A lot of the time, it's only the "meta" in the hands of an expert. In the hands of an amateur, the very same class/build may end up being merely average, or even sub-par. People who religiously chase the "meta" without the skills to back it up are absolute clowns. These are the types of people who fall for NFT and crypto scams.

@@Orih9 sch sge is awful. look at dsr, only a few teams could clear on patch because of how much more work it was p6 onwards. it can be comfy at times but it is also extremely limiting not having a macrocosmos or star to full heal the party on demand. sure week 16 it doesn't matter but week1 min ilvl or blind prog savage these weaknesses are much more pronounced without gear to bail you out.

I think Mr. Happy had a really funny term for this called “Trickle Down Raidonomics” where the meta at the highest-end world race week one clears has an effect on the perception of a job’s performance at all levels of content. Hell, I’ve heard of jobs being excluded from Barbariccia EX which is just silly.

excluding MCH makes sense from a DPS perspective. this guy is around 10k RDPS at a 99 parse, meanwhile BRD and DNC easily dish out more with less effort, the problem is the devs being lazy as fuck with MCH, it's been in a bad spot since Shadowbringers DPS wise, even SB basically.

@@DarkDyllon while its true that MCH needs work its nowhere near as bad as people make it up to be, mch in shb was perfectly fine and its damage was pretty good in spite off its lack of buffs, it was like blm and sam where their own damage was good enough to off set the fact they didnt had buffs however, buffs are only good if the party you are on with can actually play properly, and a lot of people have absolutely no clue what they are doing, people that blame comp instead of their own play, that dont wanna learn or a millon other reasons any comp can clear any fight, the only time that was up in the air was when P8S released due to the balance issues, but aside from that, people have been able to clear any content with any comps, they just have to be good enough.

It's wrong on every perceivable level.

It's even funnier because P5S was easily clearable week 1 without a meta setup anyway, let alone week 15 due to the laughable DPS check. Ran double casters in my static, still managed a casual prog clear week 1. The only Savage that gave difficulty for a sub-meta on DPS check rather than a "don't die check" was P8S.

no world first will ever go with min ilevel. in fact, you still see people going with LESS ilevel than world firsts

For reclears yesterday our static got a fill from an 85 parse SAM. Dude was garbage. Many wipes with that orange parser. Didn't Arms length knockbacks, died a lot, and insisted on speedkill strats in a reclear party. So we got a clear first pull with a grey parse RPR. It was clean, and we barely had to tell that guy anything too.

Subpar Machinist helped me get my first Savage Clear. We already had a DNC, subpar took M1 mechanics, did a heck ton of damage and had a cool glam.

We call that being humble/ self depreciating. Some of the good lads or madlads of this game kind of just... don't really view themselves as above others, they just like doing these things.

My first clear was with a mch in a party.

This was tier 1 but MCH was similarly underpowered at the time and I managed to clear P1-3S week 1 and P4S week 2 on MCH with purple parses when almost every other ranged main in week 1-2 groups was running Bard. Our comp wasn't ideal and beating enrage on 3 and 4 was a bit rough but we managed. I could have switched to Bard because it was more meta but I was a hell of a lot more comfortable on MCH and would not have performed as well on Bard. I also cleared TEA on MCH back in Shadowbringers, though it arguably wasn't as undertuned back then. The content can be cleared on any job, period. Your team will always be the strongest when people are playing the jobs they're most comfortable with, not when they're attempting to play a job they're not good at just because it's meta.

As someone who's a near permanent grey parser, I can confirm at week 15 it's damn near impossible to hit p5s enrage, I cleared with 3 of us getting zero parse😂

I havent been able to do the latest savage tiers cause my internets is currently to shit to play, but when I was a savage raider I would always join clear parties when I was bored mid week and looking for things to do. I loved helping the guys who had a tougher time learn the mechanics right, and I hope they paid it forward after I left.

Machinist has been the highest aDPS physical ranged job by a large margin for all of Endwalker. The reason it has a bad reputation is because it doesn't have bard and dancer's party damage buffs and is way behind black mage and the melee DPS jobs in aDPS.

2 weeks later, and you'll probably have a leg up on all the meta slaves who are now looking at today's patch notes and realizing "oh, right, it's better now"

This is actually really sad; I mean it is week 15, 6.3 is dropping in less than 3 weeks and as far as raiders are concerned the raid season is over. I mean how can they be hard stuck on P5S at week 15 unless they have a problem with the Devour or Ruby 5? I mean the hardcore raiders cleared it on day one in only 2 to 3 hours. Meanwhile, the midcore raiders had it cleared by the end of Saturday the week it was added. While the causal raiders had cleared it by the end of week 6. As far as the hardcore raiders are concerned, raiding season ended 3 weeks ago when they had finished getting their gear to 631 with them switching over to clearing old Ultimates if they had not already done so currently. Meanwhile the midcore raiders finished gearing last week and swapped to focusing on moogle tome farming or PvP series. Right now everyone is farming moogle tomes and doing their series before both are removed in 6.3, even players who already have all the stuff on the list because they have been playing the game for 4+ years are still doing it for the maps and MGP. The only people queuing in Party Finder for Savage P5S to P8S right now are either existing raiders helping out new players who hit 90 to get geared who they're friends with and thus carrying them while teaching them, casuals, raiders gearing their other jobs and hardcore parser obsessed elitists who have full 631 gear trying to see if they can push their damage to the limits and see if they can overwhelm the boss and skip mechanics and clear in record times before the Echo is added in 6.3 and it no longer feels like they beat it with their gear and skill alone. Meanwhile, these guys are hard stuck, they should shut up, grow up and get a reality check that they suck and they should listen to any advice they get and be happy with any help that is offered by a bored pro gamer with a based ironic name that is Subpar Machinist.

Zepla is right, anyone serious about raiding either has clear the whole tier and got their BiS or they moved on to the last fight lol

I love that dancer headspace. Everything lines up perfectly and naturally when we’re good and with the balance, there’s enough structure for it to feel natural. But the issue is most people approach savage casually, like it’s just hard work and patience instead of skill and luck. I still want to block people from joining as white mage though. Everyone’s so horny to do big numbers that a low dps healer just looks bad. Even though someone else’s big number is clearly compensating.

Doing some random PF the other day, we were short on one folk since a few DPS rage quit after second wipe (also they were the ones collecting stamps by failing all mechanics). Someone said they could ask a friend to join. Which he did. A humble SMN lvl634. Everybody just wanted to cry in shame how easy that PF become afterwards.

Honestly discussing buff and mitigation alignment is something that does sometimes happen in PF clear parties. Usually only to the point of "we'll delay n-th buff window by m seconds" and then people are expected to know their standard rotation and when the buffs are used in them

This was brought to my attention by FCs main raider. They are a MCH with 3 weapons, and explicitly said "I can tell you for certain, that this guy with anything but 'subpar' ". I couldn’t stop laughing 😂

It’s one of the reasons I quit earlier MMOs like FFXi. I would constantly be ignored for groups because of the class I liked. Didn’t matter how geared I was.

Virgin Clown hardstuck at p5s in week 15: "But Machinist isn't meta! Change jobs or I kick!" Me, a casual duty roulette enjoyer: "HAHAHAHAHA! HEATBLAST GO *BRRRRRRRRR* !"

That roast at the end was god tier.

if it was a parse run i would sort of get it but a clear run he should be grateful people still join to try and help him clear people doing reclears usually avoid clear parties cause they dont want to waste time tbh i hope he never clears

This is why I kind of evaluate folks based on experience and, if possible, if they've done Ultimates. He'd get a damn spot if he's a Quad Legend - that's a level of good I'd be happy to have around. That's a person who knows what they're doing.

I got my first clear of P5S last night. Have been wanting to do Savage for sometime but was a bit scared to do it but this week I decided to give it a go. We had a machinist in the party and that person had the highest dps. I think I was the only one who hadn’t cleared before and my damage was not that good but now I have something to work on. It was super fun and I regret waiting so long with trying Savage out!

Truly you never know who you might get out of the PF. Last tier my first static was stuck on P3S for the better part of 2 months, we had to get a fill for one of our melee and the #4 samurai parser (at the time) descended upon us and carried us to our first clear. That was a magical moment for sure.

I ignore those graphs because I decided if I'm going to play a game espically and mmo I am going to play something that I enjoy to play.

Mch has been my main since hw. Even with the old reload mechanics and heated barrels. Haven't had many problems in savage content.

It's interesting, when you mentioned the peak dps, I also agreed that yes it doesn't matter, it's the median that gives a better picture, so I went and check and was surprised the median mch was highier then the median dnc. I guess P5S just has something that really trips up the median dnc. I looked at all the fights individually and it looks like the fights with down time, especially during a 2 min window really kills dnc and bard dps, otherwise a fight like P6S shows the expected picture where the median mch is bottom dps, personally I just think giving mch a unique utility tool would really help them shine without touching damage numbers because unlike the casters where blm has no res but highiest dps, for range mch has no unique party utility and depending on the fight they also have bottom dps granted for the fights where dnc and bard struggle, it's simply a question of limning up buff windows properly to counter act that.

Another thing I don't think people understand especially about mch is how shallow their damage range is. The difference between, for example, a bad mch and a great MCH is much less than a bad Black mage vs a really good blackmage. Meta means nothing in FFXIV, it's all about the skill of the player.

People like the mch in this are awesome I love when people who are good come back and try to help

I personally don't do things like Ultimates, Savage Raids or even Extremes (don't have the interest nor the time) and while I may have gripes with MCH that I would like to see changed (Hyper Charge being on a timer messing up people with high ping; Hyper Charge AoE skill not recharging OGCDs like the single target skill does; etc), I am honestly getting really tired of seeing people be kicked from parties just because they play a specific class.

God imagine being hardstuck at P5S this late in the tier and kickng someone thats cleared at all.

that was at a time when DNC was the weakest class and needed a serious buff, tanks and even all healers did higher dps. Yall were stuck at like 4% enrage for 3-4 weeks and you got mad at members for clearing outside of the static when yall werent going to raid again that week which would of helped the team. Sometimes as a raid lead you have to make decisions based on what would be the best for the group and you didn't want do that for the sake of pride. I hope one day we can put what happened behind us, until then my old friend.

i find these so funny. did PF quit a few times, more than once i was told to switch to something else then SMN, sure can do, BLM? DNC? or something else. wipes again and again because both healers die and refuse to learn or listen. it's funny bc the only fight with a tight dps check is p8 (and that was early on, not with current gear). as long as you aren't dying 12 times and are pressing more than 3 buttons a minute you will pass the p5s dps check, even in week 1 gear, let alone week 15

I managed to re-clear p5S when my audio was messed up after we started, I couldn't hear callouts. Imo dmg is the least of worries when it comes to P5S cuz so much can kill party members if one person messes up, getting through devour was my biggest personal hurdle when progging.

got to 1% enrage on P7S last night with my static. "We're so close to clearing, let's pull again, less mistakes more uptime ya-da-ya-da-ya-da" Our DNC " Oh, we didn't have dance partner for that pull, my bad guys..." personally none of the savage fights warrant such a focus on the meta setup of jobs unless you're trying to compete for fastest/first clear.

Its funny, because I created a braindead strat for NA1/2 in p8s that literally makes it so ranged dont have to really move in the event of a black mage, as well as melee not even needing to worry about the mech at all cus they just plant and watch their hotbars to solve both fire and ice, and the healers being in range for all aoe heals no matter the healer comp. YET for some, unGODLY reason partyfinder wants to make things harder on everyone with melee swaps and what not, when its not even necessary. but they just latch onto the first thing they start to prog with as un-optimal as it is and go with that. and because my static here on the holidays is always having a member absent for family things, we 'have' to do the partyfinder way because these idiots can not comprehend doing something easier after they developed the muscle memory of fuckery.

3:20 I've cleared it with a DPS DCing at devour and not coming back... Meaning you only get 1 chest...

All you need is, a party that is not comprised of crayon eaters and glue sniffers, that's all. You don't need giga chads, or Yoshi-P himself, to join your party, to help. Savage raids are challenging, but not that hard.

I'm still in Heavensward, so by the time I even get to this raid the next expansion is probably gonna be out, but, as someone who's really starting to jam with MCH, this is just oof man

I started with (and still main) BRD during the Shadowbringers era and ngl seeing all the negativity surrounding the job at the time was pretty unnverving even if it wasn't directly aimed at me

Me the DRG who’s just happy to have Blue numbers in savage looking at people who metacomp in heir way out of clears. Like seriously, a clear is a clear and last month 4 gigachads who already had their weekly clears helped give me my P8S clear (1 chest, one rando left the party just before it finished forming to find a late week 2 chest clear party 🤡) and I’m thankful everyday for people like Subpar Machinist.

My group is turbo casual, we raid between 2 and 4 hours a week and the majority does single digit percentile parses and we cleared with a MCH on week 6. Unless you aim for week 1-2 clear, you don't need a specific job composition to get there. Gear will offset the lack of damage. And if it doesn't, it is sad to say, but at that point the job itself is not the issue.

I hope one day I can amass a group of friends and do all the older Extreme and Savage content synced. just for fun. maybe use that experience to learn how to be a good team member for the new Extreme/Savage content.

Took a break from the game before Endwalker came out and just came back, almost finished with the MSQ. I haven't done any raids of current tier before but would love to, though my social anxiety Is keeping me from trying It. Hopefully I'll be able to give a raid tier a try too someday, atleast the game has plenty of other things to do In the meantime.

Often time people who are too focused on their team mates performance and choices don't spend nearly enough attention focusing on what the enemy or they themselves are doing.

The only thing that MCH annoys me with is the gcd problem for the heat gauge abilities. Other than that, all the classes are pretty balanced for an mmo

Ive never had tgis happen to me and I've been doing pf raids since 7 years. I flex all jobs, the obly problem that occurs is when there is 2 or more of the same job and even then most people don't really care.

This is the thing that made me stop playing mutiplayer as a whole. I had many times where people would kick me cause I was not meta enough in their eyes, I also had pv messages from said people cursing me too.

My friends and I doing alt jobs don't mind carrying people as long as they aren't toxic. I remember one time I was playing Drk back in p2s (I usually play dps), so I wasn't 100% on my mitigation and the tank swaps but the other tank was managing and we only died a few times but got like...75% of the way through the fight. Some dude RAGES and starts complaining at everyone about how "he deserved people to be on their main jobs" and how people on "alt jobs" were running down his clear parties. He ragequit. We got another person, cleared the next pull and got a couple of people their first clears. This was like week 16. Same energy as this guy.

I cleared P5S week 1 and week 2. Started progging P6S but my internet went to shit and I stopped raiding since. Scared to hop back into PF to start again :')

MCH is better than DNC or BRD for many PF groups. MCH pulls far ahead of the other phys ranged if the buff alignment and parse percentiles are low.

I was thinking of trying Savage... now I'm not so sure.

This kind of shit always happen to games with a meta, and it's always funny and sad that it happens. Something(here,MCH) being viable but just being a little weaker than the other options(the other phys ranged) at the highest level of play _will_ make some people interpret it wrongly and think that it is the absolute worst and should not be used, even though said thing is still viable regardless. That's being a slave to the meta out of pride for you.

Yea I don't play the meta and have main as machinist since HW

MainRule: If you can do mechs perfectly (0deaths, max uptime), and you still see enrage... THEN!!! DPS is a problem. If you're dying to devour/puddles/AnyMech, that's not a DPS problem.

I still have not found the bravery to jump into savage tier content because of exactly this type of shit. I know I am not good, and will take time for me to get better, but the idea of having to tough it out with people who have no interest in getting better and will just blame me for everything...yeesh

99% of the player base is not like this. Just make sure you’re at least somewhat prepared by checking out some guides, join practice parties and you will be more than fine. ❤

You should still try, idk why but that PF leader was high or something expecting a meta comp when everyone is geared at week 15 with lunar tome stone atleast. most of the people you go with into PFs are polite and kind, especially with the *Practice* tag on the fights. PFs will expect wipes, mistakes and other stuff, hell I literallly said im new on the when the Abbysos raids come out didnt clear P5S the first week but cleared on the next and I had a great time. Yeah there are some bad apples like people leaving on a 3rd wipe when its fresh prog which is pretty weird the only thing I can say is be polite in what you chat and you can leave anytime no ones holding you back if youre not having a good time or block people if there are some bad apples. You could start off with extreme trials like what I did, at the start of this year and I easy my way into savage cuz I wanted more of the challenging fights (and nice gear too). Right now I main bard, but been clearing and practicing on my dragoon when I reclear because I find it fun also I hate waiting for PFs honestly the most tiring/stressful part imo, getting a party to fill XD

This is more an "end of tier" thing where the trash comes out of the woodworks to try to get their clears because they spent the rest of the time wiping their PF parties and blaming everyone else. The concentration of those kinds of people get higher as most of the mid and hardcore raiders are done reclears outside of helping new raiders prog/clear. For the most part if you join learning parties you shouldn't encounter anything like this. This is probably one of the best tiers to get into since outside of P4S and P8S most of the savages are more mechanic checks than DPS checks. And P1S is only Extreme level difficulty, easy enough to carry a fresh/blind prog newbie through in one lockout with callouts. Honestly the 6.2 extreme felt about as difficult as P1S.

How about actually giving it a shot and finding out first hand....clearly already came to conclusions based off conjecture...that kind of thinking will always stop you from trying it out.... Pf can suck sure but....all my main groups of friends come from it so...

As long as u do the balance opener, dont drift unless its something like p7s, or HC where we roll 1-3 gcd depending, thats all i care about. Hell in fact i honestly prefer WHM over astro because stronger oh shit and less buffs to worry about

Its funny too because if you look at the absolute middle of the pack players, MCH actually very slightly edges out both DNC and BRD and brings slightly higher rdps. The lower you go in parses, far as I can tell, the higher MCH is in comparison. It's literally only like the 90 and above parses where MCH falls, very slightly, behind. And I'm willing to be absolute 0% of players still stuck on p5s after months of prog can get above a 5% parse let alone 90%. So MCH would actually be their best bet for overall rdps.

Man it took me a month In PF to finally clear O7S when that was new lol

I don't do Savage level raids because 1.) I'm not interested in them and 2.) I cannot commit to a static due to my ever changing shifts at work. I experienced too much of this kind of single mindedness in WoW which is what eventually killed the game for me as you were effectively told you can't play your game the way you want to and had to be the same as everyone else.
