Dr. Atallah's commentaries were amazing! I learned so many new and important terms in Arabic as well, it's important to normalise this sort of talk but at least having the language available to express it. There are still many terms that are either old-fashioned or non-existent related to sex in Arabic (like calling someone لوطي if they're gay instead of مثليّ, it's absurd). I love what you said Mouin about men feeling their masculinity is being attacked, therefore having a violent/visceral reaction to certain things such as men being gay. It is very true and is backed up by so many examples across time. When men feel their masculinity is being threatened, they often react violently, or at least engage in verbal abuse. Just a bit of feedback if I may, I understand that a podcast is a free-flowing conversation and it's the very nature of a سردة to speak that way as well, but I would be careful interrupting the women speaking for extended periods of time since men interrupting women is still a problem that needs to be addressed in every society :)

Mueen and Medea, it is very clear that you both lack a lot in terms of your understanding of the dynamics of the Arab region. Religion and culture play a huge rule on our societies. When you talk about 'taboos', you are always referring to them as stemming from ignorance or backwardness of our societies. However we have to differentiate between issues. Some issues are considered as clear sins by religion like sex outside marriage and homosexuality. Are you trying to normalize these in Arab societies? If so, let me tell you that you won't succeed because the majority of people and the laws which are stemming from religion are all against these sins. If you don't believe these are sins its your call. You might be an atheist after all. But don't expect that the Arab region will adopt your thinking because this is not what modernity is about. We can develop and modernize as societies without giving up our religious values. Other 'taboos' are more cultural. Like for example women in Saudi Arabia were not allowed to drive and now they can. That was not against religion but was a cultural thing specific to Saudi Arabia because in other Arab countries women were free to drive. Cultural topics can be discussed and can change with time. Even some religious understanding of certain topics could change with time but not issues which are very clearly mentioned in the Quoran or the sayings of Prophet Mohamad like adultery and homosexuality. By the way, if you study the life of the Prophet Mohamad you will learn that early Muslims used to talk about sexuality and that Islam talks a lot about sexuality. I believe you need to host someone knowledgeable about this topic and not just get people who agree with your viewpoint so this doesn't become like an echo chamber like someone else has rightly commented. By the way, other podcasts are also discussing sexuality in the Arab world but within the accepted norms of our region and they are proving to be very successful. Finally, your guests talked about transgender transitioning although this is not an expert in this field and she was just repeating information any of us could have read online. Moreover, this is hugely debated now in the west.
