In this ZINUS 8 Inch Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress Review, we unbox our new mattress and sleep on it for a week before finalizing this review.
We got this mattress for one of our sons because he was sleeping on an old hand-me-down mattress that was falling apart. We always look for natural or organic bedding, but most organic beds are very expensive. I know because I recently purchased an organic latex mattress for my wife and me. We wanted to get my son a mattress like ours, but decided to go with the Zinus because it was much more affordable and had pretty good reviews. Although it's not natural, we thought it was a good compromise compared to the average mattresses available, which are often made from more toxic materials.
That being said, Zinus mattresses did have some controversy a little while back. They were using fiberglass in their mattresses to meet federal flammability standards, and some people were complaining of respiratory issues they attributed to the fiberglass in the Zinus mattresses.
Now all new Zinus mattresses are manufactured fiberglass-free, and a carbon rayon sleeve is used as an alternative to meet the federal flammability standards.
Although this Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress is not natural, it is CertiPUR-US certified and also has an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification.
CertiPUR-US® certification requires the following standards to be met, which I've quoted directly from the certipur.us website:
* Made without formaldehyde
* Made without ozone depleters
* Made without phthalates regulated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
* Made without mercury, lead and other heavy metals
* Low VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million)
* Screened for relevant chemicals, including flame retardants, that are classified as carcinogens, mutagens or reproductive toxins and are harmful to human health.

Although this Zinus mattress has mostly positive reviews, some of the reviews showed complaints of the mattress becoming moldy. The quote below comes directly from the mattress listing. I included it because it seems like Zinus has taken some action to help prevent mold formation.
