Where can I buy an FPV module for $40? I'll just take a piece of thin plastic hot glue to the bottom of it. Put a small battery connected to it with a charging port and attach it to the drone and I'm legal. The FPV drone people fly all the time with exposed circuit boards. Why would this unit be any different?

Under protest, I will fly without RID until the FAA allows swapping of RID for Part 107 holders for business purposes. Having to have a RID for drones not in the air is nothing more than over priced business tax. Recreational flyers can swap, so should Part 107 holders for business. Also, the price for these RID units are way overpriced for having to purchase for each drone in a single operator business having multiple drones.

I don't know how recently you looked, but the FAA actually took it a step further and said, "If you've registered a drone recreationally, you can't register it Part 107." This is a shift from 2-3 years ago, when you could transfer it. And I know this, because when I got my Part 107 I contacted the FAA via phone and email, and via both channels the FAA rep stated, "Yes, now that you are Part 107, you need to re-register your drones as Part 107." I was fine with that. I do agree about being able to swap. I swap battery packs, so why not RID. I can also swap controllers if I really wanted (e.g. use my Air 2 controller with my Mini 2, or vice versa) and same with Avata/FPV drone controllers and goggles. I don't have to have two sets of DJI goggles V2.

Thanks for the info Russ. I have the older Autel Evo(N0 rid) and the M3P which has RID built in. I don't fly the Evo that much anymore, but it works fine. I think I'm gonna wait until they all start to drop in price. The Evo is an old bird and can't see spending more$$$ on it.

Hey Russ, at about 6:50 you mentioned that it tracked movement of the control station. Since this is a single unit attached to the drone, it shouldn't be possible for it to track the control station. Is there a second transmitter included for the control station, or was that coming from the bbuilt-in RID on your mani 4?

What about the Holy Stone RID? Sales for $89.99.

How will anyone know if you don't have remote ID? Is it just "in case" someone checks on you while in public?

I ordered the module two months ago when I seen your video I am still waiting for delivery of ordered Zing RID paid for upon order

Thanks Russ. I just canceled my order for another module and ordered this one. When I clicked on your link to them it came up $179.99. Could not find $169 anywhere. It was still much less than the one I have had on backorder for a while.

No. Your mavic 3 is new enough that it has the RID hardware built in. You may need to do a firmware update however.

Because you inspire two weighs more than 250 g then yes it is required on your inspire 2 even if you are flying only recreationally

So the price on these has dropped to $85 as of today. The Flight Test you show, has it from the RID perspective. I'm more concerned as the pilot the impact. Did it affect your ability to C2 (Command and Control)? I know we can't fly in a RF coffin, but generally speaking I think you could test if it affects it in a visible way. Then, did it affect your ability on a Mini 2 to get GPS lock for the on-board flight processor. It's nice the RID gets a clear line of sight on the sky, for GPS reception, but I'm wondering if having the co-plane mounted GPS receiver right next to it, and on top of it, affects the DJI Mini 2 GPS receiver's ability to still lock and track as many GNSS satellites for my Return to Home and similar flight operations which rely on GPS.

I dont think you meant to say it weighs a little under 40 ounces ha.the websight said 35 grams. just being a good fan...

@@51Drones Keep your eye open for us, and many of us DJI pilots do play with FPV and it would be so nice to just velcro a all in one system to our drone, then us hobbies could just stick on what ever drone we are flying at the time, I do enjoy you videos, that was a cut short video on what to do if a plane in you air space “crash it”. I have purchase many of the products you recommend, keep up the great work..

Don't say it's available if you have to wait 4 weeks. I bought the Beacon RID module almost 4 months ago from Vertigo and still don't have it. They said there was a 4 to 8 week backlog. If there's a wait, then it's a pre-order.

Watched the flying in cold video. None of my existing drones can be rid compatible.

No way he just called a 170 dollar module “affordable”. I won’t be buying a module for any of my fpv drones till it’s free.

a first time visitor to your channel would have no idea what purpose this item serves. I've been here a while and still don't see why I would want this.

FAA requires remote ID (RID) for drones by early next year. Older drones don't have RID so they require a separate unit to remain in compliance.

How does the module transmit the controller location? Is that the bluetooth connection?

@@51Drones For Broadcast Modules, we are transmitting the takeoff location for the operator location. The takeoff location is the location of the first accurate GPS fix. It will remain consistent throughout the flight.

Holy stone module is smaller, 14g and roughly half the price.

I’m so confused about the whole Remote ID thing. What’s the point of having position tracking that only covers a 300 foot radius? Does that satisfy the FAA requirement? Don’t they want the ability to to track drones from long distances? The whole thing is bewildering.

@@adambezark2293 Drones flying with a broadcast module will be required to fly under Part 107 VLOS rules. The broadcast module was made with Bluetooth 5 Long Range and can be detected at further distances depending on the surroundings.

What do you think about the Holy Stone RID module? It's only $89

At 2:20 in the video you state that this device weighs 40 ounces. That's 2.5 pounds! Are you sure it isn't 40 grams?

Been waiting since July for my modules, I am now just asking for a refund. Absolutely ridiculous

Not affordable! And it’s huge.

Lol not affordable yet distribution. Here's why I say this; go to and look at their toy drones that are above the weight limit for you have to register. Those drones have to be register meaning have to have remote id. So who will purchase a drone for their kid for a birthday or Christmas present which is for $50 and then have to purchase a $100+ module? I would say 80% to 90% won't be because it's a toy drone that the kids will crash. What if the they crash in a lake is the company going to give a free replacement without sending the module back? Lol see doesn't make since.

You can't sell a new drone over 250g in the US unless it has RID built in, so not sure how your comment applies. They won't have to buy the module because the only above 250g drone they can buy would have to already be equipped.

Very expensive FAA punishment...

From what I have seen, Holy Stone has a much cheaper module and is all in one (just the basics that you need). The HS ones are available now. You need to review that one, it is much more affordable.

Remote id came from hell.

As a safe recreational pilot, my response to RID will always be non-compliance. 17 rogue flights and counting….

I know that my DJI Mini One is exempt when used for recreational purposes and not adding weight to exceed 250 grams. I do have several other drones including a Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom and I also realize if I would need to purchase at least one RID if DJI doesn’t come up with a FAA approved fix to these drones. In this case I would only have to purchase one RID and be able to swap it between the two Mavic 2’s. If I get my Part 107 and start flying commercially I be would forced to purchase one for every drone I fly commercially. I would be the only person flying and can only fly one drone at a time. It is in my opinion, the FAA should allow swapping RID modules for Part 107 unless more than one of your business drones are in the air at the same time. I feel that the FAA is imposing more requirements than needed and having to have an RID for drones not in the air is nothing less than imposing a business tax. Maybe I should just fly recreationally and give my photos away free.
