I bought the mt-420 4 piston and sold the levers and bought the XT handles and it improved the modulation doesn't feel on and off. Very nice. Good review as usual. Those brakes have air in them. It's often hard to get it out of the rear some air trapped in caliper. I had a similar issue with the Meroca MT420s but I figured out one of the pistons is leaking. There us a new 4 Piston brake, the Zitto M840 that also is about 75.00 on Amazon. Giving those a test now. O have a Shimano XT lever I'm going to experiment with on these brakes as well. Love the "Clean Videos". 😎👍

    Great review. I was also wondering about switching out the brake levers for a different reach. I was also thinking that if you did a "bleed" to reposition the caliper pistons closer to the rotor for a quicker bite would help. Just a thought to save those knuckles. Ride safe and enjoy.

    Cheers, I don't think bleeding will help, the lever usually starts out soft at the pull then goes hard with pumping them. It's more than likely the pads are cheap, I'd try some shimano metal pads which handle heat better if your bleed doesn't work.

    I had a mixed brake lever and caliper combo. I use shimano deore levers attached to meroca m4 calipers. At first I didnt understand how it behaves because my other 4piston brake bites all the way when squeezed. The shimano levers gives me very good modulation on braking. I think in my opinion, braking like an ABS gives you better control than braking hard. It prevents your tires to swerve and crash. Overall, the 1finger deore levers works very well with the meroca m4.

    Thanks for the RT review. I can see where these brakes make sense as a possible upgrade option for a person who is a beginner to MTB riding and upgrading a entry level bike. I certainly agree that they are an definite improvement over what most entry level bikes come with! After watching this review and the other brake videos you've done. I am still skeptical of them howver, due to the lack of a real customer support by the manufacturer and retailer(Amazon/Ebay have some very shady sellers) Personally, I went with the Magura MT Thirty brakes for my budget build. Sadly, like everything else they've increased in price from $89 (Aug 2021)to $107 currently. The biggest "bonus" to the whole Magura line up of hydraulic disc brakes(and rim brakes as well) is that the brakes can be used on either side by simply flipping the lever over.

  • @That_Stealth_Guy

    @@WOLFTICKVIDEOS The Magura brakes don't flip the pads, but the levers themselves. The reservoir itself has a bleed port on both the top and bottom. All you need to do is shorten the hose to fit either the front or rear. It's like 2 meters long on each so you have plenty of hose and they comes with the barb, olive and even a little hose plug to keep the fluid from leaking from the hose when you cut it.

    Great review. The MT200s are the only "low end" part of my bike. I have heard using Deore or higher levers drastically improves braking. Thinking of going that route soon. That said, I don't think I would use or recommend these. Hard to trust your brakes if you don't know exactly how they'll bite. Too much cactus and thorny bushes in my neck of the woods to risk overcooking a corner.

    You can mix and match Shimano to some degree. My bike came with Shimano MT501 brakes and the rear/RH lever developed a leak and I was able to just swap out the lever to a Shimano Deore (much better). I am actually looking at just swapping out the front caliper to a 4 piston for additional power whenever I need to replace it.

    Stay away from m6100, the reach adjustment effects the power, close rto the var it is, less you can press the piston in the master cylinder, absurd. This is due to servoeave, and not having an adjustment to counteract this, like XT has. I had m615, then m6000, same issue on those. Yongey proper power you have to have the lever all the way out. So unless you have long fingers, you are screwed. So no go for kids, and ppl with short fingers. Stock position is safe, but underpowered. Adjusted for a small child, is a death trap can't stop. I wish there was a law that specified this issue so it was illegal to sell it.

    One thing that a shop told me was that its better to swap out rotors if you're using a separate set of brakes to ensure their performance. Sometimes the compounds in the pads differ and that can mess with the rotors.

    2:11 you should not have the skewer quick release lever at this position, this position makes it very hard to undo it. Always put it facing rearwards. This way you have better leverage and can place your hand behind the lever to open it. Unless you have a DT Swiss skewer, those you can lift and plate at any angle.

    Question: would moving the brake levers down the bars, further away from the grips, help for 1 finger braking or would it screw things up too much for more than 1 finger? The brakes seem like an amazing value, unless you ride black diamonds. I'd feel very comfortable using them on a bike that only sees pavement or light off road like fire roads. It was nice seeing your local roads. If I lived there I'd have to ride a road bike. Not out of love for road bikes but because I'd get my license revoked right quick going through the gears in my turbo on those open mountain roads.

    I just saw these on Amazon for as low as $49.99 and they come in various colors. As far as I know, the major brands do not offer their stuff in various colors, so if you are doing a budget upgrade and want a particular color scheme you have the options of Oil Slick, red, blue, black, silver, gold and purple. Do you think the spongy feeling was due to air in them? Maybe a good bleeding of the hydraulics would solve that? My 10 cents (inflation adjusted)

    Looks like your brakes have air in the system from factory, or are leaking and letting in air through faulty seals at the caliper. Might be they did not fill them up all the way, too little fluid in system, or they did not bleed them properly. This does not surprise me. If I go hydraulic again I will get proper brakes. Currently using mechanical brake stha twont give these issues.

    @@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I get that, but even Shimano or SRAM brakes will feel like that if they have air in the system. That doesn't mean that the brakes are bad or of lesser quality. Now if you bleed them and they still feel that way...then I would agree that you have a problem with those brakes.

  • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS

    @WOLFTICKVIDEOS

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Only One Cannoli So the problem with that theory is we have three sets of MT200 and some MT420 plus several other brands like Tektro ect...and we have rarely or never had a problem with fade regardless of maintenance. Our MT420's have hundreds of miles on them and have been through a couple of summers and winters and still work great with zero fade. We also tested some other Zoom brakes in the past with the same problem even after bleeding them. The main reason we didn't cut these brakes before we ran them is so they can be in the best case factory fresh condition before testing. I understand you want them to perform perfectly, but it just is not the case this time atleast. We want all "budget" bike parts to perform perfectly, but we owe it to the #wolfticknation as well as ourselves to be impartial and fair but most importantly as honest as possible. Hopefully the next set of Zoom brakes will fair better. We do still plan on messing with these in the future.
