Greyson Nekrutman Hears Sleep Token For The First Time

Greyson Nekrutman embraced the challenge by immersing himself in the enigmatic rhythm of the anonymous band Sleep Token. Struggling through initial confusion, Greyson embarked on a musical quest to craft his own part after listening to a drumless track.
This wasn't a simple task; "Hypnosis" by Sleep Token is a demanding song. However, in the end, it truly highlighted Greyson's determination and creativity as he navigated this uncharted territory.

I suppose it is subjective but for me but for a lot of players drums don't sound good when players really wack them. They sound better with control, it can be loud but must be controlled.. The player makes a big difference, often the groove breaks up and sounds bad when really hit hard. A great player can make a drums sound fantastic from quiet to loud but not go outside their ability to keep it sounding good.

@@micb3rd I agree, It's all in context. Sometimes it propels the song by beating the piss outta everything for a bit, But dynamics and note placement IMO are what really makes a drummer a fellow "songwriter" (Whether they get credited is a different story) and an essential element of the whole.

@@ElasticTurtleIt's true. As someone who's drummed basically all genres for the better part of 8 years now, I can confidently say that most songs are actually more interesting than difficult. Of course there are difficult songs in every main genre. However, there are also some subtly difficult parts to songs that are not tough drumming songs but it's those little parts that make you go "Oh that was interesting" or "huh that's kinda tough actually." And more often than not that's in the metal genres that I've had to stop and do those parts my own way.

Damn this kid is a phenom! I can relate to his perfectionism & the frustration in trying the impossible in playing a song he's never heard as written. I love these videos as you learn so much about the process & personality of the drummers when put under this type of fun pressure.

I think Grayson did a great job. His definitely had a more punk type feel to it than the original, but he nailed it.

I really enjoyed that. I love that Greyson cares so much, that's the secret sauce for me here. Yes his playing is amazing and the setup and sound is great, but the thing that will bring me back again is seeing someone try as hard as they can at something they care about. Awesome. He doesn't need to try that hard, he's a famous drummer in his own right in another field. But give him a challenge and he can't help himself!

This one is in the rotation of the episodes that i rewatch. It's this one, The Kill, We're not gonna take it, and i think the new Pneuma one will be in that rotation too. It just amazes me at how similar, but unique each drummer plays their own versions of the song. The new takes on the songs could be just as awesome as the original, and just a little different and still sound like that is the way it could be from the original writting of the song. These people are amazingly gifted, and you can see how that translates into the hard work that they put into their craft. It absolutely blows my mind at how talented these people are. I love this series. Thank's!!
