Zoo Tours: The New! Wild Asia | Akron Zoo

Episode 102
On this episode of Zoo Tours, I'm taking you through Ohio's NEWEST exhibit - the Akron Zoo's Wild Asia! Opened May 2021, seven years in the making, this new complex replaced the oldest attraction in the park to make way for a brief but fresh perspective of the world's largest continent. While there now may be only three species, you'll still notice just how diverse Asia can be. With $9 million, the zoo gave a Red Pandas a larger home, brought Gibbons back to Akron, and designed a Tiger facility made for future cubs!

I think if these new tiger exhibits grew and "aged" like the tiger exhibit during the twilight years of Tiger Valley, we'd have a much more immersive experience overall! IDK, I just wish I was able to visit Akron back when Tiger Valley was a thing.

The prayer flags are a cool touch. And I like that they focused on quality over quantity with these exhibits, giving the animals plenty of space and options, and the guests a variety of different places to view them from.

love the tours but is there any chance you could make them more frequent or longer to around 10-30 minutes please , this is due to me being so eager to watch these amazing vids and can sometimes be frustrating with a 4 minute video i have to wait 2 weeks for

  • @ZooTours

The two week intervals is due to a shortage of footage. If I go through too many episodes in a short amount of time, there's a chance there won't be any tours at all in the near future. The video length is based my schedule throughout the day, and what the animals do. The tigers properly showed for 30 seconds, pandas didn't move, which left the gibbons to take the spotlight. I find my videos more successful if they're straight to the point vs. focusing on the same animal for too long. The next episodes however, will both be over 10 minutes long.

And I 100% where you're coming from, I'm glad you said something, I'll fix the schedule to make sure there are no two short videos back to back. I'm going to find ways to extend episodes as much as possible. Also, I told the person I usually film with "no more short vids, no matter how small the exhibits is".

To give a great first impression to new viewers, they will now only run into decent or high quality content - which will encourage more to subscribe. Episode numbers have been removed because they're unnecessary and to avoid confusion. All videos that have been removed will be featured again in the future with a more modern style.

I think these exhibits are great for the animals but my goodness no amount of grown in foliage can take away from the ugly appearance for me. It’s a mess of concrete and netting with nothing naturalistic. Zero immersion what so ever. And they bulldozed a bunch of decent exhibits to make it. Mind you the old ones weren’t perfect but this seems like a bit much. And we know akron zoo can make great immersion exhibits Bc they build grizzly ridge not even a decade ago.
