ZackGrooves Hears Architects For The First Time
ZackGrooves is a KZreadr, jazz drummer, and chops master.
He'd never call himself a rock or metal player - and that's exactly why we dared him to play "Doomsday" by modern metal/rock band, Architects.
Zack has never heard the song, let alone the band. We gave him the drumless track and asked him to come up with a drum part.
He said it's like nothing he's ever played. But his interpretation is refreshing and even gets surprisingly close to Dan Searle's original parts at times. From syncopated grooves to ghost notes and cool linear patterns, Zack made the tune his own.

He's freestyling like a maniac, it is actually really impressive. The original has such a specific rhythm, with a bunch of changes that really emphasize the flow of the song. At the second part before the bridge it was spot on (different, but excellent). I can't believe how well he managed himself through the song. The remarks at the end were really on point: Loud, impressive and consistant. Thanks for giving us this excellent version and taking the effort to make it uniquely yours!

The drum part in Doomsday has kinda always sounded to me like the rhythms of different kinds of guns (which I haven't researched if that was on purpose but it'd make sense for Doomsday) because they're different at parts of the song but so specific and exact/precise. I love his take as well. Never heard "guns" but he was just going at it and all the solos he did were really amazing.

I've got mixed opinions on this: To be clear, Love Zack, love this take - but we have to consider the practicality of ghosting all over the place live at a Metal concert. Would it cut through? Maybe. Maybe not. To agree with the point - doubling the guitar with the kicks has become a bit of an overused trope in metal. That said, One and Bleed are hills I will quite happily die on. To end - not hating Zack or this version - just saying that all that nuance and subtlety may not translate to a live performance.

This dude killed it. I love watching these vids, love the different interpretations everyone brings to the songs.
Jazz drum influence in metal is a tale as old as time. It just fits so perfectly. This is incredible
Anyone else love the stank faces every single drummer makes when hearing the original? It's like that recognition and respect all tied into one facial expression. Love this channel!
Love how this just became a Periphery song with Zack's drumming. Beast
This is unquestionably the best series on KZread. Please never stop making them!!!
It's crazy how it literally changes the entire sound of the song, Literally the best drum content on KZread
I love this song so much. In case you didn't know, the song is about a member of the band that passed away young due to cancer. I've also lost a couple friends way too young to cancer so I can barely listen to this song without crying. But it was a pleasure watching you improv drums for the track. Thanks for the great content Zack.

Doomsday was the last song he worked on before he passed…

The fact that the drummer was the brother to the guitarist who passed gives it so much more emotion. They did a service to this song🫡🥹

The same guy that wrote the track Early Grave, coincidentally
I actually prefer his version of the quiet part at 3:50, that hat work is immaculate.

I actually prefer his version overall... I'm kinda over double bass playing the exact riff pattern every song. His groove let it breathe more.

It is fun to hear a different take, but I like the consistancy and tightness of the original. I would say the most important part of this song is actually the drums.
Another really great drummer and another really interesting video. Thanks for all the content, Drumeo.
Killed it!! You know what would be cool? If you got the original band/drummer reacting to peoples first time playing these songs. Be cool to get their thoughts! 🤘🏼

I know he isn't exactly the "interview" or "filming" type, but I'd love to see II reacting to people, like Greyson Nekrutman, playing Sleep Token songs. II is one of my inspirations for drumming, and I loved his hour long interview/playing video here on Drumeo. Would LOVE to see some of these superstar drummers reacting to other drummers playing their parts on songs.
This mfer is unreal. There is so many different grooves by the end of the song... what a machine
Them ghost notes... Damn 🤩 Live earing interpretation of songs I know. It's almost like earing it again for the 1st time ^^
These are amy fave videos from drumeo. Just shows how much the drums can change the feel of a song!
I keep coming back to this, it's fun watching him groove with the original as well.
i always love hearing Zack play with his style over heavier music. it’s so unique. i would love to hear him in a rock or metal band

He played in a band called SLOP back in his hometown, I've got some demos and footy lying around, gonna have to find them tho
those fills was everything, damn he's a beast
That was so rad! You definitely have to do this again!!
These videos really make you appreciate drummers from every genre and style of music.
Zack made it sound natural with single pedal
"You can clearly tell I had no idea what I'm doing." My dude, that groove blew away the original. That made the song so much more interesting. It was amazing.

@@Daniel-vu4qu Don't get me wrong, I like double kicks as much as the next metalhead. But this guy showed how much potential the song had for a more interesting groove than what the original gave us.

@@thefallenmysthe had more groove to it, but if you actually understood the meaning behind this song, you’d understand why it was written to sound like this. Dans twin brother, Tom, the guitarist, was dying of cancer. It’s not suppose to be a groovy upbeat song.

@@Ep0nzGotcha. This was my first time hearing the song at all, so knew nothing about it.
What I'm really enjoying is watching each drummers process of arrangement.
This is hands down my favourite from this series. Amazing.
3:48 absolutely gave me goosebumps, that is so goddamn tight! I've listened to this song probably a few hundred times and this new twist fits perfectly.
I much prefer this to the constant double pedal tbh 🔥
Absolutely amazing! Super impressive. Don’t stop making these videos.
The bridge breakdown with the snare and Tom’s was amazing!!!
Zack is just straight vibes. The best friend I wish I had. His drumming is so smooth and loose. I love it.
As a person who has never heard this song either, Zack did pretty awesome! Loved his grooves
That was a great take. Such a tricky piece of music, and such a genre-hop.
This is awesome! Such great feel and so technically gifted. Great take on it without double bass. Very musical drummer adding melody with his drumming in parts!
3:47 this part is so fucking insane dude. great work!
I LOVED Zack's version! He interpreted it in ways that no one else can! I like this just as much as the original!!!
This sounds great! I have no idea what the original drums sound like, but this fits perfectly.
Love Zack. I am bewildered you guys had him on here. Wild!! This series is GOD.
NGL I thought he improved it. What a good groove.
3:50 dude wtf this is so sick and fits in way better than the original 'nothing'
He absolutely killed the ending. Awesome job! Great use of the stack also
Natural talent. Truly. You can tell he is in his natural element!
“I’m gonna embarrass myself”, but instead he kills it lmao awesome job
Yo can I just say, as someone who loves metal but hasn’t heard this song.. HE KILLED IT.
Bro this dude is phenomenal, please keep having him on. This blew my whole ass mind this morning
This was very fun and you are seriously talented. Good improv
