Z06 Corvette vs 2JZ 240SX | Driver Battles

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The last time Peter Hong brought his Nissan 240SX S13 to Driver Battles he only just barely lost to a driver who put up the fastest time in Driver Battles history. Unfortunately for him, it’s going to take another huge effort if he’s going the win this time against Jake Rozelle and his Corvette Z06. Both cars have seen engine swaps, aero added and gobs of power, so if you like fast cars and quick times, this is the episode of Driving Line’s Driver Battles for you.
0:00 Intro at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway
1:11 Jake's C5 Z06 Build Breakdown
2:20 Peter's Nissan 240SX Build Breakdown
4:37 Driver Battles: Time Attack Rules and How To Compete
5:27 Time Attack Hot Lap
7:37 Impressions from the Track
9:52 Final Track Results
Let’s start with the cars, which have both been transformed from stock into time attack missiles. Peter Hong’s 1989 Nissan 240SX S13 may be the same base car as the last time he was on Driver Battles setting the second-best time in series history, but it’s now a much different, and faster, car than before. Most importantly, the old SR20 engine has been swapped out for a much more reliable 2JZ putting out 600hp. He has also added a Comp turbo 6062, 350Z transmission, AEM Infinity ECU, tons of aero, Wedsport TC105X wheels and 315/30ZR18 Nitto NT01 tires all around.
While Jake Rozelle had initially intended for his 2003 Corvette Z06 to be his daily driver and part-time track car, an 800hp Lingenfelter LS7 swap under the hood reveals that that plan went out the window a while ago. On top of the new engine, he has added a TR6060 close ratio transmission, Ignite E90 fuel, JRI shocks, Wilwood disc brakes, Forgeline wheels and 315/30ZR18 Nitto NT01 tires all around.
With both drivers sporting years of seat time behind the wheels of their respective cars, along with a ton of power, both are gunning for the best time ever set around Chuckwalla Valley Raceway. Not to give the end away, but we were equal parts shocked and impressed when we saw the times.

I’ve personally raced/battled with Jake a lot over the last 4-5yrs in several series. He is incredibly hard to beat. Not to mention He is a engineering stud, and a hell of a driver. The father and son build of this car is incredible. Sponsors if you’re watching this and need a driver give Jake a chance. If not hit me up please ;)

Well sorted Z06. 800 N/A hp is pretty wild. Car was struggling to put it all down. Seems like if it had a bit more tire in the rear and a little less power, it would be a couple seconds faster on that particular track. Love the sounds coming from that built LS.

Over 20 years difference between the engineering and just seconds difference in time. The Corvette may have passed the finish line first but the Nissan 240sx won all the respect of still showing out on new technology.

Yeah absolutely, that Corvette being 19 almost 20 years old is impressive, a lot can be done to it to make it even faster. That 20 year old Corvette he was driving is C5, they C6 was better, the C7 was better, and the C8 was even more better, that Corvette DNA is insanely impressive. I'd give up my S14 in a heartbeat for a C6 or above Vette.

I agree with you both, for being 20 years old the C5 Corvette is such a great value, got a 25 year old 1998 C5 for only $9k, their values are so good for the performance.

I can't argue with you both, you are right Maria and kyle, that purple Corvette being 20 years old is so impressive even for todays standard. I maybe a jdm fan and was rooting for the 240 but that was unfortunately a slaughter, I'd expect the s13 with 2jz to be closer to the old C5 but that was such a big difference, 3 second difference, at the short chuckawala track that's over 10 car lengths behind. Coming from the most diehard jdm guy I'll give props to Corvette.

I'll just say the Lingenfelter Eliminator V8 the corvette was running makes 645 ft lbs of torque at about 5600 rpm and 820+ horsepower at about 7300 rpm naturally aspirated. Id estimate it makes 380 ft lbs at 1000 rpm. It also uses a tr6060 from the C6 ZR1 with a 3.90 rear end. The eliminator is based on the LS7 but beefed up in every way and actually has a 36k mile 3-year warranty which is mindboggling that the warranty alone is 36k miles. I hope that helps a bit.

i know i'm surprised too, being a big jdm fan and driving a s14 was rooting for the jdm guy but not knowing much about american cars, especially a old c5 i didn't know they were capable of that. i've raced at chuckwalla and 3 second different is like 10 car lengths behind which is surprising for a 2jz. they both still killed it, running s14 with 430hp sr20 and advan a052 i only got 2:01, both those guys hitting sub 2 is great.

Professional Driver? When has Jake being paid to drive in a professional league? This is a sore looser comment because your fan car didn't win.
