@Ryan 9638 Agreed. c5 z06 in good condition can be had for 20k. 0-60 in 4 flat and all that cornering grip is nothing to scoff at for 20k. A few bolt ons and you are pushing 500 hp in a sub 3200 pound vehicle. Also modern tires, suspension, and brakes will make it corner even harder. That's one heck of a weapon for cheap.

This is what I want my Z06 to be like someday.

Ryan Matthews if I'm not mistaken formerly worked at Detroit Speed, very talented engineer and driver, I watched them compete at an OUSCI event about five years ago and he was crucial part of that team. Seems like humble guy but he's loaded with knowledge. If you're into corvettes and you want to go fast he's got to be one of the best at it. I don't own a Corvette but without a doubt I would love to build a similar one.

Yup, he used to work at Detroit Speed. He along with Danny Popp, knows his way around a Corvette.

That is such a cool car man. I don't know what it is, but last year or so just get lots of positive comments on my c5 whenever I take it out. I don't think people see too many c5z's on the road anymore so kind of treat when they see them nowadays especially with several newer generations out now flooding the roads. I believe these cars will def increase in desirability as they approach 25-30 years old and many of them retired. I don't intend to let mine collect dust in a garage or sit with mechanical issues at that age.

I got super lucky, got a 99 FRC with 4900 miles. Previous owner never drove it and then also never put oil in the car so he did what idiots do and he blew the motor. I bought the car for $800, less than 5k miles on the chassis and I got a fix roof coupe for $800!!! So I did the LQ9 swap, an iron block 6.0, she’s making right at 611 to the wheels on pump gas, naturally aspirated. I AutoX it just about every weekend, never have to leave 1st gear lol. But the look of mine and this one are fairly similar. Carbon canards everywhere, I have wider fenders because I have 315-35-17 square on 17x10.5. Just absolutely grip for days. I know the z06 had 325 in the back but honestly I can take an on ramp doing 144mph and not break loose with this setup. This is such a great platform for all kinds of motor sports. I know someone that drifts their c5 hatch, of course drag racing, road racing, autocross, they’re so overengineered in the best way possible.

C5 z06 with proper tires even on stock suspension is one of the best all around handling cars right out of the box even compared to more modern cars

I just bought a 2001 red Z06 and plan to do a lot of this to mine. I plan to also swap in a 454 LSX. I guess I will need to buy parts from After Dark Speed!

Maybe it has enough torque to not require downshifts at those speeds? Or the trans just shifts smoothly

590 to the wheel is max power, de-stroked motors can make that power if they are setup to rev higher. As per the owner, it revs to 8000 rpm.

To all the people saying he isn't downshifting, he's doing exactly that. I think too many of you are used to short-geared, high-revving engines with little torque. Corvettes with LS engines have a MASSIVE power band and tall gears (for example, the C5 Z06 T56 transmission's 4th gear ends around 142mph). Also, there's no point to downshift every gear sequentially coming into a corner. You're just going to wear the clutch out more and upset the car. You can just shift into the appropriate gear right before entering the corner, as this guy does. What i want to know is, what is this guy's tire setup?

I believe it was A052s, most likely 275/40/18, since the Gridlife limit was 285 Max

Why was it de-stroked? Does that have to do with regs?

Would be so it can rev as high as it does, an engine with a long stroke will put a lot of stress on the conrods at high rpm.

@@l6echo53 they're a mostly similar platform, so it really depends on your budget. A c6z comes stock with the LS7 and a dry sump oil system, but if you're good with putting all that in a c5z, you might save a little money. They will probably come out at about the same cost, so I'd just get a c6z

Cracks me up how he keeps saying it’s just a simple car. There’s a lot of $ in that C5 and not anywhere near a c5 z06. Great mods for the track alone. Add in a tuned ls7 and it’s ridiculous fast
