I personally don’t buy the few years of support and campaigns from fans wanting this cut of the movie because from my understanding,the higher ups at WB don’t really give a shit about zack and did a lot to fuck him around and still is. They did the same with David Ayer,it’s like why even choose these directors if your gonna take all that they did,not give them creative control ,chop up their work into a mess and get confused as to why people didn’t like the movie in the first place. I feel like there’s a lot more to the story of how the Snyder cut came to be especially with the higher ups cause I can’t imagine how all the bs behind the scenes went down that they just randomly decided to do this once and just be rid of Zack for good

I love everything about the film's presentation down to the aspect ratio. There's something very 'golden age of Hollywood' about its appearance.

I would rather watch Snyder's version than the widescreen version anytime.

I have absolutely no problem switching discs mid movie, but really don't like that the discs are stacked.

In the UK we got two 4k discs not stacked we didn’t get the bluray and we never get digital codes.

Yeah. Stacked discs are no fun, worth buying a different 4K case for that. But yeah...the film is almost structured like a mini-series anyway...so it being on two discs in some ways only adds to that experience. Like watching any TV series that is on Blu Ray..each disc only has so many episodes.

The U.K. version isn’t stacked it just doesn’t have the Blu-Rays only the 4K discs.

Warner Bros has been pretty shady with this release, but regardless I'm glad to have ZSJL on 4k. It looks beautiful and, personally, I love the 4:3 ratio. It's very unique for a superhero movie and it's used effectively.

I agree the 4:3 Is perfect for this movie, Zack explained he did it because many shots have upward motion and it captures the comic book slide feeling better. Comics are the opposite of widescreen so I totally get his motive, and it looks wonderful because of it. Also he wanted to show it on IMAX screens which would look beautiful with this ratio. Also they have definitely been shady, my local movie store get one copy on launch and my local BestBuy got zero 4K copies of this and the trilogy. The girl working said she had multiple calls asking for it. And they have the movie trailer as unlisted on WB youtube.

@@Shelboooooo Exactly. Comics are vertical so why shouldn't the movies be 🤷‍♂️ And ya stores were supplied with very few copies and I'm lucky I even got it on Amazon. The trailer is unlisted too which is the weirdest thing ever. I have the link if you or anyone else haven't seen it.

I personally could not get over the vertical black lines , the movie just looked much smaller to me and kinda killed the whole 4k experience.

Regarding the disc switch I don’t really have an issue with it. I just treat it as an “Intermission” to get snacks.

You forgot to mention that it was due to his daughter's passing that was the main reason why he removed himself from the project in hopes to get an extension but Warner screwed him over and let Jos take over. And thank you for the review, you're the go-to person in terms of seeing whether a disc is worth it to buy; will be getting myself a copy.

Sort of. These things are never that cut and dry (I know from experience) and the situation wouldn’t have had the time nor the money to allow a director to come and change the look and feel of a film to their liking, it doesn’t work this way. Rogue One, for instance, was made in exactly the same way, and that is an Evans film. The director who took over Evans altered some of the writing, but completed the project by way of the original intended vision. Shortly after the director left JL, stories were coming out (with evidence and citations) of the studio firing the director due to the test screenings being negative and using the even as an excuse.

@@TheFlash-rh2el I don’t think the rumors of him being fired was true. What I’ve read was that justice league was going to be lighter because critics kept complaining about the dark realistic tones his last few movies had. Unfortunately with the tragic hit that happened to him and his family,WB used that to bring in Weadon. To me it seems like they thought,they had a sure fire hit on their hands cause they had the guy who did two of the avengers movies(that made a lot of money) coming to do a justice league film and pretty probably told him to do whatever he did for the avengers,do it for this one. They should have left him to the batgirl film because the problem is DC is not marvel and it seems like the people at WB didn’t understand that for the longest. The DCEU is not the MCU and will never be. The thing they should have only copied from the MCU was the structure of how they build up the universe and how they connected films. I like the dark realistic tones of the DCEU, it contrast well with the lighter tones of the MCU and also it’s a break from the MCU.

@@dominicarroyo6269After the first test screening of Batman V Superman, the takeaway was that Snyder was why it worked. After the feedback BVS got, Snyder became the issue. It took one screen test for the execs to move on the vision. No filmmaker, especially Zack Snyder, a man who seems to be almost singlehandedly keeping the auteur theory alive in blockbuster cinema. Based on how execs work, in any industry, and the feedback the film series was getting: Snyder was the problem. The vision went, I.E the identity of the film and the filmmaker. That doesn’t come voluntarily, it’s always forced out. The evidence comes from it happening to other blockbuster film they weren’t happy with: Suicide Squad being a major one. It’s just how they work. They’re happy to use a daughter’s suicide as an excuse. I’m also guessing that Snyder was unaware of this until after he was gone, because the Snyder cut is clearly a case of contractual revenge. He has had his cake and eaten it and will not be doing another WB film again. If he was happy, he’d still be there.

WB took advantage of that and used his dead daughter as a PR cover. To butcher JL and make sure it gets released in time to qualify for personal bonuses prior to the AT&T merger . I’d say these films were more colourful than Marvel films too. There are blacks, for one, which Marvel films definitely lack. The black level is more dark grey. Everything looks fuzzy and very digitised. I bought Civil War on 4K and the green screen stood out very harshly. Digital cameras make cgi more noticeable don’t they, so the celluloid use on many of the JL films is always appreciated.

@@TheFlash-rh2el thanks! I swear I felt like I was being crazy when comparing the colors in these films with the ones in the MCU. I don't know why, even with the heavily stylized darker image in Snyder's trilogy, the films popped more than some of the brightest MCU ones like Doctor Strange or Thor Ragnarok. Those felt very desaturated, even when boosting more colorful production values. Its incredibly odd.

@@a7000zo The primary colours usually pop out of complete blackness in Snyder’s films. All live action Disney films are shot and coloured the same way. I’d say the tone of the writing is the thing that is concentrated on more, hence why it’s easy for people to think Disney live action films are more colourful. A brain reflex. They “sound” lighter, which means, in your mind, after everything is said and done and you’re processing the viewing in your mind after you’ve seen the picture, it’ll “feel” like lighter fair, visually, compared to what it was.

I just wish they had given us an option for Cinemascope on the physical release. Yeah 4:3 isn't a big deal in IMAX screens but we don't have them lol

*People who complain about the 1.33:1 / 4:3 aspect ratio sure don't seem to care about the black bars from 2.40:1 movies.* *Furthermore, Zack didn't film a widescreen version, and then chose to deliberately crop the sides of it. It was always 1.33:1 / 4:3.*

then you' d be trimming 20% of the image off. This crap started late80s with the Snow White release. The movie isn' t widescreen in the first place, it's 4:3. All widescreen did was chop all that,art off the top and bottom of the screen

@@toyboy887 Yes, but it's what we're stuck with. Okay so you're getting 20% more info on screen, but you're also getting a smaller screen. We don't have 4:3 tv screens. What the format gives isn't woth the trade for a smaller viewable area.

​@@irish7460 Well its up to you, all tvs would have the option to zoom to fill the screen, thus cutting off the top and bottom (or left and right) of the image to fill your screen. But yes, if Zack has chosen to fill the whole 4:3 area with important content, then you'd be missing that, which is annoying. But think of it this way: he could have released a 16:9 version, without cropping the top and bottom and instead giving you the image to the left and right, but there wouldn't be much point as he clearly wouldn't have any important information there, and it would just take away from the impact he was going for with 4:3. I agree that content that fills the whole TV is ideal, and I certainly wouldn't want every movie to go 4:3, but on the other hand, I don't want film makers to have to compromise their vision over something as silly as "but tvs are this aspect ratio so...". I'm lucky enough to have a big tv now, but when I got my first tv, I went with the smallest size in order to get 1080p just as bluray was coming out. So I very much lamented the 2.4:1 image, but I got used to it and preferred it over a fullscreen zoom. I'm sure their is reason why filmmakers like that aspect ratio that go beyond simple technical things like "it fits better in a cinema" 4:3 is obviously a unique choice for film. So I'm sure there is a very good reason he made it, and I wouldn't want to overrule that. Personally I wish it was shorter because I don't know when the hell I'm going to find 4 contiguous hours in my life to sit down and watch it. Zack Snyder version is FKN GREAT 👍 , I really enjoyed watching this EPIC film , it's also great in Blu-ray .also Josh Wheaton is a BUM . I forgot to mention this movie sounds spectacular if you have a good sound bar.

Sound bar? Personally I’ve listened to some good sound bars and spectacular doesn’t come to mind. A Dolby Atmos enabled speaker system 5.1.4 ch properly set up, does sound spectacular, and no offense to those who have living arrangements, such as renting an apt or cannot have home theatre sound levels that would otherwise break a rental lease. Been there done that. Having no one to bitch about concert/movie volume and subwoofer wall shaking bass is a blessing of being a homeowner. I now know and appreciate what I’ve been missing all those early formative years growing into a home theatre of today. Live long and prosper!

@@erikpeh694, late to the party, eh? Where you been? My new system, for me, was put together in 2015/16. So I’m enjoying it fully still. Surround sound with mono rears, remember those days? We’ve all come along way since then I started with the Pioneer VSX-D1S and the CLD 2080 Laser Disc player. Analog transitioned to digital over the many years and with this constantly evolving tech and a new home we thought it was time to upgrade. So what was in my budget, I started reading and researching what was trending. Dolby Atmos was, so that’s where I went. A local theater was showing films in that audio format, and it sounded so good I wanted it in my home. My Elite receiver has more channels then I use and that’s fine for now. So I’ll enjoy those Atmos enabled speakers as is.

This 4K disc is amazing I loved it and watched it again last weekend, it’s amazing the quality of the image is 100% better. It’s a must buy.

Love this film and 4k disc. Hopefully they release the black and white version on physical somewhere down the line. I would definitley pick it up as well.

His daughter committed suicide being the main reason he left the project on his own. Then Warner Brothers replaced him.

I went to Best Buy on Tuesday expecting to find a copy, but had no luck. None at my local Target or Walmart either. Ended up ordering the trilogy pack from Amazon. I’m anxiously awaiting its arrival!

Anyone else get the 4k with warped artwork? I have already had 2 replacements and on all the artwork is warped almost as if it was water damaged

Man This is a masterpiece.. everything happens in the movie has a reason nothing happens for no reason... Every character arc is just top of the world.. specially cyborg's acting I just cried seeing that single mom struggling... And the last scene of flash... Man that's the best Superhero movie scene of all time man that's just beyond the best 💙

I would have loved to see that Flash time reversal in 3D. As beautiful as it was, 3D would have definitely been a plus. Just to see existence reform in space with at black abyss background.

In the UK, we only got the 4K discs in the box - no bluray discs or digital versions. I also wish they had included the B&W version.

Honestly to avoid any scratches with the stacking of discs, take the the two Blu-ray Discs and put them in a different cd case and just take disc one of the 4k and put it were the Blu-rays was

You must either have a whole room dedicated to storing physical media or you don't but a lot of physical media, that you have the storage space to spare to double the space you're using for a movie.

Indeed, people made cracks about Snyder saying things like he chose it because superheroes are drawn more vertical, and people of course whipped out the 'lol all humans stand up and are vertical' Clearly Snyder is a huge comic book and graphic novel fan, he can't help but bring up stuff like Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns all the time, and many of his critics are just fans of comic book movies, not actual comics. If you examine visuals and framing, you WILL often seen that superheroes are drawn in comics NOT in wide rectangle, but more in squares...and sometimes even in super narrow, vertical rectangles...portrait style to just capture the heroism and mythic nature of the characters. It is a subtle thing, but going full 4:3 for a superhero movie changes the way shots are composed and framed and the results can be super effective for the intent. Snyder knew what his intent was and what his vision was, and 4:3 was the best ratio for it. Snyder also brings a bit of an anime-esque 'super fight' quality to his superhero fight scenes...and vintage anime like Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z were also created in a 4:3 aspect ratio...so even subliminally, seeing the League battle a being like Steppenwolf in 4:3 just feels evoking of the crazy type of fights you would get in DBZ or other vintage shonen anime.

Thought Zach had to withdraw from the 2017 version because of a family issue his daughter died, and he was replaced by Joss Whedon

I bought from Amazon UK, and it worth every £ I spent! It feels like an entirely different and much better movie!

Went to Walmart in Canada today and was surprised to see it. We weren't supposed to get it until the 14th. The Canadian version includes a Digital copy which is nice. I'm thinking possibly because we don't have HBO Max but I believe it is available on HBO Canada.

Gotten my 4k copy of ZS's Justice League and for some reason the scenes with Aquaman when he's underwater the movie would skip and get glitchy, played it on my PS5 and it always happens there. Couldn't find a scratch under the disk and nothing wrong with the console. Happened with anyone else or is it just a case of bad egg?

Hello, we’ll for me it makes the movie complete. With my DCU collection, all titles have slipcovers. I don’t like to have mismatch stuff, that’s lazy.

Checked out the Crave TV streaming version available in Canada and the quality was brutal. Amazing how one transfer is one of the worst, and the other transfer is one of the best.

Nice review. As an FYI, the film is pillar boxed (not letterboxed). I'm not being a snob, just thought you'd like to know for future videos. I also don't see any link for the disc. Thanks,

You’re using the wrong terminology. Black bars on top and bottom is called letterbox. Black bars on the sides is called pillarbox.

I caught that too, and also learned the proper terminology of the “pillar box”, all from reading the comments. Having watched Laser Discs mostly letterboxed, I got used to the black bars and when comparing pan & scan it’s quite startling the amount of cropping and how certain wide scenes make no visual sense when you watch the P & S version. The director’s ultimately make that decision on how they want their film work done, artistic license. I have a preference for seeing movies fill up the entire 65” of my screen, but accept not all will be that way, IMAX scenes are eye grabbing and going in and out of aspect ratios can be noticeable. It is what it is.

That aspect ratio image is misleading. They haven’t cut off the sides, they’ve extended the image up and down.

I got this the day it came out on 4k. It is true u don't even notice the black bars after a little while. I really loved the movie a lot

I haven’t watched my copy yet but it was strange that my copy ordered from Amazon Canada did in fact come with a digital copy where the U.S. store did not

It's not rare in France(maybe because we don't have hbo max), released the 9th june and the steelbook is still available, on the steelbook the 4 disk are separeted.

I'll be picking this up on black Friday

At 1 hour 15 minutes on disc one has anybody noticed like a flash of dead pixels which comes and goes as the camera is coming through the doorway on the right hand side? I’ve seen this behaviour several times throughout the movie and it’s driving me nuts. Not sure if it’s my TV or the disc itself?

I was really looking forward to the full screen version of this on the physical version.

Im extremely happy to have this movie let alone have it now on my shelf in 4K. However, it sucks they couldn't add the black and white version of the film on one of those 4 discs. And no digital code blows considering the $33 bucks I paid at Target.

Just turn the saturation down to minimum (or zero) on your TV. It should render the frame monochrome (black and white).

My Steelbook version is confirmed on its way to me. Can’t wait!!

the UK version I picked up in the summer separates the disks and they don't sit on top of each other FYI.

If they were to include the black & white version, I think they'd have needed twice the number of discs. Let's say you've got a movie on 4k Blu-ray with HDR10. Adding Dolby Vision to this disc as well doesn't take up that much space on the disc. It's just some additional information being added to what's already on the disc. However, I don't think the black & white version will be just some additional information. Instead it'll be a completely different rendition of the movie, taking up about the same amount of space as the coloured version. So, if they were to release the black & white version on disc as well, they'd need eight discs: - two discs for the coloured version on 4k Blu-ray - two discs for the black & white version on 4k Blu-ray - two discs for the coloured version on Blu-ray - two discs for the black & white version on Blu-ray Of course, the costs of this set would be higher, so then they'd have to release one set only containing the coloured version for the average consumer (for as far as you'd be able to call us physical media enthousiasts "average consumers"), plus an additional set containing both version for the real fans. 4k Blu-ray is already a niche market as it is, so with this black & white version, they'd be addressing a niche within a niche. They must have thought it's just not worth it.

Question: Speaking of the Aspect Ratio how come full screen films never had the ability to actually fit TV screens like DVD's? I know Full screen is kind of a thing of the past but ever since blu-rays debut I've noticed that full screens always looked like a box or had the black bars on the side for blu-ray and 4k.

Ok. I was just curious. It just always bugged me that DVD's always managed to achieve that but not blu-ray but I understand your point. I know the whole point of Widescreen is that you can see more space in frames. But it's still funny. As much technology that's around now I'm surprised they haven't figured out how to turn fullscreen movies into widescreen.

is it dolby vision on physical disk?

Picked this up today … I was surprised at the difference , like a whole new movie 🍿 switching the disc during the movie is a bummer … but what are you going to do .

Would Justice is Gray look the same as turning the colour setting off on your tv? If not, does anyone know how it is different? Just curious

It’s different but you may get close that way. The color grading for black and white would be different than just turning off color.

Would it be the same as the grey by turning the colour off on the monitor? I assume its "colour"? graded.

at 240+ minutes, I did not mind lifting my ass from the couch... :)

Got my 4K limited edition Steelbook here in Australia weeks and weeks ago. 👍🇦🇺

I've got the UK 4k steelbook edition, had it for a while now but since I haven't upgraded my blu ray player in a 4k uhd player I have no idea how the film looks and sound.

The special effects LITERALLY look better. The armor for Steppenwolf reflects far more hues. That's just the tip of what I noticed.

Sucks there is no digital copy for this but I did see some ads at some website showing it came with it.

the cases are all hit or miss. I have the steelbook and the slipcover version. MY version of the slipcover doesn't stack the discs. Theres a swing holder in the middle with a disc holder on each side. Steelbook has the layered discs where one holder is raised above the first disc so they don't touch.

I love physical media but was disappointed that it doesn't have a digital code..

Yes, vertical bars are pillarbox

I bought the trilogy 4K box because I can't get Man of Steel 4K with a slipcover super easily or BvS DOJ Ultimate Edition with a slip at all. The packaging is neat too.

An absolutely Blockbuster ,Epic, just Incredible movie! the snyder cut adds so much to an already Great movie...This is a gem and a masterpiece of super hero entertainment!

It’s gonna be interesting viewing it as 2 separate movies

My disc 2 49 minutes in to 56 minutes locked up skipped and would not play is any one else having this problem

I wish Disney would put out The Mandalorian and stuff on 4K.

Is Zack Snyder’s Justice League a 2k or 4k scan? I’m contemplating which format i should buy it on.

It's a native 4k DI.

Warner Brothers is so shady, even in their promotion of this Blu ray... On their official KZread they took the time to upload a trailer for this physical release but unlisted/delisted it so you can't find it unless it's shared with you. Those miserable fucks... Why do they want to tear a man down they already tore down?

Academy ratio was standard up until 1953, when CinemaScope premiered. I have HBO Max but still kind of bummed that a disc of the B&W version was not included.

His daughter committed suicide, he didn't get pushed away from his movie. So it got rushed and thrown together, then Zach came back after some time and this is what justice league was supposed to be.

Loved the movie. Love the quality..got this for $10 at best buy... but absolutely hate having to switch disk mid way through.. but its understandable..

I just got Zack snyders justice league steelbook in the mail. It is currently being sold at $100 what do I do? Kinda want to keep it but $100 is $100

I was hoping there would be a 3D Blu-Ray release of Zack Snyder's Justice League. I have the original release in 3D and I love the 3D effects. I wonder if 3D might be in the works? Have you you heard anything? Thanks

I have the steelbook and the discs are not stacked. I'm in the UK so don't know what availability is like in the US.

I don't like stack disc either that's why I bought the 4k 4 disc replacement case on Amazon now each disc has its own tray

What happened to the special B&W version that Zack wanted to release?

The discs aren’t stacked in the trilogy set. Glad I went with that version.

And you get Justice in Grey too right?

One thing I will always appreciate Joss Whedon for is Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Avengers and Avengers Age of Ultron.

The 4K trilogy set I got has much better disc holding, but the casing is pretty flimsy.
