Zeina Daccache is a director, therapist and founder of “Catharsis”, the Lebanese Center for Drama Therapy. For 14 years she has worked with inmates in various prisons and domestic workers to bring attention to the drastic need for reform in Lebanon.
Her work led to the creation of several laws to improve their (and our) quality of life.
In this Sarde, we spoke about the following:
- How does Drama therapy affect prisoners
- Working with forgotten mentally ill inmates
- Inside the 2011 intifada of prisons in Lebanon
- How foreign domestic workers fell in love “illegally”
- The gray area between self-defense, revenge and justice
- Why do the Lebanese think so highly of themselves?
- How Zeina pushed for several laws to be enacted applied
Sarde (noun), [Sa-r-de]: A colloquial term used in the Middle East to describe the act of letting go & kicking off a stream of consciousness and a rambling narrative.
The Sarde After Dinner Podcast is a free space based out of the heart of Beirut, Lebanon, where Médéa Azouri & Mouin Jaber discuss a wide range of topics (usually) held behind closed doors in an open and simple way with guests from all walks of life.

I met Zeina at a Compassion Summit for international students in Jordan. She most definitely is a Lebanese national treasure and should be supported in every way to continue her work. Equally, I appreciate as a longtime Canadian working and living in the Middle East that she occasionally trains globally. I love EVERYTHING she does and stands for. The world is made better by Zeina and yourselves - we need to hear these stories, testimonials and feel this human connection. It gives heart to me and I'm sure it gives heart to many who are suffering their own intolerable circumstances. So, thank you for this fantastic update on what Zeina has done and is currently doing. As a drama teacher, counselor, coach and popular theatre practitioner, this was riveting. I will be sharing it with my students. Thank you for the entire conversation and the incredible questions and responses. Wonderful. Keep going!

One of the most amazing episode, if not the Best, not only because of the content but because of the influence and passion of change, Zeina has. She should be One of the 100 influencers, Leaders and Inspires women in our Arab and International World. Being for the last 25 years outside Lebanon, I never heard about your guest until today. I have already downloaded “12 Angry Men” which will reflect, for sure, your Guest “Wind of Change “. A humble request to Media and Mouin if possible to ask their guest for their Social Media platform to follow for each episodes from now on; thanks and Keep Walking Guys 👍 I really enjoy your Sarde 🤗 waiting for Sundays to watch you ; Bon Courage!!

I cant believe how amazing this women is. I am a psychoanalysis student who was recently introduced to drama therapy and this was the nail in the coffin for me. Zeina inspired me so much to pursue this path and I really hope she feels fulfilled with all that she has done because i believe her work has impacted so many individuals in a beautiful way. Wow, I’m mindblown by this passionate authentic women.

i had no idea that Zeina did so much for lebanese society, these things should be taught in schools so every generation knows how she and (im sure many others) worked relentlessly to change the horrible living conditions of other poeple in lebanon without any profit. Thank you so much Zeina and great podcast- there is indeed hope knowing that people likeyou still exist in the world.

Zeina you are just amazing and what you did and still doing is just great: it is so beautiful when you grow and evolve by allowing for the other in front to evolve with you💓! Thank you Sarde team for this wonderful episode👍🙏

I'm in pieces. I can't stop crying, Zeina is a beautiful soul in a ver ugly world. The question they should have asked her: How does she take care of HERSELF! She needs to be well, to stay well to do the incredible work she does. I am in awe of her. Just awesomeness incarnated.

I discovered sarde after dinner through one of your reels about this interview... I'm so happy that I got to watch this sarde, it's the best thing I've watched in a long while and "I LOVE it" is an understatement! Keep it up Medea and Mouin 😍
