I watch this video and I realize something: Fifty years ago, to learn this man's wisdom, I would have had to travel to Japan, make my way to Sogen-ji zen monastery, and probably learn Japanese in order to understand well enough to learn. Today? This good man sits in front of a camera and, thanks to the Internet, KZread and closed-captioned translation, the whole world can learn from him. New technology and old wisdom. Heck of a combination, isn't it?

True peace comes from God alone through His Son Yeshua (Jesus Christ). Simply say and believe ..Yeshua, Lord Jesus Christ, forgive me of my sins, wash me clean. I accept you as saviour, restore my life, help me. I believe you rose from the dead. Choose righteousness

If you have a knee problem , do not cross your knees. If you have a lower back problem, do not sit. The best position for meditation is a comfortable one. So, if you need to lie down, then lie down and meditate. You can also meditate while walking. Be flexible not rigid.

Shunryu Suzuki said it best - the position of the body is not the point. He said that even lying flat in bed one can reach the marrow of Zen. For my part, I don’t know how people force themselves to sit lotus when their knees/hips/ankles genuinely hurt severely. That surely damages their joints. Not everyone can easily sit lotus and shouldn’t be chastised or told they can’t sit zazen correctly unless they sit lotus.

I've practiced Zen for 43 years, and still offer my appreciations to the Roshi (a title meaning "teacher,") for giving his to offer this video. it is an excellent introduction (and corrective reminder for the experienced) of the fundamentals of Zen meditation.
