Z-Man "Naked" Chatterbait (December Bass Fishing)

Спорт

A "naked" chatterbait doesn't have a skirt but just uses the effectiveness of the unique blade design along with some sort of trailer to allure fish like crazy. Sometimes the fish just want a different look.
In this W-Central MO, mid-December 2023 video, a regular sized "original" Z-Man Chatterbait with a 4-inch MinnowZ trailer worked really well in and around dead and dying lily pad stems in 10 ft or less.
In a smaller configuration, a Z-Man Chatterbait Micro with a 3.75" StreakZ trailer worked really well in depths of 5-8 feet.
The StreakZ, without the "boot" tail of a swimbait, allowed the lure to sink quickly and the smaller profile triggered lots of strikes.
Rudie Tootie (Papillon) provides commentary and encouragement for anyone who wants to give Naked Chatterbaits a try!
Enjoy the show.

Thanks Bill. Yes, in deep, rocky Ozarks lakes Mr friend Sparky and I would be fishing in 30+ feet when the water was in the low 40s. This lake has a max depth of 25 ft or so and tons of lily pads on the shallower flats in the summer. It was fun to find bass cruising around those pad stems. Blessings to you and your family this Christmas. Don

Awesome Stuff Don. Your “NAKED” Chatterbait Modification is a great twist on an old Trick. So effective that Z-Man has capitalized on what they call a DeZelMinnowZ Chatterbait Called the Deziel Chatterbait made for salt water with Higher grade line Ties allowing to fish it in the grass using Braided line and also great in hopping it off the Bottom with fluorocarbon line Very versatile bait, indeed

Agree 100% Clarence. I stumbled on the "naked" configuration and it is one of my favorites for full sized and micro chatterbaits. I've mostly used MinnowZ and Slim SwimZ trailers but will test out some different Shadz style and other swimbaits styles this winter and spring. I'm a big fan of things that work this good! Blessings and Merry Christmas, Don

Thanks heaps, Sis. I've fished this time of the year before and it has been pretty good...but all bets are off this year with the danged drought. Basically, because of the drought, all the brush, stumps, logs and structure that would normally hold fish is sitting high and dry on the bank. I still got lucky and found some fish.....its hard not to...but things in this aquarium certainly aren't up to par this year. Ah, well. I'm going fishing anyway hahaha. RTR xxxoooo Don

Thanks a lot, Virgillio. Not so long ago, I decided to try these strange looking "chatterbaits" and it turned out to be a good decision. Both chatterbaits and spinnerbaits are subject to skirt issues, but I'm glad I kept the lures and, out of curiosity, used them with just a trailer of some sort. I'm a big fan of "naked" chatterbaits now! Have a wonderful week, a Merry Christmas and happy new year, Don

Chatterbait has a place in the tackle box. Pike and bass love them here in SE WI, but it's a "love/hate" type deal. If the bite is on, it's on. If not, put it away for the day!

Thanks so much for stopping in, FTG. Your assessment of chatterbaits is the same as mine. Great lures; sometimes the skirted version is wonderful and at other times, and places, the naked versions do the trick. Looking forward to seeing your adventures in WI. We sure don't have the variety of toothy critters here in W central Missouri. Merry Christmas! Don

Hello Don, I'm getting caught up with your site, having been viewing too many other less important subjects. I mean what's more interesting than fishing videos, huh? I just simply stand locked jaw wide open at all the fishing paraphernalia available today. Back in the early 50's, yes, last century, I recall visiting the local hardware store with my ten cent a week allowance and having maybe three shelves of fishing items to choose from. Two weeks allowance and I could by a daredevil. Today those three shelves have grown to 13 aisles and i've yet to catch a fish that said I was using cheap equipment. lol!! All kidding aside, I like those chatter baits too and fish them in all types of water, weedy, not weedy, rocky, sandy bottom and I like them better without skirts too. You know sometimes less is better and those simple designs work. I'm convinced it's the flash more than anything that entices fish to give chase. Enjoying your videos and hope you have a joyous holiday season too.

Thank you, Kenny and I enjoyed your comments. I sense that we both grew up barely rubbing two nickles together and enjoy the simpler side of fishing even though there are lots and lots of shiny things these days. I'm typically late to the party when it comes to jumping on the latest bandwagon of stuff that arrives every year. However, many times plain old curiosity kicks in and often the discovery is a lot of fun.... such as finesse lures are micro finesse lures - and chatterbaits. I don't waste time making vids of things that don't work (in the mud puddles I fish in W central Missouri). One last comment on chatterbaits. I think the throbbing vibration of the blade of those things is the key lots of times. Fun lures! Best wishes and I'm looking forward to ice out next week! Don

Yes, I totally agree on the chatter noise being an attractant. I've bounced around with 'the latest gimmics,' often discovering they are just that, gimmics. It's just hard to beat a worm or minnow and boy am I grateful for the z-man elastic baits and they work. I like those 'mud puddles' you frequent. Some of those old mining pits are goldmines, sorry, fish aquariums, as you have videoed. I love 'em. Minnesota was a fisher-persons dream world with lakes aplenty. Ohio, were it not for reservoirs, there are no natural lakes. I just enjoy being on the water and if a fish takes the bait, wahoo! God Bless and good health. Kenny @@Winkiedoodles
