Zante 2024 - Discovering Zante's Hidden Treasures

In episode 6, we aim to uncover some of the islands hidden gems.
First, we drive to the middle of island to look at Agio Nikolaos in the sleepy village of Ano Gerakari. Here, we give a brief history into why St. Nicholas is so revered in Greece, before heading for some delicious Cheese Pies at the neighbouring taverna, with some stunning views.
Our next stop towards Xigia Beach. Only 2 minutes form the main car park is the Levante craft beer microbrewery. Inside, we get to look around and see how the beer is brewed here and get to sample one of the beers being bottled at the time.
We then have an unexpected stop at the Monastery of Spiliotissa, where the image of the Virgin Mary was discovered. This is also a live convent, so is inhabited by nuns.
As some bad weather sets in, we head to our last stop at the Botega Cafe/Museum in the small sleepy village of Orthonies. We get to smaple some of the cafe's home made cake with a warm drink. This is a unique place, as it also has a free museum, which offers an insight into how Zakynthians used to live, work, eat and sleep in a bygone era.

Maybe in about 3 weeks time I think. Got another restaurant one to get through and there's already another one due next week. Yeah, about 3 weeks I'd say.

Friendly advice when entering a church or a monastery. You must be dressed conservative, no shorts or shoulders showing. Best thing to do is have a wrap with you and wear it like a skirt and a jacket. We need to respect the churches rules. Sometimes they let it go but it shows respect from us the tourist. Cheers

Yes and thank you, we are aware of this. However we just stumbled across this place and did not expect it to be what it was. We even said beforehand but the nun said it wasn't a problem so we wouldn't have done it otherwise.
