Great review! I appreciate the comparisons and using the same phrase for testing.

I respectfully DISAGREE: When used correctly, the Zoom Am7 provides a MAJOR upgrade to any internal microphone on any Android smartphone. I just tested it myself, and the improvement is OBJECTIVELY undeniable.

I used mine just now and was going to return it, but realized playback should be used with headphone jack as opposed to the phone itself. It actually sounds quite good the way a zoom should the way a zoom should.

Well, after you botched the description of the switch and its functions, the rest of your review was quite suspect. Your results did not match mine AT ALL. I use it with a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and I am 100% pleased with my purchase.

That's weird because on my s21 ultra they recently released a firmware and software update and it works brilliantly. I use it for classical and opera concerts and the gain dial works as intended. I also found the clarity to be far superior than the built in mic. Fun fact: you can also use it with the stock camera app when recording a video (in pro mode).

Exactly why I'm looking for a good USB mic for phones. I also have the S21 Ultra and noticed the pro mode USB mic. I didn't like the sound quality on this review but your comment makes me think otherwise. I may purchase one now.

Can u use it for phone call with the headphone jack

It seemed to me like the spacer should be a separate piece also, something you should *add* not subtract. I think airplane mode is ok when I thought about it, don't want to get a phone call while recording.

The flight mode advice is obvioualy a precaution. You don't have to do it, and it works fine. But of course it can interfere at points (as with all mics and amps you put your phone near!).

I'm confused about the audio sources as we're listening. Did you edit in the various recordings, to compare? Also, it would be better to hear the comparisons with live music, have somebody strum an acoustic guitar for instance. Also Also, zoom out a little so we can see the product better, not just a close up of your face.

My experience is very different. I'm using iPhone 15 max. I have Rode's and a Zoom H4N for comparison. Using with an extension lead so I can better place the microphone. Stereo imaging and high frequencies are vastly improved over internal microphone. Internal mic isn't bad either. I use it for recording sound effects and ambient sounds and this works extremely well with or without deadcat. When using with external lead - touching the mic does cause handling noise. It's never going to replace a dedicated stereo or shotgun microphone. But what it does do extremely well - is record detailed audio in a very compact and easy to take around with you, unit.

Thank you for your review. I have to say I've actually preferred the AM7 of all of them. Even the dedicated recorders. Sounded like you were in a sound treated recording booth already, without the hassle. True, the other recorders sound louder (didn't understand your concern about the AM7 being too loud, thought it was the quietest) but didn't impress me that much. I suppose it's very individual. Thank you for your review though once again.

Zoom h1n is best or classic zoom h1 best bro for one3 Rd of money

I wanted to record live metal bands and wanted something better than smartphone in built mic.. But the recorders I have bought are too "hot" ie sensitive.. Arguably this is great for voice capture, but 500w amp cranked to 11 not so much, lots of clipping... How to find an insensitive mic that can clearly record very loud noise levels without blowing my ears out on playback.. Like I say, sensitivity is good, depends on use-case. Live metal bands are painfully loud and being recorded too loud causes distortion and clipping in the recording so it sounds like mushy tomato

I use a zoom H4 for that, right in between amps and drums in the mancave. On the lowest mic settings, it's perfect.

Did you have a bad diner ?

Nice review bro. Think I'll just get a seperate recorder as I was wanting to use this bad boy to livestream band practices and airplane mode was the deal-breaker. Very informative and practical my dude! Keep it up!

We did a livestream in a park where there were pipebands and folk bands and recorded music played and livestreamed it on Facebook and it worked brilliantly. We attached the am7 to a dongle that was attached to the phone. The phone was obviously not set on airplane mode. We received lots of positive comments on the quality of the sound. The scope of the gain is really important if you are playing loud instruments indoors e.g. bagpipes. The microphone worked really well for me recording bagpipes indoors for online solo competition.

Airplane mode is a must , otherwise you risk your recording to cut off the second someone calls your phone . I lost great video opportunities 3 times because i forgot to put it on airplane mode. I use Samsung galaxy phones. Perhaps your phones are different. But if your not sure try recording a video and have someone call your phone while recording. Then try it in airplane mode .

I don't mean to be dispectfull with your opinion but the quality of all of the recorders and phone sound are basically the same. I have to say cellphones mics nowadays have a very good sound quality but h1n and DR-05 are way better than phone mics sound. I own both , both have internet interference with the phone, tascam is worse than zoom in that field. My only concern with the AM7 and sound quality is not one of them is that if it shooting down the internet on the phone doesn't end the interference then I'm not interested. I just need a trs to stereo cable to put some distance between the phone and the recorder and that is it. The Mid Stereo feature is a great feature for musicians. So to capture birds and water running and thunderlight you only need your phone's mic.

For any play, song, etc, all you have to do is a Google search with a few of the lyrics. Searching his first few words, "If we shadows have offended" and you immediately have the answer. Enjoy!
