much and I partially agree because HF is where she shines whilst she's an after thought in the other two routes. Some, I think dislike Sakura because of the shadow and they belief in the hero mindset of kill all enemies to save innocents. Sadly, in their quest for justice they forget that Sakura too was a victim and the extremists treat her like she's a devil when she isn't. Then there are others who just hate her for the sake of hating her.

And not giving characters good character traits. And also what he gave Black Len in Kagetsu Tohya a h scene which was a bad move for Nasu to write for Len and Takeuchi should stop him and not give a picture of cgi of Len doing to Shiki.

Part of it was to be edgy, part of it was because of what FSN originally was. A lot of people don't realize/are too young to know that the original release of FSN was basically a compromise where a bunch of porn elements got included into the story he wanted to write because that was the only way he could get published back then. You bet your ass that most of the more... um... revolting aspects of Zouken come from the game being originally an eroge.

At 11:53 I never liked how the worms were changed to a different look to sexualize Sakura's character. This never happens with Kariya but with Sakura that I don't like. The worms would still make more sense to the plot of the story than the Shadow being brought up Sakura's route doesn't add anything to the plot and I wish some of the worms that were in Sakura's body would change into flying insects how did with Kariya's in Fate Zero. The worms that were inside of her would change into flying insect moths under Sakura's control. Shinji's mother died in that worm pit that was told in Wiki Fate Stay Night.

It really doesn't matter you could watch Zero first and then UBW and then the Heaven's Feel trilogy. If anyone says this is the wrong order ignore them because it don't matter. It will always be a never ending debate if you listen to anyone else. Then after these 3 you can watch anything of Fate. As long as you enjoy it, it doesn't matter.

Honestly? Zouken long since stopped being human. I don't think Zouken was evil by the end-- that gives him too much agency. He became a demon, but the man the demon took the form died a long time ago. What goes by the name "Zouken" is nothing more than a ghost to be purged, and that's exactly what my man Kirei did.

Random thought. In an ironic sense because some mage craft is seen as useless or weak they have less practitioners. By the clocktowers own speculation this means that the potential of those useless magecrafts is significantly higher than the more practiced. The only downside it seems is the initial buy in of training and experimentation. Projection has the potential to trace phantasms but no one wanted to be stuck with the lowest form of Projection that being making hollow copies. Same for the worm families perhaps. Mages are more interested in pursuing already paved paths, they tend to pursue magic that their families are predisposed to and those magics tend to be exceptionally well researched. They are powerful but they have well defined limits.

Another part of his magic I’d like to be touched on further is the idea that the Matou family magic is infamous for stealing their techniques and magecraft from other mages, which implies that they might be able to steal and integrate another mage’s crest into their own by feeding them to the worm pit.

Eh... most of them would balk at the overt, over the top sexual nature of some of Zouken's thaumaturgy, at least if we go by the original FSN version of Zouken. The re-release and subsequent depictions of him in other media toned that down a lot. I imagine he'd be looked down on by others on his level in World of Darkness. Not seriously mind you, especially given his success rate, but kind of in the way that some people look down on people who do dirty jobs, like people who drive garbage trucks and so on. EDIT: I guess it also depends on which edition of Vampire we're talking about, too.

Reinhard fighting gil would be interesting but... i have a feeling reinhard would win from his immortality and spear alone though i dont know much bout that. Only thing id wonder is what fate chars could resist reins charisma or mercs anti charisma

@@readthiscomment6748 Gil has black barrel which nullifies immortality. Also, Gil may have something in GOB that can counter the spear or hell he may have the prototype of the spear plus SNI would be a great help to Gil

@@thirdplanet4471 Isnt reinhards immortality like, if you actually kill him hell just instantly become a hadou god on top of being linked to mercurius whos already one? And im pretty sure his spear ignores distance and can overrite hadou god laws n shit. That would probably be a bit much even for enuma elish. Then again reinhard only uses when hes enjoying the fight so its probably also whoever gets turned on the quickest. Either way now that i think about it, going by the whole army and legion summoning thing, reinhard is basically what youd get if gilgamesh and iskander had a beautiful nazi baby.

@@readthiscomment6748 It's a bit confusing but it seems that Reinhard has to awaken to his status as an apoptosis to utilize his full power. At least that's what I understood by Rea's route. Plus, his death in Marie's route also adds to this.

Honestly the impressive (read: awful) thing about his magecraft can do the same things other more benevolent types of magic can do but it does it in the most tortuous way possible. It's awful for awful's sake. That's my read anyway

Then how come Zouken is still alive being mentioned in Hollow ataraxia same goes for Shinji too. Heaven Feels shouldn't be a separate story being played into anime when it's supposed to be tied into a full story lore into Fate Stay Night except UBW being another parallel universe story based on Shirou route. Zouken is still alive and we haven't heard from the last of him yet and thinking there will be a crossover story tied with Tsukihime.

@@Nekogami04 Still not sure why people say he was killed by gilgamesh in ubw when all he did was crush a few worms while talking about his genocide plan. Even though id like that to happen it does seem unlikely hed use enuma elish to destroy all those worms judging by how he handled 4th grail war caster unless he got that repulsed by them.

What i mean is that gil would need to aoe to destroy all of zoukens worms, or sacrifice a shitload of treasures that he wouldnt want back after touching those repulsive insects. Aoe is best done with ea which he dont like using so...

@@Nekogami04 Guess he was just being that lazy against caster then. Either way gil killing zouk doesnt really have any confirmation and all we know is that he stomped on a few worms. I would argue either way that theres a better chance of sakura being in some way saved in ubw than in fate route since 10 years after greater grail war exists, and shirou would stay with rin, having direct connections with sakura as a result, plus rin losing her cold magus mindset.

Personally, I am of the opinion that 98% of his entire EXISTENCE is vile and unnatural, the remaining 2% comprised of his love for Justeaze eliciting a tiny amount of pity from me.
