I got hooked on Zatoichi several years ago. Bought the box set. Truly a Japanese phenomenon.

OMG...this made me bawl...when she gave her horse to zatoichi. wow, what a scene!

yeah, if he ever had a chance to have a wife, he should’ve taken her. She was lovely God that was heartbreaking. I agree with you man it’s so amazing that there are people in Japan with such deep insight he said something to the effect of go by the feelings of your heart.. but yet during the war, the Japanese war, vicious evil, and cruel, how can such a beautiful culture filled with beautiful philosophy become so evil I guess it might be something to do with their conformist attitude whoever the leader is the he good or be he evil they will follow so if the leaders in the evil bastard, they will go along with it wholeheartedly. If he’s a good guy, he’ll probably go with go along with him wholeheartedly a very interesting society a very xenophobic society, but they have pearls of wisdom. Mr. Katsu was a genius and deep philosopher, the Earth and myself are a better place for humanity. Thanks to his insights.

Shintaro Katsu is without a doubt one of my all time favorite Japanese actors He also played in alot of other good roles like Hoodlum Priest, Hanzo The Razor, Mute Samurai etc. But Zatoichi remains my favorite Shintaro Katsu role
