Zebco Bullet Handle Bearing Problem Fixed!

Спорт

How to fix a problem with the handle bearing getting too tight. Plus, I go through two other issues you may have all had with the Zebco Bullet. The rubber button cracking and the spinner head getting a groove in it.

    It is not just braided line that cuts the groove at the line pickup pegs. I use ONLY monofilament and even that cuts into the far too soft metal. A replacement costs over $40. This is a huge weakness in the Bullet reel.

    I would agree with you. The metal for the spinner should have been much harder.

    my spinner cap has slight grooves starting to cut in from the braid but i just serviced it and changed the braid and one of my pick up pins was a little tight so i oiled them both good and twisted them round and round and they work fine now but it could be a problem in the future like the spinner cap and braid but i'll deal with it when the time comes , my omega spinner caps don't have grooves wore in them but i think i use the bullet more so that might be why , even my platinum spinner cap looks good i think its as good as the omega reals just my opinion , thanks for the great videos i learn a lot

    Braid tends to cut into the spinners more. The spinner for a bullet is about $40 with shipping. Pricey!

    Matthew, I am on a quest to try all the modern top-rated reels. I'm pretty much a Zebco/Johnson user and I have sourced your videos often when rebuilding some oldies. Recently I purchased a ZO3 pro and I love it. Stivers rebuilt on of my Abu170's for me. Thats two. Next I want to get a Daiwa GC100 or GC120. My normal fishing is for panfish and Bass along with the occasional 5-6 lb Catfish, very much like how you fish but lighter fish all around. Had some arthritis issues. Which real would you recommend for both convenience and for dependability.

    If you mainly fish pan fish the GC 100 would be great. The 120 would handle some cats.

    You are welcome. If you want speed when reeling go with the Bullet. For example, if you need speed for bass fishing, casting lures or cranks. But if you are shore fishing you may like the Omega Pro best. I have a ZO2 and several ZO3s.

    on my bullet and omega's i had to put lock tight on all of the handle nut because they kept backing out and coming off and i lost a cap on one of my omegas but i noticed the nut wouldn't stay tight when i was fishing and i guess i acted hastily and put locktight on the nut to the shaft then put nut cap back on but i do light maintenance on my reels i still don't have a lot of faith in my ability to disasemble these reels and get them put back together properly i really wish i could send them to you

    I don't think it would hurt to put a light weight thread lock on the handle nut. I just don't have much time to do professional maintenance. Sometimes I will for a friend.

    Contact Zebco.com and send them an email or call them. They generally send you a new part. You may need to ask them to email you a schematic so you have the part number you need. If yours is the same as mine, it is a Thumb Button AN109-01

    Shouldn’t the brass bushing be moved to the other side as well… to support the crank?

  • @OutFishing13Matthew

    @OutFishing13Matthew

    3 жыл бұрын

    That is a really great observation! You are talking about the brass part that screws in on the gear side of the crank. So I took a minute to review that. That brass part isn't really a bushing and doesn't engage with the handle in any way. In the schematics it is part #17 (AN087_01 Bearing Retainer.) That part used to tighten the outer bearing race against the main gear to adjust the gear lash. It should not be moved to the other side when you change handles. If you did, the gear lash would be really bad and the reel may not function.

    One of my Bullet’s when I’m slowly reeling in the handle will stop occasionally as if it’s catching on something. I can continue reeling in but it’s just a little annoying. And it won’t do it consistently. Just every once in awhile. Is it possibly just dirt inside? Can you just dissemble these and rinse them out with water to remove any dirt build up or would that do more harm than good?

  • @OutFishing13Matthew

    @OutFishing13Matthew

    2 жыл бұрын

    Is it a new bullet? It may be the metal button shield on the inside getting in the way. I doubt it is dirt. Here is another possibility. Did you put new line on it? It is possible you put to much line on it. Take off 30 to 40 feet of line and try that.

    You may need to contact Zebco and explain the problem. I have seen and heard of Bullets where the spinner head assembly was torqued on to tight at the factory. If that is the case they will replace it. If you cannot get the spinner head off, the reel cannot be serviced. I have personally had one replaced.
