Ah yes, my second professional gig ever, at age 22, on national television, in Conan's first season, on the first night that Letterman came back to his old set as the night's guest. If you look closely you can see me holding my breath for the entire bass solo. I have never been more terrified and was grateful that somehow I didn't totally faceplant! ;-) Conan was very kind. And very tall.

I'm confused though. Joe Travers is credited for drums... but this dude has All Kinds of HAIR! 😘
Fortunate to have been in attendance. Joe Travers is a monster. Thanks for sharing. "Now you have a drummer!" - Frank Zappa

How fortunate indeed! Joe is a monster. Hell of a drummer. Z was a monster. I really loved this band. Audience recordings prove how incredible they were. Thanks for your comments.
I was on the crew for that tour. Remember that night well. Conan very accommodating and treat the band like royalty.

Zappa Kids…? Dweezil is 52, A lot has happened between Dweezil and Ahmet since 1994. Frankly, my opinion Ahmet is a talentless ass hole.Bryan Beller plays with Guthrie Govan and The Aristocratic’s

@@anthonyfesta7010 Um yes, "kids". No matter their age they are the "kids" of FZ. Your inane "opinion" of Ahmet is kinda immediately *blown* out of the water by that 5 minute clip of him singing in time, in key and doing some quirky dancing. Aside from writing the lyrics. All probably more than you have accomplished in your entire life. The internet is vast: go find something you enjoy. Share "opinions" less.

@@tenthletter2678 Dweezil is a chip off the ole block Ahmet not so much.
I saw Dweezil a few years ago and he mentioned that he was thinking of touring behind HIS music. What do we need to do for that to happen? Thanks for the video!
Reminds me of Living Color. Maybe it was the same year.

Interesting observation. At that time, I was working with a guitar player who was obsessed with this band. He said the same thing as he knew I was a huge Living Colour fan.

I actually own the guitar that DZ is playing here. The Kramer/Performance faux-Cow skin guitar.

did you know that it was made with a twin? Dweezil gifted me the twin (purple sparkle- neck trough/24fret) back in 1989. Under the cowhide is the Chartreuse sparkle & I'm guessing you already know that. 2 amazing Kramers designed by Dweezil & built by Kramer in their heyday. Moo
Great sound! And so much hair!!
I love this chorus and his way to sing
O M G O M G is this awesome!!! I have the album THANK YOU KZread algo reminding me THAT I FREAKING HAVE IT RIGHT HERE!!! OMG soooo awesome!
I saw this band on a couple of consecutive nights in the SF Bay Area. Josh Freese was on drums and Scott Thunes on bass. Ahmet had hair… They were a great live band. Moon Zappa was running about in the audience. Dweezil was Dweezil.

@wowwhywow
Жыл бұрын
@@Lagzatzappateers haha... I'm surprised you know about that... well there are prpblems. First... it is on regular cassette tape, and I have no means of transferring it, and now... 30 years later, I don't even know if that cassette will play without being esaten by whatever deck I'd put it in. It would most likely need to be baked. The GOOD news is... that a video version of about 3/4 of the interview was sent to FRANK ZAPPA and when they baked all of Zappa's tapes a few years agoi... Alkex Winter told me that my tape was among the tapes preserved. BUT... that's not where the complications end... the radio station did not let me do the interview live, because they were afraid Zappa would say something offensive and they wanted to control the tape first. As a result, Iwas forced to record it on the world's shittiest message machine, wherein... you can hear MY VOICE REAL LOUD...and Frank's voice reaaaaaal quiet. It sucked and although the interview was great and Zappa was a very nice guy... the interview is not very listenable. However, The ZFT has it. Actually... now that I think of it... the guy who baked the tapes is Joe Travers. Maybe you should ask HIM.
@Lagzatzappateers

Thanks for the background on the interview. Nice to know the back story. Reach out to Joe, perhaps he can help, or at least provide direction. I do have a copy of the video. My copy is listed as 18 mins. I probably obtained it around the mid 90's. Have you given any thought to uploading it here?
@wowwhywow

@@Lagzatzappateers I don't have a file of it... but if you pass it to me... I'll upload it. Only 18 minutes... thought it was more... that's less than half the interview...oh well... It has most of the best moments.

I wish Ahmet and Dweezil could have continued to perform together. Maybe they wouldn't been having so much disagreement about who can perform what under which name now.

I prefer Dweezil doing what he's doing playing his Dad's music.
Lot of meat on this track. These guys had much to offer. Shame they couldn't coordinate personally. x
To think that now, Ahmet is in control of the Zappa estate and drummer Joe Travers is in charge of the Zappa vault while Dweezil is SHUT OUT is bull sh*t. Also, I wore a TEAM DWEEZIL tshirt when I saw Joe Travers lead a Zappa Band show at Baked Potato on Ventura Blvd. And after the show Joe refused to take a picture with me because of my shirt. So stupid. Joe went from being a super tight friend of Dweezil to shutting him out of his life while overtaking Dweezil's dad's vault? Unbelievable. TEAM DWEEZIL all the way.

What's even more "so stupid" is taking a "side" in something you know very, very little about. By the way, Joe has been workin' outta The Vault way, way before the "shutting out" happened.
