Ziss Breeder Box Review | 1 Year Review of Ziss Breeder Box

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The Ziss breeder box is a great tool to have in an active fish room or even just for a singular fish tank. There are many ways to use the Ziss breeder box besides just raising up fry and I hope you guys can see the usefulness of having something like an internal breeder box on hand.

Interesting. I remember a bunch of content creators suddenly were unboxing these like I was the only one that missed that Oprah episode where they were given away & I was thinking that they were put out there for beta testing. Sounds like they’re good for eggs & fry grow out but not spawning. Think I’ll save my money for the time being. Great review brother!👍🏾

For the longest time they were hard to source in the US because very few people we carrying them. Then Aquarium Coop started carrying the BL-3 series, I have the 2 series, and they started sending them out to their brand ambassadors to show people they exist. Or so that is what I think happened but it could be entirely different. So, I also noticed the same thing and think that is what happened and why everyone seemed to have their hands on it. The other biggest perk is that they are super sturdy and the plastic is really high quality but I still haven’t found much use for them in my opinion that couldn’t be accomplished with a much cheaper DIY version, thinking the fry racks in Deans fish room or the same system in Jarden Aquatics fish room.

Thanks for your video. When you raise fry in this box, if you feed them baby brine shrimp, these BBS can leave the box through the side mesh ?

When I fed BBS into it they would slowly work out. Not all at once but over time I’d find them in the main aquarium.

Can green laser corydoras fry not get stuck on the mesh

I’ve never bred corys before so I can’t speak to that. My biggest concern with Cory fry/any fry would them being able to pass through the mesh if they are small enough. That was a problem I had with my CPD fry. They could swim through the mesh and end up in the main tank.

    This good for guppy fry?

I’ve seen it work well with guppy fry. I have personally never used it for guppies though. I would think you would need to limit to flow coming into the breeder box because it can create quite a current.

Problem with ziss is CPD, Emerald rasbora are so tiny they can fit through mesh, hang on back with a big piece of sponge covering the whole over flow side is far better. Ziss breeder are better when fry are bigger or bigger speciese of fish

You had issues with the CPD fry escaping through the metal mesh grates? I never got to the point where I ever had babies in there that were that small to know that was an issue. That is good to know though! I do agree that they are better suited for larger fry for sure.

@@TheAquariumLibrary I used both hang on back and ziss to test which was better as hang on back creates noise, I found they both create noise and ziss creates more flow inside too. ( all depending on water level ) I put CPD eggs in both to hatch out and found I was finding fry swimming in main tank on top of water so I caught them and put them in ziss. At first I thought they was eggs I missed and survived until I started to watch carefully ( on my day off work ) I saw them swimming through mesh on ziss. Now i used hang on back for smaller fry then move them into ziss when bigger then into main tank when big enough

Wow, that is good to know. I am sure this would also be a problem for other smaller fry like rainbow or maybe even tetra or other danio species. Thank you for sharing and letting me know. Very helpful information.

@@TheAquariumLibrary no problem mate, I removed mesh on 1 side of ziss on 2 breeders and glued them together turning it into a mini planted tank and bred clown killifish from doing that. Removed eggs, ( they preferred to spawn on marrimo moss balls ) and put them in hang on back as them fry are tiny too. I'm thinking of trying pseudomugil luminatos next same method but with spawning mops rather than moss balls. Hope the lil tips from my finding help.

Clean that box and maybe you could breed in there. Doesn’t look like you’ve touch that tank in months. Fry also like fresh water changes. If you let that evaporate a couple inches, you are not maintaining water changes properly, therefore hindering the growth of all your fry.

I touch the tank every day. I have plecos in the bare bottom 40 gallon tank that the Ziss breeder box is on that are constantly stirring up mulm. That then settles out in the breeder box hence the mulm. I also kept the tank water level intentionally lower due to many reasons. I opted to breed my CPDs in their own tank rather than in a breeder box due to the size. Breeder boxes aren’t actually large enough to breed fish in them, in my opinion. And that would be the case regardless of the amount of mulm inside it. Have you found that to be different?
