well since their motors can rev to such high RPM gears are mostly unnecessary, but some take advantage of gearing still, the Taycan for example

Yet they all still break down more then cars that run off engines.

Well, but would seem like you are correct about being less complicated. But they might actually be more complicated in a different way, i.e. battery technology like @10shot9miss suggested. All current statistics reveal that EV's are way more aped to fail than I.C.E. cars.

Very reliable up to first 48,000 miles with program maintenance. From 48K to 60K miles, there is enhanced maintenance to maintain reliability. After 60K maintenance is more intensive as parts wear out. At this point somewhere between 60K and 90K this Tran has to be rebuilt or replaced. As with all automotive from Europe , logged maintenance is key. Onboard ECU communicates with maintenance and vehicle computer as to status of transmission. The amount of parts is diabolically large. From large to small. It's insane. Yet one highly trained technician can assemble it and disassemble it. At ZF factory each one is hand assembled from a kit.

@@humorss I am not. But between my mother's 2003 S-Type, my BMWs(2011 335iX, 2013 135IM, 2016 Z4 30iSdrive,) and my current Alfas( 2019 Alfa Guilia Ti Sport, and 2022 Alfa Gulia Veloce) I have had a lot of exposure to ZF HP8 family. In real world few ZFHP8 are 'rebuild'. If it's warranty, they just intall new unit. If unit is older then 6 years and still works and has been through all maintenance and reasonable usage, then that unit is going to last a long time. But roughly treated units fail often. They don't forgive, and time does not heal wounds.
